Rebuilding old iron is becoming increasingly popular due to the cost and complexity of new Tier 4 final machines.

Yes, I've noticed at auction, heavy trucks, a 2006 will often go for more money than a 2018. And for good reason. Any fuel savings will be negated 100 times by repair cost of the emissions systems

What a machine! This machine weighs over 60 tons and is as fast and powerful as any modern excavator in this weight class in 2021.Great camera work and a good driver too.

Just think this wonderful big CAT, was lanched the 245s, in 1974 I always thought the steering lever was a interesting feature And when you look at the dominant lever controls today, it's CAT controls on the market Looking back at the 70s, think about the competition BE KOEHRIN. The LS. Link Belts. There swing was forward and back, not the Left or Right pull of Lever. And don't forget JD, there boom And arm where backass, words as the guys say From CAT. I learned on a CASE three lever, then went to a JD. Talk about a mind, arm, control nightmare. I own a 1978-190 Dynahoe, now. My play toy, always liked the frame support of backhoe being part of mainframe of machine. They were the only backhoe that could hold up, with Bullhead breakers, or a Hoepack. I remember trying to tighten down the bolts on the old CASE to keep the backhoe end from slipping back and forth. The JDs, back then all had clutch trannys, so it was a slower shuttle time. I did LOVE the JD 450 Dozer with the clutch, full throttled it had so much Power, and that excellent T. handle blade control. Very advanced for time. There were a lot of SEWER contractor around my area, who had JD-450 Dozer With the Hoe attachment on back for backfill on mainline then digging in the sidesewer, stubs. Anyway the CAT was so advanced for its day. And when they finally came out with the 416 Rubber tired backhoe, it had the early CASE two cylinder Backhoe boom, and a one cylinder JD Front end Loader set up. It was interesting how CAT stood back and watched what was great Loader & Backhoe setups, for other brands, And built there first one on successful lifters of other competitors. I am a big backer of CAT. My Retirement portfolio has CAT added by my OWN doing NOT advice by my Retirement Manager. I personally wanted to invest in that great Company CATERPILLAR. I have always been amazed by there ideas, Design. Them taking on BE in heavy mining. Just hope they keep up the STOUTNESS, of a BE Machine. That's why I bought my Dynahoe she had 8000 hours on her in 2003 when I found her. I have put Hundreds of Hours on her. Except for having to reseal most of the aged seals on Hydraulic cylinders, never have touched engine. Keep clean Filters in her. That 353 Detroit keeps purring along for what I do. A Big Muskie for my Garden so to speak. Keep a plug in to her for winter, cold weather start ups. I have a video on U-Tube if anyone wants to see me operating her. My baby girl. I baby her now, she has had a hard life before I bought her. Sorry for my on and on. But just watching a restored 245 CAT operating in such perfect condition made me get diarrhea of the mouth. SORRY everyone. It's so wonderful to watch that 245 all restored to its glory.

This is such good camera work, and a beautiful machine, it's a shame it has such an annoying exhaust leak. This would be worth reshooting after it got fixed lol.

We have a 245 where I work. We just use it to feed the crusher because it has a long stick and you can reach the crusher easily. I don’t mind running it but I only run it in the winter. It would really suck on a 100 degree summer day.
