I've watched this video a ton of times, and each time I appreciate something new. The detail Ren puts into his music and his videos is amazing -- for example, when he's staggering like Frankenstein's monster as the beat drops, every staggering step lands perfectly on the kick drum. It's so satisfying. My absolute favorite scheme is "the kiddie with a black heart" section, which is some kind of insane genius scheme. This is a rap rap masterclass.

Fun fact: they found the pink wheelchair they used for Hi Ren while filming here! Also, at the beginning when he says “Blind, I design rhymes…” it may be a callback to a previous song (Blind Eye) as he has a habit of putting callbacks in his lyrics to earlier songs.

If you pay attention in the beginning, whenever the the electronic beat drops during the Frankenstein reference, he takes steps to the beat while rapping off beat. This while not messing up the flow or lyrics. Thats what I see and its total skill.

Fuck yes! One of my favourites along with Crutch. Two completely different tracks, but that just says a lot about Ren’s range. This is Ren flexing his ass off. But with depth. He is letting us know where he is coming from and how it affects his rapping. And he is a BEAST!

I really loved your breakdown and you teased out a bunch of things I hadn’t or hadn’t heard before. Well done! One thing : “Kiddie with a black heart” is echoed in Illest of Our Time with the line “A kiddie called Screech”, so he did reference Screech in the set of bars you though the mention would have made sense to fall. I missed the Cypher scheme you nailed and I totally ignored the candy bar bar scheme. Smart! I watched another reaction where a rapper totally trashed this one from Ren and said it was child’s stuff because it was all filler for rhymes. I knew he was cynically trash-talking instead of authentically reacting to the piece with an interest in analysis, but you pegged multiple overlapping schemes and references right at the point where this guy delivered his verdict and I appreciate that like a whole hog bbq! Yeah! Thanks!

What is Frankenstein's Monster? A creature made of a bunch of other creatures stitched together to make one monstrous whole. What is the Hunger? A rap made up of over half a dozen different flows and schemes stitched together to make one monstrous whole. As the man said: "Blind, I design rhymes, intertwined, double time - Genuine Frankenstein - I made a monster." It's a pretty chaotic track but the dude gives you a thesis statement in the first few bars :)

You did it again the vibe be real on the streets with receipts banging it out with Ren's The hunger thanks so much you make the days flow by with vigar and completes!

Notice the colors of the smoke when he talks about homegrown. His home - he's Welsh - the flag of Wales is green and red!

Love your reactions anyway, but this one was extra great! You have done his stuff in a good order so far. I think The Hunger was one of the ones I was most impressed with, after hearing the 'bards', some rapping style, guitar skills, singing range ... Then I saw The Hunger and was literally stunned by the technical and lyrical skill which was even more impactful knowing what I'd heard from him before by that point. His talent is off the scale ❤ There are so many of his tunes I am looking forward to see you react to when you get to them!

Great reaction. Ren has been asked on all the 4 YT Interviews his done, what's the meaning of the pigs head. Ren "I'm not saying. It doesn't matter how people interpret his songs & vids, it's their personal view, and its just as valid as anyone else's" A great analogy from Ren, I used to think modern art was shit. Walking into an art gallery, and there a chair just stuck there, and an artist got paid a lot of money for it. I can say that's shit, but that's not the point, it's how people interpret this chair. Each person can have a different opinion, but each opinion is valid. The closest he came to explain the pig mask, was the interview with Knox Hill, They discussion when he was misdiagnosed with ME, and given all that medication he didn't need, and how the side effects had ravaged his body. "Sick Boi" is about what he went through at that time.. Knox said the pig head on the doctors who kept telling you all that pain was in your head. Ren said, not the nurses or doctors but the institution and system they work in". BTW a "Helter Skelter" is a very old traditional UK fairground ride, Basically it looks like a Lighthouse, with a slide that spirals around the outside, from the top to the bottom. There's stairs inside the structure to get to the top. Beatles Lyrics."When I get to the bottom, I go back to the top" 😉 Plenty of vids on YT, showing what they look like. There's one in Brighton. 😊

Alpha Beta Delta ... ABD, medical short-term for abdomen. So continuing the theme of belly, hunger, etc...

Great reaction! Yep, it's a one take. And Yes to the beatboxing too. I love the way early on he says Frankenstein, I made a monster... and then proceeds to stitch all these flows and cadences and beat switches together... making a monster; that he named The Hunger :)

Truly gifted people claim the ideas just flow through them, as if from somewhere else. Ren says the same thing with his "I'm a vessel..." bar. Youre the first reactor thats caught the pigs head on a spike reference to Lord of the Flies!

My take on the bar "Alpha, Beta, Delta, I help you into the fall out shelter" is that it references the game Fallout. Bunkers Alpha, Beta, and Delta are locations in the game. He later says "Fuck the game, completed every level", which could tie in to the Fallout reference. Of course, it's Ren, so I assume multiple meanings for every bar.

Glad you did this one, a nice change of pace from the more heartbreaking songs. It's got great energy. Losing It is another rap flex if you haven't found it yet. Lots of fun, but on that one he take a week known EDM track and messes with the production then raps over it.

Wow you pick up on virtually all the references and connections and I love the way you do that with your pefect pausing. You're clearly very well read, from stories to music as is Ren it would seem. Ren's scene is 1990 being his birth year. Mine is 1960 and grew up with hip hop but RAP has an amazing history that's worth reading about and how it found its way into hip hop. I gotta say, not even a quarter of the way in, and the way you break this down is just 👌 chef's kiss 😊

The word "Belter" means hard hitter "I'm going to belt you right in the kisser" or "Mike Tyson was a real belter who'd knock you out in 2 rounds or less" also means world champion (top of your division, to win the welterweight belt) Helter Skelter (ref. C. Manson a killer) needs an alcaselsor, Ren is the real killer in this game, giving all the other so called killer/monsters an upset stomach. That's just my take on these top bars. I've got to say you really do have great ears, picking up almost 97% on the first or second pass. The only person better than you on YT, IMHO is Knox Hill. Cheers brother!😁
