Nice video. I’m currently doing mine on the vehicle, which is not bad, just have to remove track bar and bracket. All was well, until I reached the snap ring and it’s missing an ear. Still working on it. Just funny, cause you said, that wasn’t a problem. Lmao.

Brother man... Thank you so much for a comprehensive repair video. I was starting to talk myself out of doing this job on mine and you've managed to talk me right back into it. Thank you sir! Also, good to see I'm not the only new yorker dealing with rusty repairs on their ford lol

Thank you for posting this video! I just replaced the seal on my 96. Same concept I guess. I didn't have to replace the line and I replaced the seal while it was still attached in the truck. I'll see what leaks next lol.

Love your videos. You actually have rust. Some of these guys have zero rust and make it look way to easy...

Thanks for this. My E350 has a slow leak. I was debating whether to replace my steering box, or just change the seals. Now I know the seals are not too difficult to service, which is exactly what I was hoping for.

Thank you - this video was very helpful. I just did the same job except I put a remanufactured box in instead. Except I did it in the snow, which was packed ice by the time I was done - but cold air is good for the lungs, and in the dark with a headlamp since it’s dark by the time I’m off work. I didn’t realize how bad my steering was until I felt the new unit. Almost ready to move some snow again - just have to reassemble my plow which was getting welded while I did this job. Yee ha

I've been having an "oil leak" for a few months now. I was close to lifting my engine up to replace a gasket. Anyways, i drain & filled my power steering fluid out a few weeks ago & now my "oil leak" is now leaking red fluid. That means... i dont have an oil leak. I have a gear box leak. I guess it drips all the way back down to the bottom of my transmission. I couldnt be happier because this seems like an easy job compared to lifting my engine up. Although a redhead gearbox is expensive...

Wire brush clean the Splines., Super Clean , with a small wire brush , for drill ! Than , I always PUT Anti Seize compound, ( By Permatex) on the SPLINES, before putting the Pitman arm back on the Shaft .... Cheap insurance when to take apart for the Future .. ... .. .. IT will make LIFE easier in case of next repair .. What is Anti-Seize? Anti-seize products are applied to bolts, fasteners, flanges and other clamped interfaces to prevent galling, seizing and corrosion, as well as lubricating to ease disassembly.

Were there o-rings on the line-to-gearbox line fittings? I am putting it back together for someone, and I have no clue what it was like put together because I didn't do the disassembly. Edit: nvm, I did some more digging and see your lines are different from mine, I do not have a shoulder above the bubble flares.

Nice work. Maybe next time put some never-seize on the pittman arm splines.

Good call. I hope it doesn't have to come apart again. But if it does, I will. Thanks for watching

I think it would have a chemical effect as well as a physical one. The stuff would block out salted water from entering the spline space simply by taking up the room that the water would be in. And the chemical effect would be to arrest the rust by depriving it of further oxygen. Anyway, good video. It demonstrates that a reasonably handy guy could get it done and not get hosed by an auto shop.

It looks like I might need to pull it out soon anyways. There was a small puddle under it this morning. I think the output shaft may be too scored for the new seal to work. I have to take a closer look. Ugh

At least it will go faster this time. I wonder if when you put it back together, you put a rubber boot over the new shaft. Maybe a piece of bicycle inner tube with some zip ties around the ends, to keep salted water from running in there.
