Renovating a Stone Cabin in an Olive grove in the French Mountain - 01
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This is the first timelapse of the renovation of a Stone cabin, builded in an old olive grove abandonned for decades.

That is a sweet excavator. Wonderful that you could turn to a friend to put it back into working order. What a great location. The journey on the two lane highway through the rock tunnels was thrilling. If you know anyone who does wood turning, the big olive tree stump you dug out would make a magnificent bowl. Also, I think there may have been some logs that were big enough to cut into lumber on a band mill/ Olive wood of that size is special. It looked as though the olive trees you removed had never been pruned as an orchard. That was a good decision to rejuvenate the orchard.
Bravo, formidable !

A beautiful setting, and a great structure, with well-skilled work, and what a great group of friends you have. Also enjoyed your background music too. You are another "Renaissance Man", and despite the time lapse, one can see you have a good peaceful rhythm and a true feeling for the land. I laud your desire to rejuvenate the olive growing biome, and hope you will consider a multi-biome versus an olive monoculture. The terraces would make nice layouts for perennial natural flowers, some nitrogen fixers, as well as a friendly kitchen garden. To a good life!

I know for the trees, it was really the main question at the beginning. Do i let it raw or do i cut most of them to bring back olive tree to lives. And my love for olive trees won. I know its gonna be long but there will be so many trees and plants in the futur and of course i keep all this wood that I cut to burn it in the cabin in winter. I also tryied to keep some big parts so maybe I will do big piece of wood in it as construction material for the house.

Good thinking to remove the stump and roots. I had a corner of my driveway collapse 15 years after it was built. The contactor buried stumps as fill as if "who will know?". I almost broke an axle when I rode over it and the spot disappeared beneath my tires
The tiers in the land help to prevent erosion. I fear that where you have removed the stone walls to make the path ways will erode with heavy rainfall.
@kevdaud
Жыл бұрын
I understand what you say, we will see with the time but I'm not sure, there has already been big rainfall and for the moment nothing moved. The tiers are here because of the natural relief, I think they had no choice. Time will tell but I hope you are wrong 😅

@@kevdaud water won't absorb when it's running, it has to stand to be absorbed. The soil will dry out over time and become hard and the water will absorb less and less. You can use the cut logs to create berms to allow the rain water to stand and absorb. The logs break down over time and add organic matter to the soil to keep it nourished and viable and the rain waiter absorbs much faster.

Another machinery addict .. to be honest I didn't like the video - using heavy equipment, burning tons of fuel and making so much noise for such simple landscaping is a bit "too much" .. but I understand that some guys today just have no idea how to use a good old shovel, wheelbarrow and rake to make things happen :)) Best of luck with your project!

I totally agree with you. We could all live like 200 years ago when they first builded thoses terraces with maybe less tools than what you said, and also share those videos via homing pigeon or whatever. No joke. The only difference is that they were probably 20 or 30 mens working here, and if my memories are clear a few prisonners. Today, I'm alone 99% of the times, I have one hour drive to come and one hour more to leave, and a whole house and its land to renovate and take care of. I don't really want to add a fourth herniated disc or another broken lumbar vertebra to my personnal record. Thats the reason why I decided to go with the digger, and the truck, and the cordless tools powered by battery, and I write this comment from a smartphone which is maybe even worst for the planet than the few gallons of fuel that I've used for the digger, and maybe so you did. Time is precious, and I don't want to spend 2 years and hurt my body more than it already is, for something that could be done more easily in a few thanks to a machine that I personnaly love to drive. But I do respect people Who made the choice to work the old hard way, and there is a lot of those People here on KZread with primitive construction channel. Once again, I dont say that my opinion is the truth, But I just wanted to share my point of view with you like you did it with me. Thanks for your comments and for viewing despite of our different point of view.

Your going to drive over that electric cord you laid down on your road. Seriously?? Putting it on the side rather than on the top, where you will drive over it, will eventually ruin it
