    Good job using the screws to dig in & pull the seals out. That is exactly how I got my seals out.

    Thanks for sharing this video I really appreciate you showing the inside bearings at the end no other video showed this, looks like I have one more seal left to go. I'll drill it out carefully like you did👍🏼

    Thanks for sharing...I wanted to see what it looks like as my girlfriend's is leaking...I think I'd hang it upside down from where it is even if I had to lay on my back to drill it...at least that way the gravity would be in your favor with the drill shavings.....

    The same seal is out on my 2011 chevy 2500hd. The screw trick worked on the top half of the seal, but the bottom is steel and won't budge.

    Did you get it back together? you can do this on the truck also by removing the sector shaft out the top and replacing all the seals that way. It's about the same amount of work either way.

    just take a grinding wheel and make a relief cut in the pitman arm. GM Part #26002516 (Pitman Shaft Seal Kit). GM Part #15825938 may also work too. Mine is just leaking at the pitman arm shaft so I'm not going to open up the entire box and do a full rebuild like others do.

    What is your suggested way of doing it correctly? Mine is leaking badly and I'm stumped on how to remove the seals without doing the same drilling/ screw techniques demonstrated above. In all seriousness I'd much appreciate knowing how to do this the right way!

  • @PrimitivePeter

    @Mark Magoo No worries Mark, everyone on the internet is an expert at everything ;) I watched another video by Chris Craft on here about rebuilding a saginaw power steering gear box. Long story short remove the pitman arm with a puller and remove the 4 bolts that hold it in on top of the box, whole assembly comes out and you can replace seals. Use a socket as a round punch to knock out/ press in a new bearing if you want to replace it too.

  • @PrimitivePeter

    @PrimitivePeter

    @Mark Magoo I pulled the box, it's not that hard. Had an extra one to throw in. It's only held to the frame with 3 bolts, disconnecting the steering shaft and power steering hoses are a bit more of a pain but not complicated whatsoever. Having the box out on a bench also allows for re-tightening the box to get rid of slop, there's a write-up over at thetruckstop website that covers this.
