Yeah, I hate all of this "you're playing the game wrong, you need to get the multiplyer" and all that crap. Man, I was playing shooters before most of those people were even born. It's all about enjoying the experiance. If thats making it through a level or getting the top score then that's all that matters as long as you enjoy the game.

I really love how many shooters there are on steam, especially once I invested in a nice monitor that can rotate. I kind of go back and forth on whether I like vertical or horizontal more but I will say there is something satisfying about playing a vertical shooter with an arcade stick and a booming sound setup.

Dimahoo name comes from actual pronunciation "Dai Mahou" (大魔法, "Great Magic"). Unlike the last two games in its series that use Yamaha soundchip, Dimahoo uses Capcom's Q-Sound. Air Gallet (or Air Garret) was voiced by Lenne Hardt and Jeff Manning. Gazelle is one of the Toaplan splinter companies. Composer of Batsugun also did Air Gallet soundtrack. Kaneko did some scrolling shooters other than Cyvern. They did Heavy Unit, Air Buster/Aero Blasters, Bakuretsu Breaker, Sengeki Striker (with Warashi, full of former Athena employees) and partnered with Naxat Soft, Nexzr and its Summer Carnival '93 version. Composer of Nexzr also did Cyvern soundtrack. And Cyvern seems comparable to Namco's Dragon Spirit and Dragon Saber, at least for being a vertical scrolling shooter with a flying dragon to control. Hotdog Storm was composed by the same duo that composed Battle Mania Daijinjou, Time Dominator 1st and the PS1/Saturn game FIST. Marble's only other game they developed other than Hotdog Storm is The Match Golf for PS1. Armed Formation F is possibly part of the Moon Cresta/Terra Cresta series. Arblaster was composed by Akira Sato, who composed various games for Cocktail Soft, Seibu Kaihatsu, and was involved with Yoshi's Cookie soundtrack.

Wow I'd never heard of the majority of these awesome (well, mostly) vertical shooters. Great episode, as always. Air Gallet seems especially fun. I've only played it for five minutes so far, by I concur about it being one giant spoof wrapped around the core of a very enjoyable shooter. There's some subtle and not so subtle movie and pop culture references sprinkled in among proceedings. I especially like the Raiden-esque happenings in the first level! By the way, this is my first comment on any of your videos and I have to say I'm very impressed with your show. You have a genuine understanding and passion and this really comes through in the way you construct your episodes. Please keep putting these things out there as there are obviously quite a lot of us interested in the history of gaming culture and it's nice to hear about even the worst of the most obscure games along with the classics.

find a plane shooting game Description: vertical screen, dropping bombs is a large circle assembled from many small circles, when Player 2 drops bombs together, they combine to form a large electric circle. Regarding ammo, there is one that when upgrading the last bullet will shoot out like a cloud, but around that cloud there is a blue line that bends around like dragons hugging that pillar and chasing the enemy. The bullets fired are exactly the same as the Dogyuun game, but the graphics are better

I have a theory about Explosive Breaker. Kaneko, who developed two Star Soldier titles, wanted to make an arcade version, and Hudson denied it. Kaneko then put their own ideas and weirdness into it and released this. I mean, there are some things that immediately remind me of the PC Engine titles. Ship & enemy designs, the iconic spread shot of one of the ships, plus another one shooting the big blue balls sure looked similar to the green ring shot from Final Soldier...

  • @RetroCore

Retro Core Yeah, at it's core, its exactly how a classic Shmup should play. I think the only home version of it that I cared for was the NES port, which while not quite as good as the arcade, was a lot better than the computer ports.

The only other game Marble developed after Hotdog Storm was... The Match Golf for PS1? And somehow, that game was re-released on the PlayStation Network thanks to Starfish-SD. As far as Toaplan offshoots are concerned, some of Gazelle's employees did join Cave after the company's bankruptcy, but Takumi Corporation wasn't heard from after Giga Wing Generations. The same thing happened when Raizing/8ing shifted their focus on console games after the Raizing division folded in 2000, hence Shinobu Yagawa later working at Cave for Ibara, Pink Sweets and Muchi Muchi Pork.

Help me guys, i can't find a one game: Airplane can be played and double. The specific thing in this game was that it could catch two types of shield. -the unit, 2 balls stand in front of your plane and they keep you from the enemy shootings. - the second, again, 2 balls, but circling around your plane by shooting the enemy shootings according to which one is closest to striking you. One ball, if it keeps you on the right, the other on the left. If one is in front of your plane, the other is in the back. So they moved in parallel one another. Another, as a hint, I can not think. I tried searching for "Raiden Galaxy", "Air Craft" and others, but without success!

+Johnny Bond that will be because you are watching the video in a window. Make it full screen to get the real image. The scan lines are actually very narrow. Pin sharp in fact. Also, best to watch in 720 at 60fps.

AbraLester is just a half-baked 1942 (Jordan did not bother to polish it up for release, it would be acceptable if it were lost and not for a public release, I get that) and I do think 1942 is a boring game to play mainly because of its age. Generally arcade shoot ‘em ups are good, I too like shmups myself. And we get that no matter the platform, we’ll get a stinker or two on it. I do think most 70s and 80s arcade games are boring in my opinion (I still enjoy some like Pac-Man mind you) mainly because not much to do and they reek of age.

+Retro Core I have a ,maybe, strange request for a future episode. I would LOVE to see a video about videogames that are good for someone how would like to learn to read Japanese language (like I'm trying to doing). I mean a list of videogames with little and simple text so one can start to learn some kanji and maybe some tips and adviceses from a guy like you that know how hard could be the road to learn Japanese. I know it's a stupid idea... but i tought that videogames could be a good motivation to learn a new language. For example i would realy love to be able to play a games like Nanatsu Kaze no Shima Monogatari or Beyond Oasis...I know that the latter is avaible in English but, god, USA and PAL Saturn games are very pricy. Right now the barrier language is a majore issue. If you don't like this idea please scrap it. Thanks anyway for your awesome videos!

Ciapallus that is a very good idea but one that would need a lot of research. However I can recommend one game which is EMIT on the SFC or Saturn. It's an English education game done as an RPG. It's really good and can be used as a way to learn Japanese too. There's also a follow up only on the Saturn called Dark Hunter. Both games come in 3 volumes from what I remember. Both of them are on my site in the Saturn section - www.segagagadomain.com

Sonic Ace 24 Not in Japanese it doesn't. Japanese people always pronounce 'ai' as 'eye'...like Taito being Tyto not Tayto. It's meant to mean lightning...it sounds better in that context...the pronunciation has an onomatopoeic resonance that way.

  • @stoicvampirepig6063

@@RetroCore man, first sorry for my bad english. MK is another style, different of games like SF, KOF, etc...but the game has great quality in gameplay, graphics and sound...another example is Killer Instinct. Maybe MK and KI are not for everyone but the quality is high. But Arbalester has no quality. The game feels like "broken"? Like a demo...and the graphics and sound sucks.
