Marlon Wayans doesn't get enough recognition, I hate him in the movie and that's to show how good he was in playing the role. I knew when professional comedians like him steps out of comedy, they indeed became better actors

She knew that Jennifer was the perfect choice to play her in a movie; even told her “You’re gonna win another Oscar playing me, right?”; but don’t want to jinx it because the script, screenplay, the rest of the acting and so on need to be up there to the Queen of soul’s standards(can bet her ghost is probably like “I’ll be watching all of you, I have faith in Jennifer but the rest of you; I got my eyes on you so this knocks everything out of the park; you’re lucky I’m not here physically otherwise I would be throwing hands at any mistakes you make, but I can still do now”) and if Jennifer wins her second Oscar and her first Best Actress Oscar for this movie, me and so many others will be dancing in joy and listening to Respect in honor of the Queen herself

This trailer was before “A Quiet Place part 2” and “In The Heights” at the movies and I got goosebumps and surprised watching this.

I went to the theater to watch Cruella when the trailer for this came on and I literally got chills, so excited to watch this movie! And it’s amazing that Jennifer Hudson is playing Aretha Franklin 💗👑

As soon as I saw JHud as Aretha they had me hooked, but thanks to all who blew my mind saying that the legend herself wanted Jennifer in the role. She’s perfect for this! Can’t wait for more Audra McDonald and Forrest Whittaker too. They’re all going to bring power to their roles. Such a cast.

My mother, Valucha, sat me down on the bed to watch a pbs special on a young woman raised in the gospel choir at her church. She told me to listen and watch carefully. This young woman had it; she sang like no one else. I'll never forget Mamae's excitement and I've never forgotten my introduction to Aretha. Chills and tears watching the trailer. I agree. I just don't like when people say she's unappreciated in the music industry. Well, the last time I checked she hasn't been pursuing music by choice. If music was her focus she'd be at the top of the charts. Over the past several years she's been focusing on acting.

I just saw an early access screening. Oscar award winning performance! Bravo Jennifer! What a way to represent talent from Chicago! This was the best movie I’ve seen in a long time!

Excellent movie. Everything you said was true. They hit many points I didn’t know. I loved it. Singing was excellent…casting was too. I saw marlon in a different role which was great. I really wish it didn’t come out during covid so it could’ve gotten more recognition because my theater had like ten people in it. People are missing out on this one. Excellent excellent film.

i completely agree! i went to see it yesterday and i was so overwhelmed. it was such a well done movie and jennifer played her so amazingly, i was in tears at so many points of the movie! i loved it so much

So actually BOTH this and the genius: Aretha series were “authorized” as in signed off on by Aretha’s estate. The issues came after the ink dried and the family wanted say so in what was aired which isn’t how it works. Clive Davis is serving as EP on both projects by the way.

My review: Not a fan of Jennifer, but after going to see this movie; I walked out of the theater as a BIG fan. Wow! Jennifer was OUTSTANDING!!! She reminded me of Jamie Foxx playing Ray..she deserves an Oscar. She blew me away. The movie was very good, and the entire cast was just amazing. The movie lightly touched on Aretha life, but not too much; but enough to know what she went through in her life. I rate the movie : 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟 🌟

Just from this trailer I can tell that Hudson's performance is outstanding. I think that this woman has now truly grown into her skin as an actress. Bravo! Can't wait to see it.

From Dreamgirls to Aretha Franklin! Jeniffer Hudson is awesome!

Aside from her singing which is really beautiful and out of this world. Her speaking voice and speech as Aretha is so good. She sounds exactly like her, if you listen to old interviews of Aretha, you can see she’s not “Jennifer Hudson” in this role, she’s embodying Aretha through voice and speech as well in her acting.

When you get chills from just the trailer, you know it's gonna be good!

I watched this movie tonite my favorite song of hers is Mary don't you weep. Now after watching the movie I understand why she wrote it. For a about a number of years I would listen to that song trying to heal from childhood trauma that I pushed to the back of my brain

@@MrWmJosephSmithIII i mean she is using her own voice and still manages to sound like Aretha, or embodies Aretha’s features in singing. Bc actually Jennifer’s voice is very different from the Quên’s, so are her style of singing and vocal techniques.

I believed in this woman when I saw her on American Idol. I picked her and thought Simon was a fool to not see her phenomenal potential. She has not surprised me bc I saw her coming. She is a star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

@everything everything There is a lot of things wrong with your opinion and comments... For one, Aretha was an artist who sung other people's songs and without those songs she may not have had a career. Aretha did not get on top all by herself, so her life story is not just about her. Clive Davis knew Aretha and he produced her music in the 1980s and after. If he wanted to make a movie based on her music and her life, he has ever right to do so. Also, many of the songs Aretha song are not owned by Aretha's estate. Carole King owns 'Natural Woman', Stevie Wonder owns 'Until You Come Back To Me', these songs are up for grabs by anyone who is willing to pay a licensing fee if the owners of said music wants to license them.. Also, Aretha's life involved many people who are willing to share their stories pertaining to her and these people have a right to share their stories.. It does not matter whether an American actor/actress or a Foreigner is cast in a film, what matters is that the talent is capable of doing the performance and bringing in an audience.. Daniel Kaluuya is British, the man brought life to Judas and the Messiah, are you saying he should not have played the role because he's not American?

Also, I know Hampton's story as it is a part of our real history & I never forgot I was watching an actor pretending.

@everything everything They really need to remake that movie but they will never get the budget for it now since Daniel got the Oscar. Lakeith was perfect. They can keep him & recast Hampton's part. Daniel was not believable. There was only one scene where I felt he kind of captured Hampton's essence but he messed it up as soon as I was about to give him praise with his incoherent mumbling. 80% of the movie I couldn't even understand Daniel. Hampton had a distinct voice but he was easy to understand. Daniel was not. They just messed up Black American historical stories so much. SMH.

Halle respectfully bowed out. I didn't know that Aretha eventually handpicked Jennifer to play her. Wow, I'm sure Jennifer was blown away. Aesthetically and vocally, she is the better choice.

I can't see how Halle Berry could have pulled the movie off like Jennifer. I mean can Halle even sing? Not sure why Aretha would even consider getting Halle in the first place. Yes she can act but she recognized that playing Aretha was a "tall order." And it wasn't for her to play the role. JH even looks like she could be Aretha's daughter.

lol right i was like, "are they really pretending she wrote the song?" like, her interpretation of it is wonderful, and arguably better than his, but it seems like a wild choice to just erase Otis Redding from this story.

If you go listen to his song he doesn’t spell out respect like Aretha does(which you see her making in the trailer). I pint they’ll pretend she wrote it because the majority of arethas fans know Otis wrote it

Folks know Otis wrote the song...Aretha & her sisters just put a different spin on it. I had the same thought until I realized they were riffing.
