    I just changed my gauge cluster lights today with the instructions shown in this video. Was extremely useful. To those who have the JDM AE101 Corolla that has the speedometer till 240km/h, there is one difference, the no of LED bulbs excluding the fuel warning light is 4 instead of 3 Other than that it is the same. Thanks again Auto Fix

    Nice, that's exactly my setup. All LEDs except for turn signals. For brake light bulbs I suggest LEDs from SuperBrightLEDs.com. They're expensive but after years of buying many different LED bulbs for brake lights, I have come to the conclusion that those are the best.

    Curious if you have video for your Lexus GS dash

  • @AutoFixYT

    @AutoFixYT

    11 ай бұрын

    I don’t and I do plan on making one. The cluster on those GS models is lit up by a more rare type of lighting in the automotive world, CCFL lights. They’re not individual bulbs, they are tubes filled with gases that in the end emit light. This is why the backlight is so even across the gauges. They’re not individual bulbs. And because of this it is very difficult to replace them with LEDs. Not just the procedure itself, but then you have to customize the whole inside of the gauges so the light from the LEDs can be evenly dispersed across. Otherwise you end up with very blotchy lighting and dark areas. Not something I’d want to do. If I ever have to replace the lights, I’m sticking with the original type of lighting that is in there.

  • @AutoFixYT

    LEDs don't affect anything. You can swap any bulb you want for LEDs and nothing bad will happen, except for the turn signals. You will get hyperflash. Any other bulb will be treated the same as a halogen by the vehicle. I have swapped every single bulb in my car to LED besides the cigarette lighter plug and the turn signals, as well as the dummy lights in the gauge cluster. Everything else is LED. They make the car look a whole lot better in my opinion.

    I can't really tell you what exactly is wrong, but check all the wiring connections to the gauge cluster. Make sure the circuit board isn't broken or burnt. It could be that the motors that move the gauges aren't getting a signal. I don't know how to help you more than that. I may be worth it to just get another cluster from the junkyard that works and use that. You can roll the odometer to match your mileage.

    You can use the same bulbs but the process isn't the same. Similar, but not the same. Instead of the small bezel around the cluster you have to remove the whole face of the dashboard. So everything from the driver's vent all the way to the radio and heater controls is all one giant piece of plastic. Once that's off the cluster comes off the same way, 4 screws, 1 in each corner. Then you can replace your bulbs with 194 bulbs for the backlight. I did it on my 96 Camry Wagon but didn't film it. It was annoying to do haha

    Start by checking the fuses and see if any of them are bad. There is a fuse box in the engine bay, and one underneath the driver's side kick panel. If any are bad, replace them with the correct amperage fuse. If that's not the case, check for power at all the wires that lead to your headunit and gauge cluster. If they have no power then I would keep following those wires and see where they lead. Maybe something is broken, disconnected, or not making proper contact. Definitely start with the fuses though. All of them one by one.

    Check for a bad connection. That means the gauge isn't getting power anymore. Maybe it just so happened to break right then but most likely it's not getting power. So take it all back out and get the cluster disassembled, and with the ignition in the "On" position, take your multimeter and check for power right where it connects to the gauge. If you do have power but no movement, that means the motor that moves the gauge is bad. If you have no power, then go down the line until you find where the signal is interrupted.
