No teacher is an island. We need each other as we navigate the thrilling and often-choppy waters of secondary education. On this channel, you'll find life preservers in the form of tips, tricks, and tons of encouragement. Whether you're a first-year teacher or a veteran, we all need practical, real-world tips to help run our classrooms.
Since 1998, I’ve shared my love of literature and writing with high school students as a classroom teacher, library education specialist, and curriculum developer. I’ve taught them all, from the highest-achieving honors student to the continuation kid on the verge of dropping out of school. What every student wants is to be inspired, to learn, and to have some fun while at school. I hope my passion for learning and for helping kids comes through in this KZread channel.

Can you share the 6 guiding questions as well?
This is great effort by you. Working on people when it is needed, during their relevant childhood period. First time seeing the link between art and adulthood/life
I teach 3rd grade and do something like this with Daily 5 and use their sentences that they have written from journals or other assignments. This seems to be effective rather than worksheets that teach grammar points in isolation. They learn it but next day or a week later they forget so application is key.
I am going to be teaching a sophomore, algebra two class in September. I am very familiar with the material, but have been perseverating on how to do that first day introduction. They say you don’t get a second chance at making the first impression. Your list of conversation starters is fantastic, and only needed to change a few words, of course, to make it Math instead of English. If every teacher had your personality and your enthusiasm, the education system in this country would be quite a bit better off.
White sugar, white top (laminate), white winter?
I found it ❤❤❤
I'm glad! :)
How do you purchase these lesson plans❤ God knows I’m interested 😂 seriously
Thank God I work in the north. I get paid year round…. Although I’m paying myself because it’s deducted from my check every paycheck, I wouldn’t have it any other way! And it’s more 💵💰😊
I had 9 english teachers and youre the best so far 😂
Nothing will change as long as the districts can find bodies at this point. Retired public school teacher here. I put in my 30 years and was eligible for my pension. I subbed full time for 6 years after retiring. I hear you. Same old as when I was teaching.
As a non-teacher this was so ominous until i realized haha
Wow! That is a big deal!! I knew this intuitively. But thank you for the proof video!! Awesome!! 🎉❤
Love this!!!!
Yes time filler activities!!! Loving this video 🎉
Imagine taking an art class where every week, the teacher hands you a Paint By Numbers kit. Every week the teacher grades your kit on how well you stayed within the lines, but he doesnt enter that grade in the book until you go back and touch up any "mistakes" he has pointed out. What this art teacher is doing for your love of art is exactly what this teacher is doing for her students' love of writing. The reason English is mandated in all four years of high school is because math, science, history, shop, and foreign language teachers all command higher salaries.
Congratulations! I didn't think it was possible but you've managed to over engineering English 🤙
Is this product still available ?
This video is many, many years old. You'll want to check on the Ipevo site for whatever updates they've created. Sorry, I no longer use this product.
❤ Love love love your lessons, Laura. My kids love them, too.
Love the love! Thanks, Kelllie. ❤️
This video is actually SO helpful. Your “rambling” is so conversational and authentic. As a teacher in the early stages of his career, thank you.
Thank you for sharing...it really helps. Have a nice day❤
What might be some other options for de-escalating a situation for those of us who aren’t dexterous enough to make balloon animals?
Definitely not about the balloon animals. It's all about breaking the tension with someone safe and silly. Grab the classroom TV remote and start talking into it like it's a phone. Start telling it fictional secrets in a low voice. Find something that fits your style and use that as your go-to move. ;)
Love this and you’re awesome! Are you back teaching hs again?
I moved over to the library. Still around young people all day, but no more papers to grade or parent emails to manage. 😉
I agree with the Do Now being something short for the student to do at the beginning of the class.
Where do I find the links that you mention?
A good place to start is with my free intro. paragraph materials: www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/How-to-Write-an-Introductory-Paragraph-FREE-Slides-Handout-Model-Intro-3439047
This is a great video for me, and I love your channel and website. I'm starting as a middle school history teacher this fall...first timer, so I'm a rookie (in a school setting). I love the slide presentation. I've been trying to download or make a copy in Prezi...even paid the $5.00 to download it. However, I wasn't able to get the download, and Prezi is unable to allow me to make a duplicate. Any help you can give a newbie?
First, welcome to this side of the teacher's desk! Glad you're here. Second, Prezi changed their terms/usage rules several years ago, making sharing templates like this far more difficult than it needs to be. I haven't made a new Prezi in years because of their nonsense. If you'll message me through my blog's contact page (laurarandazzo.com/contact/), I can send you a PDF version of the slide show. It's not great because it's a static PDF, but at least you'll be able to see the core info. I included and then you can build something similar for yourself in Google Slides or PowerPoint. Again, my apologies for the tech shift. Believe me, I'm gone round-and-round with Prezi changes over the past 10 years and had to move away from that platform. Ask them for a refund, too. Ugh. LR
Well, i grew up in a small place in the 80s. Teachers carried huge weight. It was a family of teachers, generational. School board full of same family members, teachers all cousins. Awful. Gossiping in the community carried into the school by the adults. I couldn't wait to leave to university. If you are a poorer family, how the teacher treats you or humiliates you for things out of your control; that stuff sticks. But it turned out ok, in spite of that. I grew to really appreciate education in a whole new way as an adult. My best educational experience happened in university. Teachers cant teach about bullying if theyre being bullied or bullying themselves.

I was the class of 6 so your wrong lady😊
Watched again! Sorry you aren't making any money off these videos.
I appreciate it! I never have, so it's no real loss. 🤣
what style of projector is best. I need cost effective:)
Are these in the full year resource or a new set of bell ringers?
Full-year includes all of these except for 3 of a Kind because that's a newer series. A LOT of the 9/10 curriculum will work for 8th graders, just be ready to cut some supplemental activities for time and scaffold some lessons a bit more. ;)
1. Sara opened the door with heavy arms. Relieved to finally be able to relax. Holding her eyes open began to be a struggle. She couldn't take another step. with a heavy thud, she slumped onto the couch. 2. Bouncing off the furniture, Piper grabbed the pillows, tossing them back in forth in her mouth. The pillow tore open revealing the stuffing inside. In seconds there was stuffing scattered all over the floor. 3. Rachel's right arm was up in the air with her middle finger pointed at the boys. Screaming at the top of her lungs till her face turned red, telling the boys exactly how their little prank was going to get them expelled. 4. A man walked into the classroom. keeping his eyes on the floor as he addressed the class. He then turns his back to the class and introduces himself as Mr. Stoll. Taking his chair and pulling it across the room making the legs drag across the floor causing the students to jump and cover their ears. He walks back to the desk and sits on the top with his back yet again to the class. Everyone is now curious about what will happen next, but the man just sits there staring at the chalkboard.
Beautiful work!
I watched because I hadn’t seen many of your videos lately (since I took early retirement last June), and I wanted to check in and see what you’re doing in Nashville! Hope you are doing well still!
Congratulations on your retirement! The Randazzo family's doing great. We'll be in Nashville til our youngest finishes college and then we'll roll on and see where we land. ❤️
I go to a really small school in my school has 12 students
I have 60-72 students in my class 😅
Where do I find this free worksheet?
Here you go! laurarandazzo.com/product/graduation-speech-analysis-free-video-based-lesson-sub-plan-pdf-google-drive/
Yeah but imagine having to pay that many extras for TV show
In my school I have between 10-6 people in each class
I don’t think I’ve ever had a class more than 12 people
Depends on what state or region you are in. In California, definitely 30-45. In NY outside of NYC? You will usually see those "fantasy numbers", even in urban areas.
When I was growing up in Japan, there were a lot of children. My grade had nearly 60 students per class, with 15 classes in total. Looking back now, it seems quite unusual. Nowadays, the number of children has decreased, and some schools have even been closed.
Or private school land. Or small town America land. Or dying city land... Just saying.
In my highschool we had 5-9 kids in each class
Or private school
I go to an italian school n in my class we are 22 n our teachers do have more than one class
Depends on the class. Electives generally have smaller class sizes. My High School Latin had fewer than 20. And I had a college Mediation class with only 5. But yeah, for the required Math or Science each year in high school, it was definitely 30 or more and college lecture halls were dozens or even over 100.
I went to the biggest high school in my state and the classrooms were 30+ each. I moved to a high school with around 1000 people and the classroom was around 18 people. I'm sure a high school with only 500 students would have 12-15 per classroom.
Not me in elementary with 50, or in middle school with 48, or beginning 9f high school with 45 hahaha
Totally agree. I'm a teacher now with 25-35 students x 7 classes. My class of 27 feels like an easy, relaxed dream - I can't even imagine 12-18 students! The high school I attended was 250 students (in the rural US), and we still had 30-35 in every class. So I don't see it as a city problem or a big school problem, it's a problem of how many teachers the school/district is willing to pay for.
