Those cuttings sure look nice after being repotted! I’ve given a lot of cuttings away. It helps me to prune my plant and share the plant at the same time. Then I don’t have to grow it.

Hopefully they will grow better this time :D It's their punishment! Definitely for sharing the plants :) Just the other day I gave some of my archboldiana away :)
You have no idea how much I appreciate seeing you have struggles with plants. I have about 6 hoya that probably have root rot and I'll be restarting, and I'm so sad.

Oh, I am sorry to hear that! But I am sure they will be fine! They are very hardy plants and they usually root pretty fast.
Very interesting to see a school in your area and that plant lovers exist the world over. It was great to see.
You made me laugh out loud with this one. THANK YOU! The cutting. -love it! I really wanted to restart some Hoyas and now feel I can do it. The watering for propogations worries me as I dont know if I can keep up with it - any tips on those would be hugely helpful

I hate to cut my Hoyas. I want them to bloom and I fear that cutting them may slow that so I have plants that are on 4’ -5’ trellis’ and 6’ moss poles. That I never cut. The only time I cut is if I need plants for giveaways in my fb plant group. I do Hoya giveaways often to members who want a variety. But I have a 12x20’ greenhouse in my yard so I can grow them big and happy.
My goodness you look so handsome! Great video as always young man.
I love it another tour! Also low key I love going to the schools (or Hospitals) here in Serbia. Just because you can admire the humongous plants they have inside (normally a Monstera) and that sometimes it's much older than you (like an overgrown waterfall-ish Hoya carnosa). That Norfolk pine though. Oof that's looking rough 😅. Also, I appreciate the heads up on the Scheffleras. I was about to get one this week. As soon as you said scale I was like ❌🙅. Dodged that one.
@BasiePlants
Жыл бұрын
Hahaha :D Scheffleras are very nice but yeah, we are not about that pest life. There are really some magnificent plants here in public buildings. I saw gorgeous monsteras that I wish I could have taken home so many times xD Sometimes you see some that don't look so great but a lot of the public buildings have massive halls and giant windows. Ideal for all the plants.
Thank you for all the advice. I checked my Schefflera, and it was full of scale. I never knew those bumps on the stem were pests. 😢
Even when I stop growing Hoyas and move to another genus 😂 I will always watch your funny, entertaining videos. Love seeing your Hoya fails. Makes me feel better. 😅

I have a few plants I routinely start over to keep them smaller. loved y NFIP but I just gave it away the other day. I needed the space it was taking up. Also two big aspargus ferns. Now I have room for more hoyas were the ferns were.
Oh my god! I have spent the last week going through my entire collection other than the Hoyas and cutting and restarting. The worst part is not the cutting but all the pon that I have had to clean and boil. I have had four huge pots of pon to clean strain and boil. You have inspired me to start side eye appraising the few larger Hoya 😅
@BasiePlants
Жыл бұрын
Oh, I still have a looooot of pon to boil. I am definitely not looking forward to it at all 😂
You are just naturally funny 😁 I do not like to chop my plants, I like them big and I don't mind funky. However, I've had to restart the David Cummingii, because it suddenly started dying on me. Guessing root rot? 🤷♀️ Anyhow, I chopped it up and now the entire plant is rooting in pieces. I also had to chop off almost half of the Rebecca, it also randomly started dying on me. The chopped half is rooting together with the David Cummingii, the other half is still in soil, but not doing too hot. Will probably end up rerooting that one, too 😥
@BasiePlants
Жыл бұрын
That's good! I need to let go of the funky look, or my issues with it xD You know, sometimes they'll do that. I swear I struggled more with the super easy hoyas than really hard ones :D It makes no sense :D I hope they all recover well :)
Well, I "restarted" a hoya curtissii ... Actually it was a rescue! I got it for less than 5€ and cut all I thought that could be rooted... And almost all the "plant" lives now ❤ still waiting for some of the cuttings but mostly they have good roots now... Some in soil, one is in water and I also rescued some of the roots that were okay but only had 4 little leaves so... Yes, I'm experimenting with that 😂 thanks for your video as always!

I liked the pics of the school very much. Maybe this familiarity with plants will encourage some students to become plant parents. That hoya that looked like it had mold, did you throw the root ball away? I think i would have. Enjoy your videos very much.
@BasiePlants
Жыл бұрын
I am glad to hear that! I hope so! I think it will only be beneficial to grow up surrounded by so many plants :) I did discard the root ball, there was no node left. I think it was mold as well.
100% on board with cutting when the growth pattern isn’t aesthetically pleasing or symmetrical. I’m lazy though and prop in a big box together.

@@BasiePlants Welp. Found some. Oh well. My plant is not very large yet, so just did an alcohol wash/scraped them off with my fingernail.
Excited to see how these cuttings turn out! I have a couple hoya doing the exact same branching as your mappigera. Do you find that for many hoya the vine dies/branches when you pin it downward on a trellis? I've heard some people say that is common, but I don't know how to keep my hoya growing without ever pinning the vines downward haha
@BasiePlants
Жыл бұрын
I have some that die back when I trellis them. People say to keep the vine up, and I do, and yet they die back. I might even make a video about all the hoyas that died back when I trellised them, and kept the vine up 😂
I am the opposite. I am not a serial plant cutter. I allow them to grow a bit out of control. Then, when I cannot wait any longer, I give them a trim and water propagate the cuttings. 😊

I cut a lot of my plants both for appearance but especially when I get new plants that are not adapting to my environment, by restarting they seem to grow stronger and have a greater chance of success. I've either chopped or divided all of the plants you can just call me the mad chopper.
@BasiePlants
Жыл бұрын
hahaha mad chopper! I love it. But yes, it is true that plants that we root tend to grow better in our environments but also growth that happens in our homes is better adjusted than the greenhouse growth.

I’ve been growing Hoyas since 1984. I have to say, most do not age well. They get big, unruly, unattractive, and just too darn heavy for growing in the average home. Unless you have a big greenhouse or a lot of wall space where you can grow them on a trellis, you are going to have to take cuttings and sacrifice the mother plant.
you gotta let go of the fact that your mom killed your plants while you were away lolll. (teasing you)
