We started putting the ARES together according to the instructions. When we got to “Step 7”, with nothing fully tightened, only hand tight, parts # 25-0300 & 25-0296, would not fit into place. They are to long. After measuring them, they are 17” in length. If you forward to the 5:15 seconds - 6:00 minute mark, you will notice these parts slip right into place on the video, but not so much for us. So come to find out, that top back brace piece, needed to be rotated 180 degrees and all went well after. Since I'm a real jack ass, I found out the hard way. Maybe your a fellow jack ass and so maybe this will help my fellow jackasses. Thanks!

This was a pleasure to put together. I'm not sure how long it took since I didn't do it all at once. Probably 4-5 hours but I took my time and didn't need any help. Easy enough to stop and pick back up again to complete when I had time. The cabling was very intuitive once I dove into it. The pulleys are slick and quiet in use (more than I even hoped). Just a beautiful piece of equipment. A work of art.

Just finished my Ares over Christmas, just wanted to say thank you so much for this video. There is 0% chance i would have been able to get this up by myself without it. Good job bros, i wish i could by you both a beer. For anyone else building this monster, when you get to step 12, please please choose the correct cable, and not have to redo like an hour of work (for my first attempt). As it is painfully obvious in retrospect, i didn't notice the upper and lower cables are different. Additionally, i have to say i hit my head on the REP logo plate approximately 47 times over the course of this build

Just ordered a 36 mm socket, 36 mm wrench and a 24 mm wrench. I already had the 17 mm wrench and 17 & 24 mm sockets. Now I just need the hardware. Since I bought a 6 post rack with Ares, I will just put together the Ares and rear 4 post first before I install the 30" crossmembers. I will then install the front columns with pulleys attached. I have watched this video several times in anticipation of receiving my Ares and PR 5000. Old rack is sold. I can see this being more difficult if the rack has to be closer to the wall. The instructions state that a 19 mm wrench is also needed, but I did not see one used in the video. Now that my Ares has been shipped, I will be able to put it together from memory at this point, LOL.

Just built my ARES over the weekend and all in all it was an AWESOME experience...this video is a huge help. @repfitness heads up you may want to include an FAQ that mentions the ARES isn't compatible with the Compact Logo Plate. The cross member still works fine but the compact logo plate must be removed. This isn't a big deal...but If I got a cart alert when i purchased both at the same time I could have saved a few bucks. My only other issue was the folder with weight stack upgrade instructions and stickers either didn't make the pallet or got lost along the way. I'd recommend mailing that or including it inside a box. I contacted customer service and I'm sure you guys will get me stickers quick. LOVE THE ARES and the packing was exceptional. Update: Rep responded to my support request in less that 12 hours and has setup a back order for the upgrade plate stickers. :)

How do you do pull downs in the 5000 Ares? I have yet to see a video of how you keep your butt down when lifting heavyweight. If a leg roller is the answer, I do not see how it would work. The Ares would stick out behind you due to the leg roller being attached evenly to the inside of the rack. Is there a pas the is compatible with the 5000 that would push the leg roller back, so that you would be behind where the lat pulldown bar is hanging vs in front of it?

Always worth having the lat/low row built into your rack, unless you didnt use it very much on your Ares. Having the Ares doubles as both whereas the Athena will only be a functional trainer and be harder to do the lat movements and low rows. The Ares 2.0 is definitely worth the upgrade!!

This is my first Rep purchase, and so far, it hasn't gone well. I love the design of the Ares but haven't been able to use it yet do to what I think is a quality control issue. I've been working with the support team but haven't resolved the issue yet. The logo plate crossmember wasn't in my initial delivery so that caused a delay and now the upper pulley assemblies seem to be the wrong length. I'm posting here to see if anyone else is having the same issue. The Ares attachment depth is 16 inches but the upper pulley assemblies I received are 17 inches. I can make them fit, but this causes the logo plate crossmember to bow and requires a lot of force to tighten all the bolts. The initial response from the support team recommended I watch this video, the upper pulley assemblies in this example fit fine but mine will not fit between the two upper crossmembers as shown here. Hopefully Rep will resolve my issue by sending pulley assemblies that are the correct dimensions but waiting for them to confirm what they will do for me.

I have this ordered already, but my only concern is having to connect two carabiners for lat pull down and low row. Can you use a triangle row attachment and connect to only one weight stack? Does it have to be connected to two weight stacks? We need more clear demonstration on this. I feel like the best route to go would be to get the selectorized lat pull down and low row, which is a more traditional single carabiner pulley system and also add on the new Athena cable attachment. The only downside I see with the selectorized lat pull down and low row is that it adds 10inches to the depth. Also it would be a bit more expensive going this route.

  • @markhalstead2386

Using only one side on low row will result in you pulling the weight from an angle as the attachment would be to your right or left. Best to use a banana to connect the two sides and then connect your triangle to the banana. I'm sure Rep will chime in, but (1) you do not have to use both stacks simultaneously, though using one at a time may cause you not to be aligned with the rack ideally, and (2) it comes with what they call the "banana", a piece of steel that connects to the two carabiners and has a single attachment point in the middle, which will allow you to use both weight stacks with only one attachment point for the accessory. If you only want to use single attachment accessories, I'm sure Rep would sell you a second banana to keep one on the top and one on the bottom.

Thanks for the responses. This next question is probably for @Rep Fitness to respond since no one has it yet. So if I were to use the banana attachment, does both the weight stack have to be set on the same amount of weight? Or can I just, for example, use 50lbs on the left weight stack and the right weight stack is set to the lowest? If we could do this, will it affect the weight distribution (will it feel heavier on the left side when using a traditional lat pull down bar)?
