    Great video. I did this this weekend on one of the RZ350 wheel sets. The rear was easy. The front the spacer in the wheel would not allow for the drift/punch to contact the inner part of the wheel bearing. I made a tool out of an old screw driver. Took the handle off, heated the driver end a bit, put a bend in it and shaped it a bit, then was able to just catch the bearing enough to get it started. Then the drift/punch worked. Video forthcoming on my channel. But, I think I will invest in a bearing removal tool. It should simplify things and speed the process up. I use threaded rod to "press" the new bearings in.

There's no play or slack but I'm getting an intermittent rumbling noise at low speed and the sound is traveling up to my handle bars. I thought it was my speedo cable but I disconnected it and the sound was still there. My front wheel bearings are 6301-2RS.

    Awesome video! I've got a zuma 125 and it's been driving me nuts. I just put a third fuel pump and it has a really hard time starting. I have to turn the key crank a few seconds turn off and repeat 3 times before it will fire. I hear the pump humming every time. I've also cleaned the injector twice and put in a new air filter. I ride it daily and use 93 octane gas. It has 7200 miles and I adjusted the valves at 3500. The dealer wants $130 just to look at it. Any ideas? Thanks!

    Look up how to read codes and see if any trouble codes come up. Usually involves doing something while turning the ign on and off to get the check engine light to flash out sequences. May be in a service manual. I don't know a lot about the 125s, but all I hear about are fuel pump issues. Some replace with aftermarket pumps instead of Yamaha.

    Great tutorial. Can you tell me if the spacer should have any wiggle room at all once the bearings are in? I just purchased a set of SM wheels pre-assembled and noticed the spacer in the rear wheel rattling a bit when moving the wheel side to side. Another video I watched said the bearings should be touched by the spacer, but only barely. I'm wondering if I need to tap my bearings in some more to stop the spacer free play. Thanks for any insight.

  • @49ccscoot

    @49ccscoot

    Жыл бұрын

    You need a little pressure there. Not much. If the spacer is really jammed into the bearings, it can cause the bearings to bind. The spacer should not rattle. If you haven't reached the shoulders or ledges in the wheel, then drive the bearings in more and that should do it.

    My understanding is that those "decompression" or crankcase venting kits that connect at the oil dipstick are bad about drawing oil into them. There are some KZread vids about it I believe. Have you tried the simple things? Trying to start with throttle closed. Trying with throttle open a little. Trying with WOT. If it's getting too much fuel, WOT may get it fired up and then it can be cleared out.

    Just in case it' of use... I've had decent luck with Actron testers that auto parts stores carry, but I got mine on amazon. The cheap Harbor Freight testers get mixed reviews, and personally I wouldn't take that chance. You can also get testers in a loaner tool program from parts stores. Pay up front and then get your money back upon return as long as it's in the same condition and I think X amount of time from rental.

    Can I use Oil or other lubricant on the outer race to make it "slip in" ? Maybe WD-40 (since its oil-retardant) ? also over time it dries up by itself (thousands of joints that squeal after a month after WD-40 application can testify) so it won't be slippery for long

  • @49ccscoot

    @49ccscoot

    3 жыл бұрын

    That should be alright. Some say it reduces galling when you use a lubricant. Others say the interference fit will push out the lube anyway. I'd think it would depend on the fit and finish. I regularly use WD-40 on bearings that I freeze and drop in without issue.

    Getting that edge to stick when driving the bearing out is super hard. Dang. Would heating the bearing help and expand that "lip"?

  • @49ccscoot

    @49ccscoot

    Жыл бұрын

    You'd only be talking thousandths of an inch expansion with any reasonable heating. If you had an aluminum wheel, heating could expand the wheel enough to help it come out easier, but you'll still need to be able to contact the bearing. Try a punch that's small enough to move around a bit and see if you can move the inner spacer to give you more of a lip to contact on the bearing. Then make sure your punch has a good edge. Sometimes they get rounded and won't grab well.

    Probably big bore kit, big valve head, cam, CVT work, upgears, bigger carb... basically a full build. 55MPH is not near the capability of these stock 4Ts. I have gone about 50 with a calibrated aftermarket speedometer on a stockish 139QMB, but that was tucked, slight downhill, strong tailwind. If all you want is a bragging rights kind of number like that, then it's a different story. Won't take that much. For something that reliably does 50MPH+ on flat ground, it takes more work.

    The first thing that I'd do is put it up in the air in the front and back, one at a time is fine. Spin each wheel by hand and inspect. See where that leads you. You should be able to tell if it's a brake issue that way. Gotta go 1 step at a time and work toward the solution.

    Hi, I just had to install new bearings on my scooter wheel and I understand that when you push new bearing in, you have to put pressure on the outer ring, but when I'm finished and I have to push the axis through the inner part, it will create pressure on it anyway. And there is now way how to avoid that. Any advice?

  • @49ccscoot

    @49ccscoot

    5 жыл бұрын

    If you just mean that it's stressed from riding on the axle, then that's normal stress that the bearings were designed for. They weren't designed to be pressed or hammered on the inner race while being held by the outer race. That's a different type of load. If you're having to hammer or press the axle through, then that's a different story. Perhaps there is a misalignment or something is not properly sized.

    Ideal would be to replace the wheel because it's a potential safety issue. Depending on circumstances, other options may include shimming, a retaining compound or perhaps machining to fit a bearing with a slightly larger outside diameter for the proper interference fit. It would need to be precisely measured and inspected.

    Well..just wondering about all those Chinese made mystery-metal bikes, parts and 'tools'? Taiwanese, Japanese and all others are far better in every way. Learned a sad lesson firsthand after installing Chinese made nuts, bolts and bearings and having them ALL FAIL when I was riding or in the case of bolts, snapping at a place bubbles had formed. A perfect example of a bunk, mystery-metal in which the precise composition of the metal and temperature are not controlled. I caution one and all to avoid buying or using them like the Plague.

    @@wendellfugate4088 Right now, I own 5 Chinese scooters and mopeds and then a Yamaha TMAX. The Yamaha is the one that I trust to hop on and ride most of the time without much beyond maintenance. The others, well you never know. In some cases there, Chinese doesn't matter all that much. If you're gonna replace nearly everything as a project, it's not as big of a deal. I believe in PDIs on Chinese parts. You'll notice in the video that I put Japanese bearings into my Chinese wheels. My Chinese 2Ts engine cases are probably worse quality metal, but made better for building big strokers like I do. There are ups and downs. If I were to start over on day 1 knowing what I know now though, I would own more small scoots that are from higher tier brands but I'd still buy Chinese stuff as well. Some of it kind of relates to how many think of a certain bargain tool chain... there are some things that are a great bargain and some things that are total garbage and you just have to learn what's what.

    I haven't heard a lot from Kymco owners. There has been speculation that the Taiwan cranks may last longer. I've had one person tell me they used a Naraku HD crank and even it failed quickly. Should be less stress on any of them with the smaller bores. There are people with quite a few miles on 50mm kits, though they tend to be easier on them. If getting many miles from it is a big concern, I don't think it's worth the risk of the larger bores. If you don't care that maybe the crank goes in a short period, then try it.

    You don't want to use a larger head than the bore size. Will make pockets that increase the risk of detonation and will cause low compression. 72cc kit should work fine with 18-20mm carb. Many use them with the stock head and it bumps up compression.

    Either has worked alright for me in the wheels, and I've seen both stock. In this case, there are seals outside of the bearings, so it's not a big concern. Generally, I would advise using whatever the manufacturer recommends.

    Try some heat on the wheel before trying to drive it out. Make sure there's nothing blocking the bearing from coming out.

    At the start, it's dark grey paint on most of the wheel. Then, after the bearings and seals were out, I cleaned and sanded the whole wheel. I put the bearings in. Masked it off and painted the wheel black. Same wheel.

    Inspect it. See if the bearings make noise or feel rough when the wheel is off of the ground and rotated.

    Exactly! I had an accident a few years ago and noticed my scooter pulls slightly to the left. Now I know with confidence it could be either the Wheel bearings or the handlebar bearings? What do you think? P.S already subscriber and have been for years ;)

    Could also be a bent steering stem. That's pretty common in scooter crashes. I'd first try to check that the wheel is straight when the handlebars are straight. If only a little off, it could be tough to notice. Then just go over the whole front end. All of that is routine maintenance anyway.
