The Super Nintendo was the very first console I started seriously collecting for many moons ago so was very happy to see this video pop up this evening :- ) . Great video as always ( thank you 👍 ) and some fantastic games including a few of my favourite games - Final Fight Tough, Macross Scrambled, Umihara, Pocky & Rocky, Turtles etc. Love Natsume they really did make some awesome Snes and Nes games. Gundamn Endless Battle is a terrific one-on-one fighting game for the system and surprised me also....it really does squeeze a lot out of the snes.

+wrena79 I'd like to say the SFC was the first console I started collecting for but that was actually the Mega Drive then the Saturn. I did have quite a few SFC games but I was never a collector until 2010. Have always loved the console though.

I imported quite a lot of Super Famicom games back in the day for my SNES. Always loved the VHS style boxes. What was great about it was that if you didn't want to buy the plastic Super Famicom to SNES converter, all you had to do was snip off two pieces of plastic where the cartridge slot was and Japanese imports would fit into U.S. consoles no problem plus they were fully compatible. It wasn't a mod that made your SNES look ugly too as it was on the inside of the flap. Just a quick 20 second neutering and your good to go!

WOW that was the greatest retrocore since the original retrocores (b4 youtube). thanks so much!!! YOU HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THE GREATEST ENGLISH SPEAKING AUTHORITY ON IMPORT GAMES. well, import games from the most important times of gaming(16-32bit) :-). my only info on imports back in the day was gamefan magazine, you should have been part of the staff. as in all your old retrocores, you have shown me games I have to play, that I didn't know about.Thank you again Yakumo.

+neozeed1984 WOW, you must have really liked this episode :) I'd love to make all my shows to this quality or higher but the truth is that you'd only get one show per month if that was the case. Still, I will try. The next show will be arcade stuff but following that we'll have a Mega Drive special much in the same light as the SFC special you just saw but with more improvements.

The Super Famicom and Super Nintendo are both of my favorite consoles. I have Final Fight 3, but I also want the Super Famicom version. It's even higher on Ebay than the US version. I would also like to get Hammerin Harry. I own a boxed Super Famicom, and also a loose Super Famicom Jr. I am an import junkie of sorts, lol.

Super Nintendo is my favorite Nintendo console and my favorite Nintendo system is 3DS. I'm glad I have PAL SNES. Chrono Trigger is my favorite SNES game, even though I have its DS version. My favorite developers of SNES games are Natsume and Square because they took full advantage of the system. Konami, Enix, Nintendo themselves, Capcom and others did from good to great job with the 16-bit console. Sadly Sunsoft wasn't as impressive with SNES as they were with NES and Mega Drive. Just like any other system, even SNES has bad games. For me, Capcom SNES music is hit, guilty pleassure or miss. I really like Nintendo's decision having eight graphics modes which allowed more variety over other 16-bit systems. Nintendo requested Ken Kutaragi to design a new sound hardware that differs a lot from the competing consoles. Of course, main CPU was the slowest of 16-bit consoles. Comparing processing powers of SNES and MD is just like comparing Apple IIGS and Amiga. Both SFC and PAL designs look better than the North American one. I have heard rumors about Japanese games playing their video games on the floor, that could explain the shorter cable. At least the Western controller cables were made longer. Most of the plastic on my SNES got light yellowed, but the area where Super Nintendo logo is located, controller port and darker grey areas remained didn't change. I have noticed only one cartridge that discolored and I thought somebody poured coffee on it. I'm definitely want to get Turtles in Time, other Konami games, Pocky and Rocky/Kiki KaiKai, The Ninja Warriors and Wild Guns for my SNES collection. I find Japanese folklore fascinating and I would love to play as a tanuki, though I'm more of a fox person. The Ninja Warriors pretty much feels like a Neo Geo game. Sadly I can't get Gundam Wing: Endless Duel, but I will get Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Fighting Edition, as both of them share same engine, feel, some codes and most of the crew. I kinda prefer Gundam Wing: Endless Duel.

Great episode. Fantastic selection of games, for the most part heavy wallet-hitters too, for the Super Famicom collectors out there. This is a console I pretty much entirely missed back in the days, and - even as a collector myself - I feel like it's a bit too late to jump in nowadays, mainly due to the average price the better games have reached so far. That said, it's always a pleasure to watch brilliant retrospectives like this one. ^_-

+Galdelico cheers man. You are so right about the games being expensive. There's quite a few other big price games I could have added but even the average games are not that cheap. Seems only the really crappy games are below 3000 yen these days.

Awesome show, Great selection of games to show the power of the snes, TMNT IV: Turtles in time is how it's called in the american version, I remenber my dad bought it in our trip to miami in 94, it was the best game to play with a friend, and also one of the games that have the best levels in design and variety, Definelly a super nintendo classic!. Also I was pretty amazed with the game of the girl with the hook, very good physics! Another thing, is in the Valken game; can the player get out of the mech?? I remenber I played many years ago one mech side scrolling game that you could get out of the mech and get into another and I've been looking for it, but don't know the name..

Yeah, TMNT IN TIME is an excellent game. I've played that game to death and still enjoy it even now 20 odd years later. The mech game you are thinking about could he Metal Warriors. It was by Lucas Arts however Konami distributed the game in the West and sold it as the sequel to Cybernator (Assault Suit Valken) as they also distributed that in the West. The truth is that Metal Warrior has nothing to do with Cybernator. It is a great game though.

My love for the SNES/SFC is strong, so many great games, don't care about the whole slow CPU thing. I see you've showed off Magical Pop N, a game that shares a similar fate to Doremi Fantasy, both are too expensive to buy, sadly both are damned great. Doremi did get a western Wii VC release, but sadly Magical Pop N didn't. MP also shares a sad story, the main character was voiced by a Japanese adult film actress (that would've never flown here in the west at that time) who died a tragic death, she was sick, and didn't know of it and passed away years ago.

Retro Core Back in the day, my Sega owning friends were like "Yeah, well Hyperstone Heist is just as good!" No. Not even close. But they felt the same way about Sunset Riders, so...there's not helping some people.

I'm a big Mega Drive fan but even I think Sunset Riders and Hyperstone Heist are poor second thought efforts from Konami compared to the SFC games. Saying that, Rocket Knight Adventure on the Mega Drive is much better than Sparkster in the SFC.

Retro Core Then you have the "This is legitimately as good as what the SNES got!" experiences, like Contra: Hard Corps and Castlevania: Bloodlines.

contra on the Mega Drive isn't as good as Contra 3 however Bloodlines is a very good Castlevania game. Better than 4? No, not really but still a good game.

Perhaps the best classic console ever; it successfully covered every game genre at the time and lasted over 10 years in retail, with the last game being Metal Slader Glory, a remake of a late-Famicom game. Even the weakest-supported genres the console had still had diamonds in the rough; however, a strange thing I noticed is there are no Bubble Bobble-style games on the console, whereas the Mega Drive had Rainbow Islands, Wani Wani World, and Snow Bros, with the PC-Engine having Don Doko Don, Parasol Stars, and Rainbow Islands.

Japanese packaging and design always seems to make western stuff look stiff and dull. I always enjoyed picking up Japanese versions of games and consoles for the manuals, artwork and full colour boxes which just added to the whole package. It's probably coming from that era is why I find the current western style of photorealistic moody gritty misery leaves me really cold.

Cool. Where do you source your retro, they seem to be in good condition (if they're not they seem to be complete or at least still have original cases). Used retro games and units here usually are loose and don't have boxes or just have generic cases (loose). I wish consoles today would come in cartridges again even if it's thin like the HuCards (as long as the cartridge art is big enough), instead of discs which are easily scratched or might have disc rot in the future. It's good the handhelds are still using cartridges but the cartridge art is too small. There's someone selling I.II and V for the Super Famicom, here. I hope they're original. Still contemplating if I should get a PS3 (PS2 compatible with 2 PS2 controllers, with 14 orig PS3, cool games but none of which I really like) for $146 or a Super Famicom (complete w/ 3 games- not sure if they are original) for $US58? Thank you. God bless, Proverbs 31 Thank you.

The SFC is connected to a Framemister Xrgb mini via RGB. Then from the Framemeister to the TV (or capture card when making this video) via HDMI. My TV was a top end Toshiba Regza. Far higher spec than any Toshiba sold outside Japan. I believe Toshiba Tvs outside Japan are actually other models with a Toshiba logo on them due to everyone wanting everything for free. They couldn't compete in the West making their own higher end models so these are only for Japan.

Hi, I think it would be cool for you to make a video on how different Snes and SFC games could be not just in terms of censoreship but also in terms of quality. Rendering Ranger R2(no slowdowns, lots of sprites on screen, impressive graphics, good audio), Jikkyou pro wrestling 96 max voltage(tremendous graphics, comments!!!, in every way it's way much better than any other american wrestling game), J league 96 dream soccer(impressive graphics and animations, good gameplay, again, way much better than any other football smash hit) are good examples. I think the Snes\SFC was never taken to its limits but i feel that in many cases SFC has better or more complete games than the Snes in terms of animations, audio(like constant comments which were very rare sometimes in cartridges), etc. What do you think about this?. Hasta la vista.
