RESURRECTED: How Duncan Robinson IS SAVING His Career

Спорт

Support by buying my NBA T-Shirts: heatcheck.info/
Duncan Robinson went from averaging a career low 6 and a half points per game last season to a career high 14 and a half per game at the moment.
He completely resurrected his career and went from the most overpaid player in the league, to nearly untouchable for trade- according to some Heat fans. So what changed?
Well, a lot. And it’s more than his 3 point shooting.
This was Duncan Robinson in the past few seasons on the rare occasion when he drove the ball to the basket.
Whether it was a shaky handle or indecisiveness on the finish, it always looked bad.
Now compare all of that awkwardness, to this crazy move that he pulled off on Victor Wembanyama. It’s a night and day difference. And he finished the game with 26 points.
This season, not only does he go to the basket much more often, but he looks comfortable as well. Just look at the numbers.
This season he’s taking 32% of his shots in the paint. More than double compared to last season, and there’s not even a debate when looking at the years past.
And he’s finishing these slightly above league average, further solidifying the inside game as a new weapon in his arsenal.
In fact, despite being known solely as a 3 point specialist, so far this year Duncan has made 35 threes and 27 shots inside the paint. That’s a 56 to 44% split. That’s incredibly well balanced for a guy that everyone knew he couldn't put the ball on the floor and wouldn’t do anything else besides shooting.
And speaking of that, Robinson is back to being a dangerous shooter. 38.9% from downtown is still below the 2 seasons where he was an elite sniper, but he’s doing a bit more as well than just the regular catch and shoot.
Just look at what he did to Jeremy Sochan here. The pump fake that Sochan really bites on and then we got the step back and a second pump fake that literally sent Jeremy flying out of bounds. You see how much more comfortable Duncan looks with the ball in his hands.
He even got Wembanyama with it as well as he calmly relocates fires away and knocks it down.
The rushing and hesitation are out of his system, and Robinson looks great on the floor with each and every game.
After the 26 against the Spurs, he dropped another 26 last night as well on 6 for 10 from long range.
And in the last 7 games, he’s averaging 17.1 points per game on 41.1% from downtown.
Now that’s what I call an increase in confidence.
And it directly correlates with the Heat record as well.
Miami is the hottest team in the league at the moment riding a 7 game winning streak.
BTW here’s a fun bit of trivia for you guys. The last time that the Heat had a 7 game winning streak it was with this roster believe it or not.
All in all it seems like Duncan Robinson is back, and with his help, Miami will once again be a very dangerous team come playoff time.
That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.

Wow, good for him! I love it when players expand their game and come back a different player from the offseason. It doesn't happen much, but much respect to the players that do, even if it's just slight adjustments. It shows that they really care and are willing to make changes to improve rather than just doubling down on what they're good at.

Yup, love to see it too. Not only that, but usually players start with the inside game and then expand their shooting, so it's fresh seeing to see him buck the trend and do it the other way around. I remember him having some key layups in the playoffs last year too that really surprised the defense.

His confidence and his game rapidity improved since the playoffs last year. Also with Strus leaving for the Cavs, it opens up Duncan’s minutes a whole lot more, last year it was mostly Strus, now it’s Duncan. If Duncan can improve his dribbling and creates shots, that’ll be even worse for defenders, he’ll be another version of Tyler Herro but he’ll be Klay Thompson since their game is similar except Klay can create shots.

  • @edbrondial7440
    @edbrondial74407 ай бұрын

The drives opens up the defense for Duncan. And you really see his work on his handles, he's more in control. The defense can no longer just defend him on the outside, he drives, pass or shoot right away and does the fakes. A lot of teams will now take those variables to adjust. It makes his game similar to Tyler Herro.

I said this last year to my friends, even though Duncan had a career low last season, we can still see that he's trying to add the finishing / slashing to his game. And when he had a hard time incorporating it last season which affected his shooting as well. But this season it looks like he improved a lot and we can see as well that it affects his shooting confidence as well.

Not many can shoot forever at high percentage point, even the greatest shooters Steph have had bad shooting periods. This is where having a diverse game comes in to cover for the poor shooting, same as dlo before shooting well the past 2-3 games, he didn’t start off the season shooting well (at some point was 26-29% from the 3 I think). He takes a few tries per game to test his feel, and he drives to the basket or set up his teammates when he knows his shots ain’t falling.

Miami is the best place for fringe players to develop their game and turn into solid players

He is in the right place and in the right time. All he has to do is sink his shots

My analysis of the situation with Robinson and the Heat is Robinson went nowhere. He stayed in great shape and remained a great shooter. Behind the scenes either Butler or the coach decided they didn't like Robinson. Maybe there was an incident, who knows. And who cares who's fault it was (but generally, I'd side with the person who doesn't hold the leverage)... When Miami went to the finals last year they were short on manpower. They had to play Robinson. And he played well. They couldn't stick him in for 10-15 minutes and only pass it to him in last second situations where he was already guarded. I mean who would do that? And yet its been done before and is the most likely answer to what happened over the last 2-3 years. Anyways, cut to this last off season where they lost Max Strux and Gabe Vincent while only picking up their rook. Robinson being an integral part of what they do is the only choice they have that doesn't throw Miami's season in the lottery toilet bowl. And Robinson often looks like the best player on the team. He doesn't play defense like an undrafted player, he doesn't cut like an undrafted player, but he does pass and shoot like a top tier nba player (By the way, when announcers said Robinson's defense wasn't good enough, tell me why he had a positive defensive RPM). Put it all together, and Miami's need is allowing Duncan Robinson to be the player he looked like he was going to be after his first two seasons had he been allowed to continue his arc.

I hate to have him relegated to the bench when Herro returns, Herro needs to replace Lowry, not Duncan.
