You got me! When you used the wrong fittings I thought it was just due to inexperience, then when you started talking about the leaks "sealing up" over time I realized that this video is posted under the "comedy" category.

Great work! I applaud your efforts greatly and this is very common for homes made during the early 50's where the plumbing systems were all cast iron. I had similar and I didn't have the benefit of a crawl space and had to move out and slide back a cast iron tub and had to use a tub drain extractor tool to get the drain fitting out of the tub. I did similar as I cut the cast iron p-trap under the tub with a special bi-metallic hacksaw blade that I ordered from Amazon. Not only was there no crawl space, it was poured cement bathroom. Honestly, I was told "Oh shit" by a local plumber! I went about attaching the plastic p-trap a different way though. I used some rust reform and coated the inside and outside of the pipe end I cut and used silicone and epoxy to bond the new p-trap onto the old iron line. I am happy to say that it all works now and I can tell from your video that you really did well and the only reason the tub filled up so fast was the water pressure was that good.

Thank you for taking the time to video your story! Made our work easier! As for removing the drain? We destroyed our 30-yr brass (thinning pipes, anyway) by using a cold chisel, working around and around the top chrome until it loosened slowly counter-clockwise, dropping the brass piece, underneath - saving us the leak you experienced at the end. I felt your pain. BTW, our cast iron p-trap broke off the the downspout - rusted through. ABS for sure! Best regards.

This guy cracked me up because I can so relate to his situation. Plumbing requires a lot of patience. I liked how you lined all the old pieces to help you calculate the measurements.

Surprisingly well filmed given the difficulty. This was very helpful

I am about to undertake a VERY similar project (down to the layout!) in my house, I wasn't sure if I needed to tear out the pipes, but seeing what your cast iron looked like has reassured me that yes, I almost certainly do.

Great video! You did a great job. You gave me the confidence to do my job. I really was worried about how hard this was going to be. I have to replace everything like you did. From the bath tub drain to the vent pipe to the drain line. Thanks for your great video.

I used 1 1/4" piping throughout the house and it never clogs up. In my opinion, you might have improved the flow far more, had you simply changed the drain in the bathtub. However, trying to make the bends in the piping "flow" and more gradual was a very good idea. I remember having read in an engineering manual somewhere, best downward flow in a pipe is achieved at an angle of around 3°.

Hey , you can use a 4 1/2" angle grinder with metal cutting wheel. Maybe for the next job, it will save you a lot of time.

Certain you have a clog from the tub drain. That sharp right angle always catches stuff. As someone else mentioned you can get an entire new drain and overflow set up and replaced that one. Use plenty of Plumbers Putty where the drain sets into the tub.

"What a bitch!" Oh man you cracked me up because I know how hard it is to crawl around under there trying to use tools. I used a zip disk on my grinder to cut all it all out. I dug under my whole basement, one bucket at a time, so I could install R25 insulation underneath, replace all the water lines with PEX and replace all the 110 year old cast iron sewer pipe to new black ABS sewer pipe. Good work and thanks for the good laugh!
