Restoration of a Rare 1935 King George V & Queen Mary Silver Jubilee Commemorative Piece
This restoration video is of a 1935 King George V & Queen Mary Silver Jubilee Commemorative Piece. This item is a very rare and valuable example of British Silver. The piece is in excellent condition and can be considered a high-end restoration. The item will be shipped to its new owner in very secure and padded packaging.
Historical Significance:
This commemorative piece hails from the grand Silver Jubilee celebration of King George V and Queen Mary in 1935. King George V ascended to the throne in 1910, and by 1935, he had been the reigning monarch for 25 years. This momentous occasion was celebrated with great enthusiasm not only in Britain but also across the vast British Empire, which included India.
Rare and Unique:
What makes this piece even more intriguing is its rarity. Labeled as "Very Rare," it's a testament to the historical importance of the event it commemorates. Rarity can stem from various factors, such as limited production, unique design elements, or its connection to a particular place or organization.
The Delhi Municipal Committee Connection:
The "Diameter. Very Rare King George V & Queen Mary Silver Jubilee 1935 Presented By Delhi Municipal Committee" was presented by the Delhi Municipal Committee, now known as the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). This connection between the committee and the jubilee signifies the significance of the event in India, which was then under British colonial rule. This piece serves as a tangible link between Delhi's local governance and the grandeur of the British monarchy.
The Restoration Process:
In this video, witness the skilled hands of restoration experts as they carefully work on bringing this rare artifact back to its former glory. From cleaning and preserving its silver composition to repairing any damage accrued over the decades, every step of the restoration process is captured in stunning detail.
Preserving History:
Restoration isn't just about making an object look good again; it's about preserving history for future generations. This commemorative piece carries with it not only the weight of its materials but also the stories of the people and events it represents.

The pitting doesn't look that deep for the amount of rust shown at the begining.
“Jubilee” means anniversary “Silver” refers to the 25th year anniversary where gifts are traditionally silver (for 50 years being gold etc) The plate is not made of silver, it was a souvenir made of another metal. It appears to have been originally copper plated then likely nickel plated to make it look silver originally but this coating corroded.

Agreed. Real silver doesn't rust.
I suspect these were machine stamped out by the thousands. The images are very crude and the piece is fairly unattractive. I wouldn’t worry about the destructive “restoration” done here, the piece probably has little value to start with.
I’m not understanding why a valuable piece was restored using harsh measures. Thank you for the video, but most that restore such historical pieces like this as a professional, tend to use softer less harsh & gentle measures to insure the piece isn’t compromised from what’s left of its original state.

First of all, this ISN'T a silver plate, because silver tarnishes black. And stainless steel doesn't corrode like this either. So... it has to be a cheaper copy of the commemorative plate.

Lol. No he just changed the family name because he wanted to sound more British than German. He thought Windsor sounded better.
Even though the use of a wire brush appeared a little harsh for cleaning the rare silver plate, at least you polished it using more gentle methods. It looks much better than before. Great work.

Your lucky to have gotten the opportunity to get a hold of something with such significance as this piece. I believe during the time of this silver jubilee there must have been hundreds if not thousands given to the people that attended this historical event and now after all this time you’ve gotten your hands on one is priceless to say the least. You’ve done a wonderful job restoring it to its glory and anyone with English roots or not would be proud to have it in their possession.

If you'd soaked it overnight in vinegar, baking soda and salt then carefully, maybe by hand, rubbed away the blackening and brought up a shine, that'd've been restoration. This...isn't. But you've shown us how to rechrome a piece at home, so thanks for that.

ESTÁ PRECIOSO. PERO HE ESTADO SUFRIENDO CON TANTOS LIJADOS. ESA TÉCNICA SE LLAMA * REPUJADO * Y CONSISTE EN HACER UN MOLDE Y LUEGO COLOCAR LA LÁMINA DEL METAL QUE SE VÁ A REPUJAR. ES MUY ENTRETENIDO SI SE HACE A MANO DANDO GOLMES AL METAL PARA QUE ADQUIERA LAS FORMAS DE DICHO MOLDE. NO ESTOY CONFORME CON LOS REPULIDOS QUE LE HA DADO. QUIERA QUE NO, ALGO SE " COME Y SE DESVIRTÚA EL MOTIVO. CON EL BAÑO DE PLATA ÚLTIMO Q LE DIÓ, , PUEDE Q SE HAYA RECUPERADO EL GROSOR ORIGINAL. PARA MÍ GUSTÓ, NO LO HUBIERA PLATEADO. LO ANTIGUO ES VIEJO Y REMOZARLO TANTO , LE RESTA ENCANTO. TENGO UN MARCO PORTARRETRATO DE ESTAÑO Y REPUJADO Y ESTOY LOCA CON ÉL. LO PUSIERON DE REBAJA LA LA GENTE NO SABÍA VALORARLO. ES DE LA INDIA.
Великолепно.Уважаю людей мастеров.
Silver doesnt rust. It will turn a dull brown and tarnish. That wire brush woukd destroy the silver finish.
Я такую тарелочку хочу
You state the piece is made of English Silver. Silver does not rust especially with the type of oxide the plate was covered in. Silver can be tarnished to which there are special cleaners that will not abrade the surfaces as you have done. Why would you brass plate the silver ? Usually you would silver plate brass. Very sad to see an historical item being treated so badly, please if you don't know how to restore pieces leave it to the experts.

And the Article looks good well done
First off silver dosent rust. Either it have been atrificially added as many "Restoring" channels do, or the item isen't acually made of silver. Secondly dont use wire brushes on silverware, it will do more damage than good. Use weak acids like citric acid or vinegar do breake up the rust. Even gently heating it up to a slight glow would do the thrick. Then use a soft abrasive sponge whit some polishing compound to bring it back in to a shine.
If thats silver I'll eat my kettle.
1st gen 'Windsor' because they were GERMAN- the CoSaxburg- Gotha family.
Whoever was in charge of keeping the royal silver polished, should be fired.
Nice put why the use of wire brush and chemical? Thst can damage the plate.

Incredible restoration… im puzzled what is the base metal? ❤
It's not silver or silver plated. The silver in title mean they where celebrating 25 anniversary of his rule
There is a difference between I don’t even know how to call what you did and preservation, in my opinion the plate lost all its value, you removed material, original plating and even re-plated the part for what, to make it shiny? All traces of history have been erases and in my opinion a careful use of proper chemical and a slight hand polishing leaving the marks of history would have left the piece in its original value but it’s only my humble opinion. Thank you for your videos that I enjoy seeing.

The plate had no value. It's not silver - silver doesn't rust.
Found silver a hundred years old in the ocean never saw rust. Anybody explain rust on silver. Know silver turns black but never saw rust.
Am I to assume this piece is made from silver? Are there British govt silver stamps on it? I just have never heard using a wire brush on delicate silver. This is a nice restoration. OOOPS!! Should have waited until the end. Sorry about that!
You made a SILVER jubilee platter GOLD
For everyone saying silver is related to the jubilee haven’t looked at the description where he calls it rare British silver and is trying to sell it. He is a liar and this isn’t silver but likely cheap tin. Use your brain people

It cannot possibly be "more than 100 years old" since the Silver Jubilee was in 1935 and it's only 2024 now.
What have you done😢.. the begining was great, using chalk was genius, but restoring silverplated steel using a electrobrassing is a crime. Get off this brass and just use a silver solutions. The process isn't cheap but results will be legendarny, trust me.
I can't read that fast!!!
Cant be much silver in that...silver doesnt rust like that.
It hurts me to see you use a wire brush to restore something historical.
Now that's quite an interesting sight. I've already realized that this is still ancient stuff. Some more 20th-century property is suddenly emerging.
This was the cheap souvenir version. Absolutly not silver or brass since neither rust. Several of these on Ebay.
This rare commemorative plate was cleaned with wire brushes? It makes sense, that a silver plated item would have copper underneath, so why did copper and silver turn rusty? Maybe it would have been faster to polish it on a grinding stone? Or use a set of coarse files? The scratches add an authentic-looking patina. Maybe use a hammer on an anvil to get rid of those pesky bumps in the middle?

Didn't know silver rusts???🤔🧐
Is there a silver mint stamp on the plate? If not it's not silver, maybe a silver substitute, I'm only guessing.
If I could just make a small correction to your commentary . . . ? British monarchs do not "rule". They "reign". A ruler's authority can always be revoked; a monarch's authority cannot. It only can cease to be recognised. That plate was not silver, as silver doesn't rust. It tarnishes (goes black). Secondly, even if it were silver, you wouldn't plate brass over silver. That would be putting a cheaper material over a noble material. It looked to me like cheap tinware, stamped out in the thousands. And thirdly---and most importantly---if it were silver-plate you would undoubtedly destroy it by your aggressive scrubbing with a wire brush and the harsh treatments you subjected it to. Please do not try to sell the piece as British Silver. That would be fraudulent. The word "silver" in this case refers to the "silver" anniversary of the king's reign---25 years. Hope this helps clarify matters.
Lots of abrasives. All that was missing was a chisel.
