They left for city. Offspring came back to restore farmstead
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
It's the story of millions of families who fled to cities for work generations ago, then feeling the call of the old land. The Laboroi family returned to the Graian Alps to revive their old intergenerational barnhouse.
In 1940, the Laboroi family moved into a housebarn in Italy’s Graian Alps that was big enough for the five family members, as well as their goats, cows and chickens and hay. Being able to fit everything under one roof was a luxury that meant no one needed to go outside to work with the animals during cold, snowy winters.
Eighty years later, the Laboroi’s still live in the mountains - unlike many other farmers from the area who moved to the city in the ‘60s and ‘70s -, but they wanted to restore the original stone housebarn which had been covered in cement plaster by the previous generation. Andrea Laboroi and architect
Davide Querio decided to turn the abandoned stables into bedrooms and open up a huge picture window in the former hayloft to provide the living room with a view of the alps, valley, Gran Paradiso National Park, and even a waterfall.

They certainly put a bit more resources than you but the place has a lot of similarities with yours. Thanks for checking in. We're glad things are going alright since we visited a few months ago.
They put a LOT of thought into this! Wow, modern upgrades, respect to the history, AND the views of the Alps. I think perhaps the grandparents would have approved of their efforts 100%.
Wow. That house is a treasure. Breathtaking. Tastefully done. Bravo 👏🏻 👏🏻👏🏻

Wow! Breath taking! What an amazing adventure you had to bring back life in your 🏡. Breath taking views! I love the quilt that was made and preserved from your grandparent ❤️
It is so good to see old buildings coming back to life.

Repurposing "old" buildings to current needs is one of the most underrated practices in our current real estate paradigm. As an Architect with 40+ years of "professional" experience where the "knock-down /re-build" unsustainable ideology trumps economicly sustainable solutions (many times knocking down something to rebuild similar just because it would be a "new" building ~ sole destroying) of repurposing /refurbishing /revitalisation of a run-down /worn-out out /aging building, is environmentally /ethically /self-affirming, yet is strenuously resisted because it is so
“There is a future with the past…” Bravissimo!
"there is a future with the past" I really liked that ❤️ couldn't be more true
Love that you updated your grandparents home. Imagine how they worked so hard to build that place out of stone. You did a great job updating. Looks fantastic 🙋♀️❤ enjoy 🥰
Beautifully renovated and what a spectacular view! The family seemed charming too, I enjoyed this video very much :)
Much respect to the tradesmen, owners, craftsmen doing the work. These places are national treasures.
Bellissimo! Love old stone buildings. And that Italian accent; I could listen to that man talk all day :)

In English and Italian!
When you said this looks like something out of a painting, I thought exactly the same. It is fantastic the Owners studied about light’s and how to incorporate history with present. Just gorgeous!
I was there in Italy...living there at Torino... And many times comes there....bellissimo posto per stare tranquilli.

I do this and flip houses.
Because of Turin's Winter Olympic Games, in 2006 I had to sell my grandmother's house. It is something I will always regret in my life but I hadn't money to restore it and I was forced to sell it. It's so beautiful to me to see someone had the chance to save such a piece of memory in a such respectfull way. Thank you ever so much for sharing such a beautiful experience Kirsten

What, they said your grandmas house was too ugly to be near the Olympics?? That’s messed up lol In America the government can force you to sell as well tho so I’m aware of the concept.

I love how they respect the original _spirit_ of the housebarn. Simply divine and the view is just breathtaking.
Such a beautiful, sensitive restoration. The views are immense. If I was an animal, I would not want such a huge cow bell.
And I would also pay good money to see a video of the actual reconstruction/renovation of the house and HOW they did all that work. Simply amazing and inspiring. Now if I could just win Powerball or the National Lottery....
“There is a future with the past.” I love this.
Many thanks for sharing this lovely home 😁❤️
Wonderful job. Like he said at the end, he has taken the past and connected it with the present and made it ready for the future!
They have restored a beautiful house with such wonderful views of the mountains and valley below.
That view is breathtaking 😍😍
That place absolutely RULES. Totally love it 😍
my wishes were fulfilled, still need more old houses from the italian/swiss alps!
What a wonderful gift for the next generation. Shows much respect for the history AND attention to comfort needed to live comfortably too.
I think that was my favorite house you have ever featured. My dream house
Questo è il modo di restaurare una antica casa pastorale. Complimenti allo studio che ha ristrutturato meravigliosamente.
I like everything about the place. The care of restoration, the interior and of course the views. It's like looking at a painting everyday.
The sights and sounds evoke the scents, the grandeur of nature as well as historical preservation. I have to catch my breath and give thanks for your bringing us to yet another marvel of lifestyles past and future.
Thank you so much for this! My grandmother‘s family was from Locana and I imagine their home was very similar.
I would love to be there and work from home. Beautiful!
the view is incredible!
Love the way they play "hide and seek" with the light throughout this beautiful house. So, the house's lumen wouldn't overpower the spectacular view outside.
Absolutely spectacular!! Kirsten, you've done it AGAIN! Jaw-droppingly beautiful!
Absolutely beautiful I love this
That final piece of music, the ringing bells of the goat ! Awesome !!
As much as anything, I think your business and your ability to expose your children to all these different homes, homesteads, gardening… Must be the most amazing education… To say nothing of having fun. Great videos by the way!
Wonder what their building codes are like and how would it fare in a decent earthquake ? Yes rural people sometimes leave for the big city and bright lights and the promise they think it hold only to find what they left behind was far better for the soul. Waylon Jennings sang a song called "Where Corn Don't Grow" , give it a listen , tells a story of leaving their country home for a better life in the city only to find after years of city toil and struggle that the life they left behind was better for your soul . 🤗

Awww…. So sad. But I blame the government for this tragedy. Farming life pays very little … plus education and basic infrastructure in rural areas is limited and at times nonexistent. The government in many countries around the world is the one to be blame for the farmers exodus. Now 30, 40 years later …. We see that the government is trying to create programs to bring people back into rural areas but it’s been difficult to achieve. So what’s the new plan? Well, the new plan is to place immigrants/refugees from Africa, Afghanistan, Haiti, Syria etc in rural areas of Italy. And so in my opinion this comes with some negative outcomes…like the disappearance of a culture and a way of life. A land full of individuals with a lifestyle, culture and traditions that don’t pay tribute to the real roots of an specific area. To me that’s another major tragedy. Thanks to the mistakes of corrupted and greedy politicians. Ps: I’ll be searching for the song.

That area in the seismic map of Italy, is classified as ''low risk''. Clearly that house are not built according to resist to quakes, the roof should be supported by pillars not linked to side walls.

@@bibit3856 LOL that's the point! it doesn't HAVE to pay a lot. Just enough, and it is much cheaper to live there and make/ grow your own. yes, it's sad to bring people of very incompatible cultures there. But if they are Christians at least, it is more tolerable. As opposed to other religion which can be a conflict.
Beautiful home… and that view ❤️
a beautiful restoration, with magnificent views.
Absolutely stunning! Thank you for sharing!
Fantasic job revealing the beauty of those stone walls.

Nononono, hermosa casa, que buena visión, amazing hoyse, beatiful!!!.
Awesome location, great building, minimal modern aesthetics, super residence.
Wow! The views!
I like how your videos felt like we are there with you. Thank you for this tour! Amazing!
A very tastefully executed rendition of their original ancestral home.
love all that stone, in those old villages and farms. people should do more of this in our country in the hills. As DIY.
One of the best renovations I’ve seen. Perfect combination of old and new. The lighting is spectacular and very classy.
just beautiful brings back my childhood memories in italy ,my zio did this too his place is just gorgeous
Me encanta. Es precioso y auntentico y me emociona. Creo que hay algo que me conecta a lo ancestral en estos videos de renovacion de edificios rurales antiguos que mantenienen la esencia. Y vuestro trabajo docugrafico contribuye, por supuesto.
Another great find…the location…views are priceless….of course the stone and timber…indirect lighting…the maim room view captures eternity,,,thanks…stay safe,,,………where are the kids?
My great grandparents came from that area. What an amazing place. Reminds me of Falling Water in Pennsylvania.
This is awesome. Thank you for putting this together and sharing!
The views are just stunning. I lived at the foot of the southern Sierra Nevada in California for 34 years, I never tire of seeing the mountains, the view never gets old.
ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO, KIRSTEN!!!! Do take care. Fl., U.S.A.
Absolutely beautiful. Their ancestors would be so happy and proud
Very nice and well done. One my Ardennes house from 1860, i have the same kind of roof tiles. Also the walls are like yours. You gave me some very nice ideas. Ciao.
What a beautiful home!
Such natural beauty ❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful video (thanks!) and stunning renovation! At the minute 13 there is a mistake, as they clearly say "milleduecento metri" which is 1200 meters, not 1800 as written.
marvelous, a gift - thanks for sharing it
It's really nice with awesome views.
i love that idea of just... oh my land is full of rocks, ok i will spend some years building a gigantic building & home outof those rocks, Tada! I wonder how many man-hours their grandparents (& family/community?) spent building that original home outof nothing. So inspiring, we could do anything with time.
I like the part of your video where people switch back to their language from English. It gives an extra layer to the atmosphere. Great video again!
The views are majestic and the house, well. I want to live in it now...
I love inside and outside the house. Inside the house is so amazing with the store walls. That is so beautiful
simply beautiful
So beautyful place with scenes.
