The old 245, first medium sized excavator I operated. Brings on memories! That bar in front window, annoying as hell. The rig I was on was straight pipe, sounded awesome!

144,000. to 169,898 lbs. , The 245 B or D heavy lift trencher 169,000 lbs . 85 ton for the construction industry that ain't no medium size rig pull the stick and counterweight to move it any thing bigger and gotta pull the tracks off too

My dad operated these back in the day. He was an operator for over 30 years.

Started at a cat dealership in 1978 my first job was to install a high lift kit on 245. The operators figured out if they stepped on both travel pedals at the same time they could raise the main relief 500 psi . We used to set them up to the point you couldn't keep a turbo on very long !

The sound is amazing. Thank you for no music and only the sound of reality. I learned on a 245. Had to bleed the injectors each startup. They don't make them like this anymore.

That’s actually a good thing. These old bones were noisy and inefficient.

@@thewidower1 why do people change cars when the one that have is perfectly fine ? It's all about image, construction companies are no different. But when real work needs to be done call in the big old guns.

@@shaneward6689 people change cars because the technology is far more advanced and the cars are safer. The technology is advanced on equipment also. Maybe you could give an example of a construction company that still uses this old technology. When I drive by any construction site, they are usually running the latest technology available. There is a reason for this. It’s safer and it gets the job done faster ergo more profit.

Lol they put the old guys in the old machines because the expectations are not as high for the old iron. The high production machines need younger asses in the seat to keep up the high pace for longer shifts . I know guys will argue this point but it’s just reality. I can load just as fast now as I could 10 years ago but I find it a lot harder to keep it up ,by the end of the day I’m whooped ! Love the video👍

He is taking his time , a good operator in a healthy 245-B or D will out dig anything around ,any thing. I see it every Day. "PILGRIM" Those other cheap Asian type hoes are ready for the scrap yard after 5000 hours

I know young guys that park their machines when the A/C goes down on them. And I know old guys that work in Caribbean heat with no A/C and no suspension seats.... I find many young guys are comfort kings who fold up when the going gets hard

Running old iron has a technique all it's own. I see alot of comments knocking the old timer, but old iron doesn't just plow through material like newer machines. I'm not saying he's perfect, but each machine handled differently back then..... you adjusted your style to fit each piece of iron.

Maybe he no like the grease me boy. if you take proper care the real cats last , heck me boy, the brand new mistubisheee shit has play after one year even if you grease the shit out em'. softer steel for the pins now a days. me boy

There's lots of ways to make art and I think this is one of them.
