Rescuer Gets Dirty To Save Seal

This is why the docks have a lot of plastic rubbish scattered all over. Most of the plastic bags in these bins contain plastic straps. Some of the straps are not in bags, so when the wind picks up, most of them get blown into the sea. We can’t imagine what it looks like down there. We have requested some nets or anything that can be used to cover the bins to prevent the straps from getting blown out, but our requests fell on deaf ears.

The seals that hang out at the fishing docks have access to a regular food source, but also run the risk of getting caught up in the higher concentration of rubbish there. Great strategy, Tony--you surprised the seal and the dock workers!😆 Thanks for patrolling there on a regular basis! 🦭♻️

Our efforts are just a drop in the bucket compared to the millions of tonnes of trash entering the world's oceans every year. We are unfortunately not solving the problem, but only treating the symptoms of the plastic crisis with our rescues. These videos aim to show the consequences of this pollution and create a change to tackle its roots - namely our addiction to single-use plastics, the lack of law enforcement at sea, and the shortcomings of the recycling industry.

That seal was like "wtf just happened?" Great save, man. I can't imagine that a dumpster at a commercial fishing factory smelled very nice. But you do what you gotta do. That's a pro. Maybe you could talk to local government officials and require any dumpsters near the water to have lids, and the lids must be kept closed.

Seeing all that rubbish spilling out, and loose like that. was disheartening. The familiar causes of seal entanglements such as packing straps, and a rope net, so close to the water, discarded with such little effort, care or regard, was highlighted by the extreme amount of effort, respect and care Tony demonstrated to save the life of one seal. What is wrong with those people? Have they no shame after seeing all OCN do after the damage they cause?

Look at all those packing straps, and a net…. This must be how they behave when they don’t think people are around and they’re at ease. Did anyone else instinctively crane their necks out to see over the edge of the dumpster, as if we were there? The rubbish didn’t look wet but we don’t know how it smelled, who knows what was inside, just glad none of it burst open on you. Great job, inventive approach…. thank you Tony, nothing is beyond your reach!
