    @@hmarci Testing has started in earnest. I have expanded your tests to include Vegas 15 and will test 17 at the end of the week when it comes out on the 5th. Also threw Corel Video Studio into the mix. AND also each using IntelQSV, AMD RX580, nVidia GTX 1070 and the new 5700XT from AMD where possible. Sneak-peak spoiler alert, my Intel 8700K with the nearly identical RX580/8GB rendered your files with the LUT in 03:53 in Vegas 16 - against your 04:46 time! Can you tell me what settings you picked in the MainConcept test for Vegas, So I can get a CPU-CPU comparison of that.? The only thing I cannot test accurately is Resolve as the freebee version does not include and HW acceleration it seems...

  • @hmarci

    @hmarci

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@howtosandreviews5316 Wow, sounds exciting! But are you talking about your QSV results? That might be a difference between the special HW accelerator chip, and not the CPU power. If I'm not mistaken, you can also choose AMD VCE with your Radeon cards, since that chip is in the GPU and not the CPU. So you can also do a different level of comparisons between the two acceleration methods! :D So geeky, but I love it. For MainConcept, I believe I chose the Internet 4K 2160p 25 fps preset, if I remember correctly.

    Great video, thanks! I bought Movie Studio (for me it's the same as Vegas Pro in terms of UI and rendering performance) frankly by accident, but now I am more than happy. I was shocked how fast it renders. Or the other way around: I was shocked, how other software is slow in rendering. If you seek for a software that will help you to work quickly and you need to edit and upload your material fast - there is no better option than Vegas / Movie Studio. And it's not expensive either!

    With the latest version of Pinnacle Studio 23 Ultimate, LUT's, scopes and color grading/correction tools that border on professional. Exporting hardware does support Intel/Nvidia and AMD graphics. I also use Vegas Pro 17 Suite. While rendering/exporting is one part of video editing, timeline performance doing the actual editing is what I look for. Vegas is way fast in timeline editing. Pinnacle Studio 23, not as fast, but for the price on sale, it offers a lot of bang for the buck. True the trial version lacks just about everything, but Pinnacle gives you 30 days to use the full version with money back if not for you.

    Thank you! How do you mean? Is there a way to render straight through AMC or you render in Vegas first and reencode later? Because I do the latter with Resolve, since you can't set up a high bitrate in h.264, so I render Cineform or something like that, and reencode in AMC. Vegas lets you customize everything, so I never needed to do that.

    From my experience, the best setup for video editors on windows is using intel processor with quicksync and an nvidia gpu with CUDA. I'm only familiar with fcpx, davinci resolve and adobe premiere on both mac and pc. If you use nvidia card with davinci resolve studio, it can push up to 100% gpu usage using nvidia hardware acceleration. The free version of davinci resolve dont have the option though. For premere pro and AE, its still favours raw cpu power. The hardware acceleration option will use quicksync. You can use Daniel2 plugin to accelerate h264/h265 export using nvidia gpu.

    I am in the process of switching from Magix pro 10 to Edius Pro 9.5. Almost all my editing is in multi-cam mode. Magix has been horrible for playback, importing is very slow, and render times are generally 1.9 the length of the video. On my system playback in Edius is extremely fluid. You may want to look at the system settings, because you can specify which GPU to use.

    I've used PowerDirector ever since 2011 ish and think it's the best but I've found it depends what O/S you have and whether you disable the Antivirus or not Plus opening up task manager and stopping all services that are not needed and it does make a difference. The 16 minute video home movie I just produced on my channel had an absolute ton of specific effects from the video editor itself and if you put a gazillion of those on the editing timeline it will triple or quadruple the time it takes to edit and produce but I tried a trial of Pinnacle studio 26 and I try to edit my top Gun gladiator home movie in 4K maximum and it just couldn't do it an hour later it was struggling but funnily enough I have Pinnacle studio 19 and that breezed through it so I actually used two editors to create the adrenaline top Gun gladiator movie but overall I think power director for me at least is the winner all around but I do not agree and will not pay a monthly fee to borrow their software. I tried avid media composer on a trial in conjunction with Sibelius first and Pro tools first and I found the whole setup to be so bloated and I have tried them in the past and the problem with avid is that there is so much red tape BS and bureaucracy in contacting home that often you can't even get the blooming thing loaded because it is just infatuated with contacting home so I didn't even get started with that. I do have DaVinci resolve but never got around to that and I tried some of the old corel video editors but they didn't offer 4K and Corel refused to give me a trial as apparently I had already had a 30-day trial earlier this year but I was too unwell so screw corel and as for Sony Vegas I actually bought that way back maybe 2012 ish and then when Magix took it over I lost access to my software so in effect they have robbed me of 100 bucks or whatever it was so anyway like I say antivirus and other software can seriously interfere and I have an Acer Nitro 5 with Intel, 3 x 2TB SSD and 32 Gig Ram and quad core but for the future I'm going to incorporate a variety of video editors on each project I do whether it be music or fun tribute movies. I'm not a professional and I'm not prepared to pay a monthly fee for 365 and I personally believe that this new borrowing and paying monthly is the new way for companies to ensure a wage in an ever increasing and competitive software market and it's like asking a teenager whether they want to have a rental car for the rest of their lives I mean personally I like to think that I own the software that I pay money for but I have lost money three times with companies that have disappeared or sold out or whatever so it's a bit of a tempestuous and a very costly pastime unless of course you're a professional earning lots of money with your movies but none of my movies are monetized by myself so I just have to make the best of what I can find. There was one video editor in your list that I never heard of .. Ebius or something ? I'll check that out. Thanks for the video tips, appreciated, have a fabulous week

    It’s worth noting that if you are using the free version of Resolve, timeline playback isn’t GPU accelerated when using mp4 files. Also, the newer studio version features GPU hardwware export/encode for all 3 technologies (AMD VCE, Intel Quick Sync and Nvidia’s NVENC) when creating H.264 and H.265 files. Also, a 100% free and open source editor is Shotcut. Over the years it’s become very stable, has a powerful feature set and can produce high quality professional results. GPU exports are also supported (which isn’t the case for the free version of Resolve) and I recommend it to people who don’t have powerful hardware or Macs running FCP X.

    Avid is the best NLE out there, it is different, you always transcode while importing OR just link the footage.a NLE is not about how fast it renders, but also how responsive the timeline is and stability is the main point here with avid, it is rock stable, it shine when you import 1000 hours of footage, its probably not suited for youtubers. :) I like your video, thanx for sharing. keep them coming. :) BTW you forgot the Lightworks 14.5 a speedy NLE. :)

    Resolve is definitely making waves but would you trust a 200 million movie on it? Its harder for Avid to make changes as they stay backwards compatible. You can open a project from 10 yrs ago and edit like it was a new project. They have to stay loyal to broadcast and film companies so yea they are slow on new features. Not to say that Avid doesn't have bugs but overall the stability of avid is key. Once resolve becomes more stable as an editing program it is possible for them to take over.I like resolve and slowly making my move over. I probably won't give up my on my Avid. And there is a free version of MC, they are trying to attract the new generation.

    I Googled exactly "Filmora vrs Premier Pro rendering time" and the first link is your video. And no Filmora. I paid and have Filmora for 6-7 years now but the lack of fancy options like motion tracking is pushing me toward Premier Pro. But the huge deal breaker is rendering time and size of the video. I made two same videos in Filmora and in After effects, Filmora 220 MB (1080HD crisp clean), AE 1.2 GB, same quality. Filmora 5 minutes, AE 30 minutes or maybe more, I went to make popcorn. Any info on that? Thank you. And, please, I put all my money 2016 into this PC so I can use it until retirement, will it explode if I put all Adobe programs on him? Intel(R) Core(TM) ¡5-6400 CPU @ 2.70GHz 2.70 GHz RAM 32.0 GB; NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti; ASRock B150 Pro4/3.1, Kingston V300 240GB SSD, SATA.

    Well, I didn't mention Filmora anywhere in the description, but someone in the comments did I think. If they are the same codec, the file size difference comes from different bitrates. For 1080p h.264, 20 or even 10 Mbps is perfectly fine and yields a good looking result, but you can still render a lot bigger file with no apparent benefits if you want to. But in your case I think you might be using different codecs? Don't forget that Premiere and After Effects are not the same software! One is for editing, one is for VFX and compositing. So don't expect good results in After Effects. I don't know how far you are from retirement, but this config will handle 1080p footage just fine and could last you several years. It will handle every Adobe software. However, I'm not sure if the GPU can run Resolve, but try it and if it can, use that. It's just better.

    @@hmarci After watching your video and a bunch of others I decided to go with Resolve. The test on the beggining told me PC is OK, but I still have to make some projects to find out. I have 30-40 years till retirement :) officially, but if I do my job well during this year I could retire early. If you would be kind and tell me what is the biggest problem with my configuration? When I was buying I asked to give me something that will not be garbage in 10 years.

Just started getting familiar with Resolve, coming from all versions of Vegas, and I have to say it isn't as intuitive as I hoped it would be. Some features are clunky and some pretty cool. I miss the auto crossfades that Vegas has including the velocity envelopes, wish those features would be standard in every NLE.

(those will be multi camera coverage). all I used to import and work with several sequences and finally I nest it for it's export. the final output will be mostly around three hours long sometimes. that for I spend one and half hours to render with intel quick sync export. that is inbuilt graphics card of my i5 motherboard. For my regular editing I have Nvidia Graphics card GTX 1650. it is not supporting to export its hardware rendering with edius. Not knowing the reason. I'm trying to edit approximately 230 hours of multi cam footage. I tried Video Pro X as the sync works great but it wouldn't even playback. Vegas keeps crashing. Adobe Premier only shows software export, hardware disabled. My hardware is AMD 2700, 2600. GPU RX480 and RX580. Also have an Intel 8700 with 1070. The AMD renders faster and smoother than the Intel though on all but the Adobe export. Video editing sucks. It's common knowledge AMD gives better quality on GPU renders yet Nvidia pays the devs to do CUDA instead of proper OpenCL.

    @@hmarci I am breaking them. Thing is I had 3 permanent cameras fitted to my plane. I recorded 6 hours per day. For almost 12 days for circumnavigating the country. Now the edit...I used Premiere years ago and made the switch to Vegas due to its speed during the editing process. I currently manually sync and man it's time consuming. The one camera records for 30 mins then creates new file, the other 20 and 15... So am desperate to find a app that works. As I retail PC hardware I have my choice of components. The AMD platform tends to give the best experience in terms of CPU and GPU. Fwiw the 480 kills the 1070 on Vegas' optimised presets. It's only FHD but Magix Pro 10 falls over. As a sidenote the ADATA X11 Gamix is a great investment over your Samsung SSD. Also with AMD boards you don't lose a SATA port. Intel you do...when using NVMe. Ps thanks for doing this comparison I recognise and commend the effort into making the above video!
