REP Fitness Safety Strap Drop Test

Спорт

Shortly after posting my video last week about a potential issue about my J-Cups, a few posts on FB and Reddit surfaced showing a possible weld issue on the REP safety straps. I've never had an issue with mine so wanted to actually test them out to see how they'd hold up!

The image in the video is actually mine, rep has reached out to try to fix the situation. I'm not a professional welder but it seems that the welds aren't up to par on their most recent batch. They're working on it with the design team but anyone with a new batch should be aware especially with the recall they have just pushed out recently. Test your safety devices, so you don't put yourself in a sticky situation. Test dropped 135 on the straps to teach my friend how to dump weight incase he fails on the PR and this happens. It seems like rep is working on trying to make it right, so we'll see how it goes but any owner of the straps should definitely test these. Some within a couple of dumbs have seen gapping between the weld, and a test drop video showed 380 completely mauling through the straps and the whole system failing. As a consumer, this is worrying. Credit to Rep for taking a quick response, but it's going to need more than a quick response to make it right i believe.

I appreciate your honesty about being affiliated with Rep. I found a great deal on a Rogue rack, bench and GHD pre pandemic and stick with most of their products because I like everything to match in my gym. Yeah for all the issues Titan has had it seems like their customer service has basically been above and beyond everyone else. Maybe not the case a few years back, but lately like the past 2-3 years they seem to have same day, or next day response time and send you replacement items for free with no questions asked. I remember way back KZreadrs would say it took weeks to hear from them, it seems those issues are gone based on personal experience and more recent videos/reviews online. That said I’ve bought items from all 3 of these companies and have yet to really run into an issue with any of the 3. All 3 of them have been amazing for me personally. Been watching Brandon for years, before he even had a basement gym, and while I love his content and appreciate these videos even more than his older ones because I take his input seriously when considering stuff I would buy for my own gym, I’m not sure I’d call this particular video full “honesty” from him. If Titan had a failing batch of safety straps it wouldn’t be a “slight” issue. No offense to Brandon if he reads this, I love the content and keep it up. But it does feel like people never let Titan be a new company allowed to have growing pains because they didn’t like the idea of them “copying” people. However you rarely hear that complaint for any other brand other than Titan. Don’t get me wrong I know Titan had lots of issues, and they’ve copied lots of items and even faced a lawsuit because of it.. so in a way they did earn the backlash. But I feel like no matter how many people received great pieces from them the other side of that was always the loudest and their reputation was somewhat wrongfully hurt in the process. A scratched rack from Titan is “they have the worst quality control and shipping” from the big KZread names, the same thing comes in from Rogue “don’t cry about a little scratch it’s equipment it’s not meant to be pretty”.. just my observation. But like I said all my stuff from all 3 companies has been exactly as expected, so maybe I’m not the right person to give input.

@@airgordo4 have you seen what they make when they don't copy intellectual property from other companies? SSB bar 1.0 and their belt squat are prime examples. They wanted to be the bottom dollar cost company and it's really hard to break that reputation. Plus they have earned their reputation due to shotty products, shipping, service, etc. Which is also hard to break. With Rogue, Sorinex, Elite FTS, Rep, etc I'm pretty sure I'm going things will go smoothly. Titan is like playing Russian roulette. It might blow up in your face or be a good product.

Thanks for the detailed feedback. If anything I think I gave Titan more of a pass back then. I had a pair of their death straps and never made a video on it. As noted I’ve only seen 2 instances of issues with these straps but I watch enough KZread and frequent enough sites to see all the commotion. This was an easy enough test to do and I would have uploaded it even if they failed (prob would have been better for views). My original plan was to film the intro, film the drop, then film the “after”. Prob would have come off a bit better but I had to film before my kids took a nap so I did the drops first and then came back down to film the rest once they were asleep.

I got the recall e-mail from Rep about my PR-4000 straps I had only used for a few weeks. Sucks that it takes customer complaints before these type of issues are addressed, someone could have been seriously hurt. I’m happy Rep is refunding the cost, but stopped using them and purchased the Rogue monster lite version. I feel bad people who don’t have an extra pair of safeties to use in the mean time like me. Set the straps nearest to your head lower and the ones by your feet higher. You want the center of the strap to end up just at about chest level, which would make the ones by your head slightly higher

Titan gets a pass on a lot of the stuff because they are a fraction of the price of brands like Rogue, Sorinex, etc... Rep is very close to Rogue prices and their stuff is imported. So either Rep is getting taken to the cleaners by their manufacturer, or Rep is taking their customers to the cleaners by not passing the cheaper cost of production to the end user.

Here is my issue with rep fitness. I know your most like I sponsored but I don’t think they’re a good value. If I wanted something cheap and durable it’s hard to beat Titan. If I want some great quality I’d go with rogue. Reps quality isn’t much above Titan and the price isn’t much lower than rogue. I don’t think I’d buy anything from them. I’d choose Titan or spend a few more on rouge. Rouges resale would make it a no brainer. I do appreciate your channel tho just not a rep fan.
