Starts right up, just like a good little 3306. I had an old Freightshaker with a 3306b. Most reliable motor I ever had in any truck. Not the most HP on the road, but that thing never EVER refused to start right away, even in bitter cold winter weather.

Look at the size of the boom cylinders, they're huge. The hydraulics on these old machines ran at about half the pressure, that's why the cylinders are so thick to get the force out of the fluid. Modern excavators have skinnier cylinders, but running at higher pressure they can generate the same force.

Plus the minor issue of the fines the EPA hands out if you are caught in violation of the clean air act. DEF itself isn't a big issue, it's the way the engine itself is controlled that causes the most complaints.

is the 235's rotary swivel joint leaking.. i see a puddle under it @4:20 might be easier to fix when its NOT working daily.. could be a track motor hose or fitting oring to.. only a look above that heavy heavy belly plate.. huge hint.. figure out what thread the belly plate bolts are. use all thread with some coupling nuts with some 6" bolts welded to the coupling nuts to make them into giant wing nuts.. this will easily drop the belly plate.. you may want to use the welder to put a tack weld about an inch and a half from one end of the all thread.. so you can tighten the all thread against the threaded bracket making it harder to back out when loosening.. ps.. don't weld the bolts to the end of the coupling nuts.. so you can get a ratcheting box end wrench up the long piece of all thread and work the coupling nut with that till it gets to an easy spot.. make up 3 coupling nuts with bolts welded on for each piece of all thread.. so you can lock two together with a box end wrench on it to prevent it from backing out.. while unscrewing the one to lower the belly plate.. there was a video of i think ABOM79 or keith fenner pushing the inner sleeve out of a rotary swivel joint on their big press..
