Marshall gets his hands on a neo-vintage classic, an Oris Big Crown Pointer Date from the 1990's! This is Oris's most iconic model, and it shows what some mechanical creativity can bring to the most widely-used movement in Swiss watchmaking, the ETA 2824-2. Enjoy this service and restoration!

Also I think he narrates the repair after he films it so there's no surprises, just like the deal with the pallet fork.
Thanks for fixing my watch Marshall! I was worried it wasn't janky enough for an entertaining video, but turns out it had a "broken heart".

There are many great watch repair channels on YT, but your narration is simply the best Marshall, it makes your uploads so engaging. I can even ‘watch’ just listening without even looking at it all the time! Thank you from Lincolnshire, England.

Want to add support to this line of commentary. Have tried watching other channels with a similar intent and this one is hands down the one I enjoy the most. No histrionics, love the way the process unfolds and is covered in a similar manner from watch to watch, the voice over is done really well. Well done, please keep it up. My only suggestion would be do more d*** videos 😛
Cool to see you do an Oris. I live about twenty minutes away and drive by their factory at least once a week. I alway think how cool it would be to see you fixing an Oris and here you are. They are also one of the few makers that still develop own movements besides using ETA's.

Let's be honest, we were all excited when the mainspring didn't work out for you...we got to hear "the click"😂❤ Love your work sir, fascinating videos!❤
In a crazy world, Marshal gives me 45 minutes of calm. Thank you.
Oris deserves much more credit. It’s a relatable and affordable brand with very innovative and all-around-cool designs. I have one diver which I bought on ‘05 and it’s still running like new. Love that beast!
Thanks for taking us on the journey Marshall! It's always a pleasure watching you open up and service these little engineering marvels! Cheers!
I really like the look of this watch. I will look into more ORIS. I LOVE the date hand like that. Super cool.
Man! This is a really cool looking watch! I love the fact that each video of WWR showcases new quirky and amazing vintage timepieces!! Keep it up Marshall!
I enjoy watching you work, as well as listen to your commentary! I learn so much about watches, and I have learned to appreciate the many different complications they have. From one of a kind, hand made parts, to assembly line manufactured parts that replacement parts can drop in and work without having to be aligned or modified, is just hard to believe they can be so small, yet so precise! Having the ability to replace the pallet fork with a new one as you did is a miracle of modern machinery! Thanks for taking the time to show us the process of 'servicing' and repairing such tiny little mechanical computers we all take for granted!
It's so pleasing to watch you do your thing and so satisfying to see the watches coming back to life, Marshal. Especially from a brand like Oris that I absolutely love.
I always adore this watch big time, so stoked to be able to see it's ins and outs!
You don’t know the dopamine rush I just got seeing another upload. Thank you Marshall!
Your voiceover is on point. It's like you're there experiencing all the surprises for the first time with us.
I stumbled onto your channel about a month ago and I've been hooked ever since!! After watching some of your more recent videos, i went to check out some of your older vids and honestly I'm super impressed by how much progress you've made over the past couple years in how you handle the restorations!! Thank you for providing us with these extremely entertaining videos Marshall!! Keep up the great work!
The pattern on the number plate adds a lot of beauty. Thanks for all the work you explain and do.
Good 👍 stuff Marshall..thanks for the breakdown of information on this Oris.Always a pleasure to see and hear you.
It's always unbelievable how you suprise me every time. It's so wonderful watching you do your magic. Thank you again
The level of care and your desire to troubleshoot even the smallest issue, shows just how dedicated you are to restoring/servicing great watches. Just trying to say, you one one of best people in this space. Thanks again for a great video.
It's wonderful to see the evolution of the Big Crown. I have a 2021 version in blue that still uses the ETA, red rotor and all. Great video as always!
Rumour has it that Marshal as a kid was notorious as a Top Gun for playing "Operation" at parties. He could remove a funny bone like nothing while everyone else is sweating like defusing a bomb.😂
The coolest thing about this watch is, as you mentioned. The use of every watchmakers favorite movement to work on with an interesting twist to transfer date window function back to a hand. It's just a fun complication to see.
love this model family, thanks for showcasing one Marshall!
I’m not a fan of wearing a date watch myself but the way that Oris designed that is super creative. Keeps the size down, doesn’t add a ton of complication to the movement they also use for all the rest of their line. A smart and stylish solution.

@@4kleidisc I own over 25 watches, zero automatics and I don’t always get to winding them every day. It’s just based on it not fitting into how I use the watch. TBF I didn’t wear a watch till my 30’s so my experience of using a watch probably isn’t like everyone else’s.
Just bought my first mechanical watch! Thanks for getting me into the hobby!
That mainspring incident reminds me of the times I’ve replaced the recoil spring in lawn equipment. I’ve had quite a few rapid uncoils during assembly. Thanks for the video.
I have just discovered this gentleman and his watch repair. He obviously enjoys the challenge and detail of repairing watches to the best possible condition. He is a great example of a person following his bliss. Joseph Campbell, a philosopher and theologian of the last century recommended that we all, in finding our life's work, do what we really enjoy. Marshall is obviously doing just that. Congratulations!
Just bought a 90's vintage Big Crown pointer date. Beautiful watch, I love it!
Great time piece. I have one in my own collection and they are rock solid reliable and very well made. The Big Crown was a design hang over from its origins as an aviation time piece to allow pilots to easily adjust the crown in spite of its more dress watch design language.
Great looking watch and another great service Marshall..Love the dial and the modified functions of the ETA.. Nice job..and Kudos to ya.
It’s hard waiting a month for each new video but it’s well worth it. You made my Sunday morning.❤
Great video, Marshall! Really interesting to learn about independent watch makers and see how they change up designs.
I've a pointer date my dad gave me a number of years ago - it was the first 'proper' watch he bought himself when he was working in the fancy end of London. Still works perfectly, and I love the clever date function - great to see inside one!
I have always been an ORIS fan. Thanks for the look inside!
Marshall, I love your videos you explain things very well you’re very clear spoken. Please keep it up.
My favorite part of this video is when you messed up the mainspring! Happens to so many of us that dabble in watch making. I always feel like a dummy when I do something like that while working on a watch. Nice to see that it happens to the best of us too! Thanks for keeping that part in the video Marshall. 😄
It amazes me how you remember where all those parts go. You know it like you know your name. I have the exact same watch and love it.
I enjoy watching you fixing Oris as I do own one with alarm and looking forward for your help
That's actually a nice looking watch, well done on spotting the chipped pallet fork jewel, great to see it running well when finished. Good work.
You certainly have a great skill Marshal, I love all the different tools you use its fascinating
Beautiful watch - love the dial and the date pointer. Great choice for repair!
I must admit, l really enjoy your channel. Your enthusiasm is catching with lots of entertainment and humour. Well I've ordered my first books as this, with your influence, has set me on the path to engage in this hobby. Especially as l have some old wind-ups that need sorting out.
Just ordered the basic tools. Looking forward to disassembling my first watch
I've never heard of Oris so I went to their site and found a brand with excellent designs, features and in my price range. And, of course, another excellent video. Thank you, Marshall.

Just bought my first Oris after being a fan for a longtime. I love it and really like seeing you work on one! Love your channel.
As always you have given us another great video; very entertaining and instructive. This video helped me to better understand the high friction, low friction areas for better application of the different weights of lubricants and grease. Thank you.
Such a gorgeous dial and band combination.

I have one of the variants of this watch and it was a great pleasure to see you work on this watch. Thank you and love the channel.
Lovely workmanship, Marshall. I shall be buying this watch for Charley, my 26 year old Master carpenter for her Birthday. She will love it. Thank you so much, Wendi UK 🌻
One of my favorite watches i’ve had two now. I had a vintage 32mm model and now I have a modern 39mm in bronze one of my favorite watches without a doubt. Glad to see you do one !
Recently bought a big crown pointer date. Perfect timing for this video.
LOL that main spring moment. Love it. I know next to nothing about the watch world, but I love this channel, thanks for sharing your passion for this hobby, it's so cool to learn about something I don't know anything about. Appreciate it man!
Yess! I love my pointer date. Looking forward to seeing what the inside of my watch looks like.
Oh I have been waiting for this show and the next showstopper! Thank you!! Top notch entertainment on youtube these days!! Thank you so much Marshall!!
Another great video Marshall, lovely watch too. Keep up the good work, we all really appreciate your efforts 👍
Love the look of this watch. Well done. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic video as always! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!
Another excellent video as always, thanks. I own 3 Oris myself, one of these is a mechanical alarm watch which I bought in 80', the shop told me that Oris would be most likely not making this type of alarm watch anymore since they stopped making the alarming movement.
Oris make lovely watches. I have 3 and they have been faultless. The movements are excellent.
This watch is my grail watch. What a beautiful piece. Thank for the vid!
I'm amazed in a sense that I had a manager years ago who might have had one like this because the date hand flashed in my memory. Seen before. Thank you for working on this.
i was just watching a video for a computer interface time checker from the UK it lets you hear the actual escapement wheel and pallet fork interact the actual sound it makes. i bet we would have found this problem with chipped rock a lot faster. very cool show brother bob ps my first attempt was a pocket watch like you said to start with i only removed the balance and pallet fork alone with the bridges. took an hour to get pallet fork lower pin in wow patience isn't the word thanks again!
I love the dial and the hands. It is just beautiful.
I really like the A-11 you worked one, but I think this has become my favorite looking watch you’ve worked on.
Would have liked to see the Time Grapher results after replacing that jeweled piece. Love your work & vids!! Thanks for showing.

that's a GORGEOUS date mechanism!
Greetings from northern Sweden and fellow watch enthusiast and new subcriber, been watching the videos for some time. First video just started after a lecture on quantum physichs I was listening to while scrapping in the garage, I liked it and kept watching the Lovely videos and your humor.
Beautiful watch, and once again, thanks for sharing with us!
This one was great to watch since 2824 are so ubiquitous. It's nice to see your repair of one.
Thoroughly enjoyed this! I also have a late 1990's Oris Pointer Date, except mine has a smaller crown with crown guards, a black dial with sub-seconds dial and the hands are less elaborate and the date pointer is all red. I think it is called the "Sporty Elegance". I have always been curious how the pointer date mechanism worked. Now I know!
Marshall, just watched your interview with Watchcrunch, my first time seeing u in person, nice to put a fac3 to the voice , love 5he channel
I have a pointer date in my collection. Wonderful watch. Oris puts out a good product. I love that dial.
Due to the brilliant camera and editing work, i have already forgotten the mainspring. love your work.👍
I love this man beyond human comprehension
Amazing - truly amazing I worked in the operating room for 30 years - YOU have surgeon hands That’s quite a compliment ✌🏼
Love it man. I bought the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date 80th Edition for my Dad's 80th Birthday. He loves that piece. I have 5 Oris's in my collection. Love them. Stay independent ORIS !!
Gorgeous model watch. I am hoping to get the Cervo Volante special edition soon!
Oris Big Crown was the first watch I saw that got me interested in the hobby.
Really appreciate how educational this channel is. Never knew the conglomeration info until now, thanks Marshal! Not really a collector per se. Purchased an Illinois 23 jewel Bunn Special as a dedication piece to my grandfather about 10 years ago. His love of pocket/mechanical watches rubbed off on me. It's my favourite watch. Went a bit off track on the 2nd watch, an Armourlite limited edition isobrite t100 (charged glow skull dial, t100 vial accents in the eyes, hands and 5 min markers). 3rd I'm hoping I didn't get scammed on, but it's appearing to be the reality. A Citizen Record Label "Bullhead" Tsuno. An Elgin, or maybe a Hamilton, pocket watch will probably be the last.
Saw this and turned around and bought one. Can't wait to get it
As always, the most satisfying video online ... thanks!!
Impressive diagnosis of the pallet fork jewel chip.
Awesome as Always.Great content, pleasure to watch and learn.
great to see an Oris. I love my Aquis Diver. I bought it because I like the idea they are independent.
I always enjoy your vids.. though after several tries I can assuredly say that I'm not a watch repair man.. thanks for making it look so easy..
you did great with this one, keep doing it! I just wanted to take a moment to say how amazing your video was! I was really impressed with the quality of the footage, the editing, and the overall presentation. You did a great job of explaining the topic in a clear and concise way, and I learned a lot from watching your video. ;)

i enjoy your videos so much .. due to you i´m now a watch guy and getting the old watch of grandpa repaired and will wear it 😇
