I let go after year two. I didn't get to experience a non-COVID year. I am struggling finding a new job outside of teaching and deal with guilt frequently for not contributing financially in my home. Thank you for this information and resources.

I feel for you, Alex. Hoping the forms will boost your job search efforts. Whenever I feel guilt or indecision or start to mentally beat myself up about something, I try to flip that script and take action instead. Every drop of energy I spend dwelling is a moment I could be putting toward building something new. You can do this! You made it all the way through teacher college, so I know you can take on this challenge, too.

I came the other way. I left a counseling career I was burning out in and started teaching. Coming from the business world I see lots of teacher burnout and empathize with them a lot. I wouldn't make it if this was my career, though it has been a nice transition for me personally as a third career shift. Previously in the counseling field, I see the isolation of teachers paired with the ever growing results driven expectations (and oh my the added work!!) and can understand how someone who has never done anything else would feel trapped. I have told several about this video. Much of my success came from your resources that first year and i thank you. Government run jobs are slow to change. I hope school systems develop plans not only to retain teachers but to support and care for them.

Hey from Knoxville! 24 years teaching high school English. Was thinking about leaving for a couple of years, but was scared. Last December, I started looking at what was out there. I honed in on instructional design, downloaded a bunch of free trial apps and taught myself a bunch of stuff, applied, got loads of rejection, and then landed a fantastic gig starting next month that pays more than I ever thought I could make. I was planning on hanging on for the rest of this semester, but left a week ago when my blood pressure was 178/114. That was after I had taken my BP meds that morning. I’m now on FMLA until my new job starts. The stress of it all had me cracking. It’s not worth it. And, yep, the lingo transition was difficult, but needed.

Love it. I transitioned out of teaching after 30 years of teaching (last December). I just started my new job. It feels good to start something entirely new even though it's taken me a couple of years to get there. Whether it'll be my ideal job, I don't know yet. But the fact that a new door opened and I'm getting some new experience feels so good. And I noticed that employers are very happy with our skills we gained as a teacher. I live in Europe but I'm sure it'll be the same in America!

Great stuff! Any thoughts on the teacher project and/or creating a tutoring business (in-person or online)? I'm an Ontario Drama/English teacher who enjoys supply teaching and I'm looking to supplement my income. I have little interest in full time teaching positions because I get bored. I also love getting outside and hope to guide students on outdoor educational experiences. Thanks!
