Get any so you are safe. Then later you can upgrade to one ones you want.

I prefer the straps. Like most people will tell you about the range of motion, you can also be more accurate on where you want your bar to fall. When I’m squatting I elevate the front straps so the bar will fall back when I fail. When I’m benching, I can accurately adjust the straps so it would fit in the groove between my chest and my chin (neck area). And I find it easier to adjust… anywho, great video! Thank you!

I have and prefer my Safety Straps because they allow me to have a better range of motion, especially when benching. If I fail a rep I'm not failing to the point where the weight I'm lifting is crashing down on me.

Okay makes sense. Do you do Deadstop Pin Presses with the straps?

No, too much slack. That's when the Flip-Down and Pin-Pipe Safeties prove their value.

Okay that’s what I was trying to say in the video. I think Safety straps are cool but I want something that doesn’t yield if I’m doing Anderson squats or Pin Presses. TBH I prefer pipe style safeties for Andersons simply because of the weight. Flip down safeties don’t seem to be as durable as pipe safeties for anything over 500lbs.

I have the flip down power rack safeties and prefer the those. It’s basically like an adjustable crossmember. I think it’s the best of both worlds. They are Ridgid and easier to adjust than pin & pipes, but also have UHMW on top to protect bars.

I have flip down and pipe safeties but honestly it’s only because the flip down safeties say #garagegymlife otherwise I would probably have stuck with pipe safeties. Is protecting the bar the main reason you got the flip down safeties?

Fair enough. There’s a definite demographic that’s motivated to train in something that’s aesthetically pleasing so if that’s you, it makes sense to keep everything looking fresh!

I prefer Safety Straps for Squats and Spotter Arms for Bench Press. I would only use Pin/Pipe for Pin Presses, rack pulls, dead press, anderson squat, etc.

Makes sense and it further unpacks what you said in the video. 👍

Great points about safety straps. I hate that they interact with your lift. I’ve relied on pin and pipe for a more consistent reliable safety mechanism.

I think straps have some good points in certain applications but a flip down safety is my favorite option followed by pin and pipe safeties. Thanks for commenting and stop by again soon!

I perfer safety straps for bench and rack work because they offer me adjustability in getting the right height for the safety. For squats, and Good Mornings I prefer Spud Suspension straps.

I think a lot of older home gym owners go that route because it’s what we’re used to. How long have you been lifting?
