my savannah monitor plays tug of war with me using a dog rope he intentionally comes seeking out that activity , sometimes even brings the rope with him and then just stares at me with those dino eyes XD saying YOU KNOW WHAT I WANT btw the video is a tegu XD

Tegu are omnivores and like to eat some vegetables while monitor lizards are pure carnivores.

The lizard is beautiful, and what a beautiful bond with the grandmother.

@@doggo9567 I am not too sure about that. I've looked into the chemistry behind love and affection. It's true that the human hormone for affection and love it oxytocin. Reptiles do not have that. However, birds don't have that either, and birds are VERY affectionate and loving, to the point where they can depressed and self-harming if left alone too much. What birds produce is Mesotocin, and it does the same things to a bird brain that oxytocin does to a human brain. Mesotocin is also produced in reptiles. So there could very much be something going on in that little black and white head there. Sadly this kind of subject isn't studied much, and it's not really easy to find out if "love" exists in other creatures. But the equivalent chemical that could make love possible is there.

If you told someone you had a pet and his name was Blue, they would probably picture a HOUND DOG in their mind. Imagine their reaction when a giant lizard approached them and was as just as affectionate as any dog!

Tegus reach sexual maturity at 3 y/o, I wonder if that had any relevance? Chances are, you're correct, it's hard to focus when something is feasting on you.

I live in south of Brazil and the heavy rains over here flooded the entire state (the state is the size of Italy and the whole disaster is worse than Katrina and the death toll is on the rise and it will get worse after the water level drops) and everybody should know what's going on over here. There are thousands of people working non-stop and around the clock rescuing humans and animals (from dogs/cats to pigs, horses, chickens and so on) and we're getting donations from all over the country and over the world. There's one rescuer you should feature, she's Deise Falci and she's been rescuing animals with a small motorboat with lots of volunteers and lots of others are making this huge effort to rescue animals even with firemen discouraging the rescue of pets.

What a cute precious boy! Lotta ppl don't realize the larger lizards are social and need affection and attention.

Before anyone goes and rush out to buy a tegu and expecting they all turn out like this I can assure you the reality is very different. They are all individuals but majority of tegus are not this affectionate. They are more like cats than dogs in personality, they come when they feel like it which is usually when they want food or they will come to you for protection if they feel threatened😂(when taken outside at the park and there are other dogs and humans around). I have two tegus, one raised from a juvenile and can tell you with much experience they do calm down as they get older but most will never act puppy dog like. They will hang out with you on the couch and may cuddle up to you if it’s cooler in the room, they tolerate us more than anything. Mine lets me cuddle up to her and pat her all over but she is just as happy to be left alone if not more happy😂. As juveniles they are prone to biting because they are food aggressive and easily mistake your hand/fingers as food, if you buy any animal expect to get bitten by them at one point or another. Training them and wearing gloves during feeding so they don’t associate your hands with food will help. I am writing this long message because I have seen it happen quite a few times, people dumping their tegus because it had bitten them. Saying they are aggressive etc etc… in fact these people have unknowingly trained their tegus to bite them because when they go to feed them, the tegus will try to bite cause they go food crazy and usually the thing that comes into nearest contact are hands, then these people still throw in the food for their tegus. Soon the tegus associates biting them with getting food, you see where I’m going with this. It’s equal to rewarding a dog for bad behaviour. For anyone considering getting a tegus after watching this video please take all above points mentioned before buying one.

Thank you, it's so easy to see a well-behaved animal and ignore the hard work that goes into training and learning about it, as well as natural variance in personality from one animal to the next. The way I see it, tegus are comparable to badgers: large, intelligent, curious, not inherently aggressive, still able to rip your face off with casual ease. They can be great companions to people with the means to care for them, but they're not for everyone.

I love the ending with Grandma doing her nails on the couch with Blue watching.

How is he not supposed to love you? You are the best dad ever 🥹❤️

Tegus are incredible animals, very smart, they can be very affectionate (after a lengthy process of bonding) but they are NOT easy pets. They require a very carefully balanced diet, they can be very temperamental and aggressive, particularly when they’re feeling hormonal. And that bite? Yowza. It hurts like hell. A male tegu can bite with the same force as a fully grown jaguar. Not to mention their poop is super smelly and looks like scrambled eggs 🤢 not great to deal with if you have a weak stomach. Please keep all this in mind if you’re looking for a pet tegu- there are many abandoned ones because people got them when they were small and cute, and quickly got overwhelmed. They need a lot of space.

Many lizards are very affectionate and are clean smart creatures. They need specific care and people need to research them so they provide the best care for them. 🐾🐾❤️❤️😺😺🐾

Some animals are just smart enough to know when they have it made.

He's so beautiful. I grew up on a farm in Canada and would rescue salamanders I found in the cellar of our old farmhouse. I've never had a lizard but I love all animals (a little wary of snakes though) and I've always like to watch people with their lizards.

Well it took me months to grief Ricky but once secured a well paying home job that pays Thousands of dollars and still gave me lots of personal time thanks to laura muller ; I got a new Pet in memory of Ricky you know ; now I make it my first priority to ensure his well being and it's being like riding a roller coaster man. Never being more happy. Still miss Ricky tho

Tegus are the best period!! I have four myself with my oldest being 15. And really it doesn't matter if they're wild caught, abandoned, abused, or neglected prior. If you put in the time and have the patience, that tegu will quickly become your best friend. They also all have their own personalities and are super intelligent.

In Brazil we have these as common in our backyard as Americans have squirrels. They are very chill laid back. BUT they can be nuisance when they steal your chicken eggs. We have two dogs who keep them away from the coop. But we love having them around otherwise. They keep rodents away, and therefore keep snakes away! Big plus having them around.

Tegus are incredibly smart and incredible sensitive to change! Mine learned to open his glass he also desplayed signs of grumpiness when his enclosure was opened but he didnt get food. How was this discontent shown? He would look at you then turn away where he then proceeded to shovel dirt directly at you. He also didn't like my ex so he would face away whenever she came near 😂~ these guys will also actively seek attention and no its not just because "he was seeking heat" he had a hot spot and would break out to just curl under the covers with me then would crash out.

One friendly fella. I have have lizards that for years are not anywhere near that friendly. Healthy signs are he seems to be very active, enjoys to a large degree companionship. Thats about as good as it gets with a lizard! Bravo on a great companion.
