Building a stone and wood survival bushcraft shelter in the woods
This video features my construction of a stone-cum-wood shelter in a beautiful far-off forest. The biggest challenge in building this shelter was to collect stones from a seasonal creek a short distance away. It took me a great deal of time; it was time consuming and labour-intensive.
What’s more, there was a tree-dwelling squirrel which not only walked away with my food-stuffs from time to time but also disturbed my sleep in the night. Typically feeding on nuts and seeds, it had sensed edibles down in my camp and couldn't resist. Whenever I would go to collect stones or bring logs, I would have been apprehensive about the squirrel.
Once the walls were completed, I cut logs from fallen trees and then put the roof on the shelter. I used pebbles to cover the small gaps between logs; mortared, and then spread dried leaves of pine on it. Next, I put a tarpaulin and covered it with leaves of spruce tree. After that, I put mud on the leaves and gave the shelter a flat surface.
Meanwhile, the weather turned bad and it began to snow. I made a door for the shelter in haste; it wasn't perfect and substantial, I think. While I was putting a door bolt, a snowstorm hit out of nowhere. A seemingly unending stream of snowfalls started and disrupted my work. I was not only to make some necessary works inside the shelter but to build a second roof on it as well.
Moreover, I was running low on food because some of it had been stolen by squirrels. So I reached a decision to leave for now. Once the snow clears, I will go back and carry out the remaining work.

yes, Scientists sent that squirrel there for a very important experiment.
Finally, a great video of constructing a shelter without showing how to cook a meal. Thank you.

Wow...just wow! That has got to be the best use of natural resources that's in the area and it looks amazing! And it looks different, more solid. And no cooking!! Thank you. Can hardly wait to see what you do next.😊

Thanks for watching. Next I plan to put a second roof on it and live there for some time. Still there’s heavy snow and all the logs I had cut off are buried. Once the snow clears, I will go back to complete the remaining work.

Very beautifull build in a nice place...
I grew up in California and hiked and camped throughout the Sierra Nevadas. The sugar pine (Pinus lambertiana) is unique to the Sierras and into parts of Oregon. It is lovingly embraced within your cabin! ❤

Love the overall design. Making me think of dwarves; "rock and stone" and all that . . . BTW, I am a bit concerned about the slope of your roof; it may be too shallow. Would hate for all that stone and wood to collapse on your head during a heavy snowstorm.
@thinkwilderness

Thanks for your concern, I appreciate it. However, the walls and roof are solid enough to withstand heavy snowfalls and storms. The slopes are that way because I plan to put a second roof on the shelter in coming days.

An incredible cabin made with stones in the middle of the forest! I believe that, due to the thickness of the walls, it should be well heated in winter and quite cool in summer. Greetings from Brazil

Het ziet er sterk en solide uit. Veel werk maar met resultaat.👍
amazing--and clever
I would love to see this in person

Maybe make door double thickness for insulation - it’s the weak point.
Tremendous structure
Should have taken the bark of the trees, now they will rot very quickly

Bro we need a second floor, heating, and finishing off the inside as well as the front.
wow...
Why didn't you build a fireplace and chimney, while building the walls to your shelter? It would have been far more comfortable, with some warmth. A fireplace is no more difficult to build, than a rock wall... Probably easier.

@@ellas88 yeah, one has to be patient while building a shelter in the forest. It’s not easy and takes a great deal of time and effort.
He tries so hard to build such a good and strong object and in the end he gets a mud roof that only brings moisture and rots the supporting wood !!!
@ Building a stone and wood survival shelter
So much wasted talent. You guys of the „I built a fortress in the wilderness, without an axe, without a tent, without clothes, without food, in heavy rainstorm and deadly blizzards“ type, you should build cities in civilization. That would be much more interesting. Bushcraft videos? OMG.
Very bad video.
Super unnecessary and excessive expenditure of wood!! This is called wasting resources, and having very little respect for nature.
possibly to stand there for a very long time. 🏚
