Corolla gets a Tachometer! - Gauge cluster swap

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video, I swap the old gauge cluster on my 1993 Toyota corolla DX ae102 for a newer model that has a tachometer! the old speedometer also was not accurate so that's a nice bonus! I found the new gauge cluster at my local pull and pay, and swapped my LED lights into it and it all worked out plug and play style! The only thing that does not work perfectly is the fuel gauge will read twice the amount that is actually in the tank.

    I found a94 manual cluster tach as mine is a 96 manual as as mine is a non tach well for 60 bucks shipped to me. Hopefully it’s also just plug and play. And I think with that dude means by resetting the ECU for your fuel gauge is just unplug it wait like 30 seconds and then plug it back in My top shroud screws or so hard to get out. I literally broke in one piece, the shroud out, and I rounded off the screws because even with a PowerDrill they did not come out

  • @walker.projects

    @walker.projects

    5 ай бұрын

    I hope it works for you as well! Maybe since your car is newer than the cluster, which was the opposite for me, it will work out for you, let me know what results you end up with! Also I would say that a power drill would not be a good idea in a situation like this with sensitive components and plastic pieces. I noticed that a short screw driver is best for this application, because you can get the correct angle and better seat in the screws, where a long one or power drill would be at an angle and might have been the cause of the stripping/rounding of the screws

    Hello and welcome! With yours being a 97, I believe any cluster will work without any problems, plug and play. Only issue with mine is the fuel gauge reading double the actual amount, but that's just a difference between the LE and the DX for 93-95. So yes I believe any cluster will work without a problem for you, as long as it's from 93-97 (¡Hola y bienvenido! Como el tuyo es un 97, creo que cualquier clúster funcionará sin problemas, plug and play. El único problema con el mío es que el indicador de combustible indica el doble de la cantidad real, pero eso es solo una diferencia entre el LE y el DX para 93-95. Así que sí, creo que cualquier clúster funcionará sin problemas, siempre que sea del 93 al 97.)

    So I pulled this one from a 95 DX at a junkyard, but I don't believe it was original to that car. The DNA motoring exhaust for about $300usd has the look I wanted, still sounds decent just not as deep, but the cheaper price comes with cheaper build quality. I was told it's because of the difference in the year of the car, and the year of the cluster since the car is a 93 and the cluster came out of a 96. So of you can find one make sure it's the same year. I'm not sure but I'd be willing to bet, 93-95 should be the same since the LE came with a tach, and then they discontinued the LE for 96-97 and the DX came with a tach so those should be the same

    Yeah i ended up getting a tach cluster and the gas gauge does seem to drop a little quicker on the first half tank of gas but still seems to be a little accurate because it reads the whole tank of gas and doesn’t drastically drop. I read somewhere that if you do this cluster swap, the gas gauge will just forever be a little off unless for some reason you had the same amount of gas in your car that the donor car with the cluster had.

    Hey I just swapped mine out! I found one for WAY too much money but it only had 80k on the clock. I had to change the 0 to 1 so that it’d match my actual 180k. On a serious note I got an issue I’ve never been able to figure out that I acquired over time. When the car isn’t warmed up the transmission always jerks going into reverse or drive. I always warm it up and wait for it to drop to 1000rpms or lower so that it goes in gear with minimal feedback. Can’t figure out why it had that sudden jerk in drive or reverse when it’s colder. 1200+ rpms. Which sucks cause it takes 5-10 minutes to get down to

  • @walker.projects

    @walker.projects

    5 ай бұрын

    With that I am not sure. Do you male sure to apply the parking brake every time your parking the car? If you leave the weight of the vehicle resting on the transmission instead of the parking brake, you will feel that tension when you shift into gear. I would also check the transmission fluid and make sure it's not low or extremely burnt. Other than that, I am no transmission expert by any means so I can't say for sure what could be the issue

    I’ve seen this on a lot of these cars, i have a 95 corolla and my brother has a 95 geo prizm (same car basically) and they all do the same thing, im almost certain its because how high the idle is on these cars, mine when warmed up on a good day drops to like 1k rpm but generally will be at around 1.2-1.3k warm, I’ve found that the harder i press in the brake the softer it puts it into drive. But yeah i’m pretty sure it does that because the engine is trying to move the car forward/back in that short time that it’s engaging drive and there’s not enough force keeping it in place. Like i said i’m almost certain that if youre able to turn your idle down that it should be a little lighter on your trans
