You'd need to mold both sides of the key, so you'd have to surround it instead of simply pressing on the clay. Add a hole so you can pour the material in it. How do I know? Well uh...

Michael C. It might be harder than you think because as he said it's it's very breakable which means getting your foot out without destroying most of the mold would be very difficult

I did this with silicone 5 days after my son was born. I used silicone to make the hand, then cast the silicone in plaster, then poured a silver hand. I gave one to each of his grandmas. I'm so glad I did that. He's 16 months old now and it reminds me of how tiny he was.

Me and my dad are gonna do this (but with a kit) for my birthday in 3 months so we will always have a memory of me growing up

If you vacuum the plaster it helps degass it. You can even pressure it and shrink the bubbles. We do it in jewelry casting.

I doubt that would work well if at all, the alginate seems far too fragile... maybe with galium but that's all I could see working.

The alginate is full of water so if somehow you didn't get a steam explosion you would end up with a very poor end result due to bubbles

what if u mix the mold mix and the cast mix together and let it sit?

Have you considered perhaps making a vibration table to remove air bubbles from projects like this? seems it could be a useful tool that you guys might utilize for a variety of projects.

Use that hand to make a cast for metal, make a metal hand. Like if you would like that

Will touch id work with the plaster thumb? edit: if you used a silicone thumb with an embedded magnet would it work?

David Samolkin No it doesn't have enough detail and if would also need to have a electric current (because thats how they register a hand apart from fingerprints)and plaster doesn't conduct very well.

Axe- L still needs current and sufficent detail which I don't think the moulds will give you.

Maybe try melt plastic and form it into something, that would be really cool...

can put alginate mix in the vacuum chamber and ones with a mold with casting material
