It’s such a GREAT feeling when you find out the name of that “one game I used to play where….” isn’t it? I remember finding crude buster arcade where they had either the home version or USA version which was called two crude dudes. When I played crude buster on mame I was like “this is it! That’s the game!” That mame helped me out a LOT though because I did the same thing for “the main event” by Konami and “champion wrestler” by taito. Nothing beats that nostalgic joy!

Great selection, I was just making a favorites list of arcade shmups on MAME and was looking for things I maybe hadn't played before. Thanks.

A good collection, Thunder Dragon 2 and Vasara 1&2 are also great. My personal favourites are probably the first shooters i played which got me hooked on the genre. In the arcade i loved Starforce and Terra Cresta, not the best by any stretch but they have a place in my shoot em up heart.

I loved the Argallet cinematic intro really well-made and animated

For me "Xevious" was not just the inventor of this genre, it is still one of the best vertical shooters.

Dang, they should port alot of these!!! I play them in Retroarch through Launchbox on my PC, MAME on PS3, Pi3, Xbox 360 and FB Alpha has a great arcade emulator on Switch. I do enjoy when they proper port them over though. The CAVE series on 360 is def the best but tons in here I've never seen like that Esp Rade and Dragon Saber. Great vid man! I dont like mobile gaming but after playing tons of shmups its hard to ignore all the shmups on mobile. I'm putting a compilation together atm.

Shame Fire Shark is not on the list. By far one of the last absolute gems made by Toaplan.

8:13 What an awesome opening !!! I wonder if they did it to funny, by tricking some to believe the big jet was the one the player controls. Imagine being super hyped and right when you expect gameplay to start, that little arm extends out the side where a much more normal sized plane is let out. 😂

@TheRadik There is one shoot 'em up I'm trying to remember. I don't know the name of it, but I do remember it having a snake-like enemy as the first boss and that one of the weapons is all the spotted balls that scatter all over the screen. The boss music is in A minor. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

I remember those games which I played in my childhood but there is still one that I'm so freaking want to remember and play it again I forgot the name of it and I'm just disappointed that it's not on the list. If I recall it I think it's like strikers but the bosses is big af and before you fight the boss you have to destroy the parts of the boss cuz its big af and kinda like giga wings which has a percentage of boss percentage destroyed. Anyway, Pls make another vid like this and hopefully you found the game I was looking for. ty

Can anyone tell me the name of the vertical scroller that you got stars when blowing up the enemy. Then you could choose what type of upgrade you wanted depending on the stars. Final boss was like a giant brain inside a glass dome?

In the game play which I remember there is ship as player and after playing games for some interval ,ship is able to upgrade and its fire rate and bullets.where on earth i find this game.

aero fighters special is an arcade game, so you'll need to use MAME to play it. The mame machine name is AEROFGTS.

Im looking for this one specific shoot em up where it takes place in space and has 2 player. 1 Red Rocket Ship and the other Blue, the Red carried a Bomb with a huge explosion that covers 1/4 area of the screen and the Blue carried multiple Missile bombs that lights up the whole screen blowing off like Fireworks. Also one of its power ups was a Purple Lightning blast that stays locked on its target as long as you hold fire. It was a game I played in a laundromat but never actually finished.

I need help...i am looking for the name of a game which the concept almost same as Battle Bakraid year 1989 game...as far i remember nobody can beat Stage 7 where this level the evil master is a machine which create a big yellow big buble which was hard to defeat..the yellow big buble will easy to trap your spaceship if you careless..any clue anyone? There was a vertical shooter game, where you played as a spaceship. You had to defeat enemy's or survive til you got to the boss of the stage. You had a health bar and a energy bar (for basic attacks) You could replenish those by collecting a item from destroyed ships. At the end of a stage you could buy different base Attack weapons and special attacks like nukes etc. Sadly Ive completely forgotten how the game is called. I stil remember that the game used gangster paradise instrumental as its main theme song when you would play the game. Does anybody remember the name of the game that I described?

I used to play an arcade game in the 80’s that you could hide behind barricades at the bottom, while uniformly arranged invaders would rain their shit down from above and you had three lives, anybody?

I am looking for a game called "copper and silver" arcade game. In this game you pick up different colour men. It also had stages and you blast through a gate to go through. There was also no sequence to which of stages. But you always had 2 options

MrERLoner there is another game similar to heavy barrel. It’s not POW but I think it’s another vertical shooter. Two Rambos I think with guns/cannons.

I remember playing a demo of an awesome game of this genre from my childhood, does anyone have any idea what it was? It was on PC on either 95 or 98. I'm pretty sure you are a sci-fi style ship that shoots both ground and air targets. You can upgrade your weapon by picking up another or swap it out for a new one, I remember one of them being a bubble type that covered a large area. Anyone know the name? I'd hugely appreciate it. I didn't see it here sadly.

Have same question here. I played pc game shmup from about year 95 but forgot the name. It was side scrolling submerged underwater ship with polygon graphic, you can equip various weapon into maybe five slot on the ship and you can upgrade it to. If anyone know please tell me

it wasnt Kingdom Grandprix by any chance, also known as Shippu Mahou Daisakusen. It was a Raizing game i believe and released in arcade and on sega saturn.

Buenas!!! A ver si me pueden ayudar. Llevo mucho tiempo buscando un matamarcianos, de scroll vertical. Lo vi de peque en una máquina recreativa. Las fases son los nombres del Sistema Solar y el jefe final de la primera fase es un gran ojo (que aparece en la parte superior de la pantalla), el cual se cubre con dos garras que le salen de los laterales. Creo que es de finales de los 80, principios de los 90. Muchísimas gracias.

Help me guys, i can't find a one game: Airplane can be played and double. The specific thing in this game was that it could catch two types of shield. -the unit, 2 balls stand in front of your plane and they keep you from the enemy shootings. - the second, again, 2 balls, but circling around your plane by shooting the enemy shootings according to which one is closest to striking you. One ball, if it keeps you on the right, the other on the left. If one is in front of your plane, the other is in the back. So they moved in parallel one another. Another, as a hint, I can not think. I tried searching for "Raiden Galaxy", "Air Craft" and others, but without success!
