    Gday Matt my last set of terrain tamer shocks lasted over 10 years before being flogged out, got a set of Raw nitro max shocks and changed the cruiser completely. Looking to get a set of parabolic springs soon thanks to your old vid on them. Thanks heaps for the knowledge mate, this stuff would take decades to learn by one's self.

    A great informational video. I do know the basics of shockers but you added more knowledge for me. This shows how technology is changing everything. I did like the "around the campfire" chat bit haha.... I'm up for shocks soon in my 80 and doing some research at present.

    I'm sorry Matt but you've taken all of the secondary details from the shocker and made them the primary points. Shock absorbers are there to stabilise the springs and heat is a side effect of that process. The oil is there as a dampening fluid and not because it acts as a coolant but it does because it is the only fluid present, if oil was good at cooling, your engine wouldn't need a water based coolant system. Scragging removes the original springiness and sets the springs to their natural height, if that didn't happen then when you fitted your springs you would get sagging over time as they bedded in, scragging removes that bedding in process so you don't get sag. Shot peening increases durability and life of springs by reducing the residual compressive tensile stresses added to the metal in the forming process.

    I’ve since watched the video with your comments in mind and can see how you have come to your conclusion but I think if you were to watch again you would see that i do understand the workings of shocks. I do tune them on the ultra4 racecar and they’re a 3 stage bypass shock with a seperate coil over shock for the suspension. It’s not a simple setup.

    Ok, now I REALLY want to build a system based on the Citroën oil/nitrogen parts. Basically a pressure source, hydraulic rams with nitrogen spheres and a hydromechanical regulator for height sensing. Let the hydraulics take care of the spring and heat job, and the dampening works like that shock absorber. And the party trick is that spring and damper are dynamically connected. More load=more oil miving around the damper. And the really fun stuff begins when you incorporate the "hydractive" parts. Let an ECU control a separate sphere for softness on smaller bumps, and disconnect in for stiffer dampening on the big bumps. Damn, I want that.

    @@MadMatt4WD I have to google the kdss system. But Citroëns are a bit of a passion so I probably feel more comfortable there. The only problem I see is how to get/make some suitable rams and maybe tuning/finding the correct damper properties in the spheres. But I imagine that Citroëns have kind of a "secret weapon" there. All Citroëns except the last has trailing arms with very short rams that are "geared" to a lot more travel at the wheel. (sorry for my bad/strange english). Also the system with separate spheres are possible to connect in "serial/parallell". It´s only important to remember that it´s a bit "backwards" compared to metal springs. Meaning that you take "away" suspension to make it more stiff. In essense, very hard spheres (little gas+smaller orifices) at the wheel cylinders, and a more soft+less dampened sphere that you can connect inline with the wheels to make it softer when needed. And if you also take the active roll-correction from the Xantia Activa you will have zero body-roll on the road combined with 100% disconnected anti-rollbars when flexing. That one is also surprisingly simple in it´s layout. One anti-rollbar-link per axle is replaced with a ram that the car adjust with a hydraulic/mechanical valve connected to the roll-bar. The simple and genious part is that when roll-bar is not needed the system use the same kind of valve-part with a sphere on it as the regulation of "sport/comfort"-suspension. I understand if someone has doubts about this, but Citroën are really good at hydraulics. Most failures are due to people without knowledge trying to "fix" something. It´s a bit sad that I only have a IFS-car to try it on (Isuzu Trooper). But maybe it´s a good idea to hold myself back a bit and only do it in the rear anyway.

    @@MadMatt4WD That was interesting. Looks like they were inspired a lot of the SC-CAR (Activa) system. Very nice to see that they did something like this for offroad-use. And I guess thy have something similar to the Activa for controlling it. Although I couldn´t see if leaning vas actively controlled or more a result of controlled stiffness. What I mean is something like "in the Activa, leaning is a choice, adjust it wrong and you are leaning at maximun on a straight road". Although I see a potential problem there. The Activa is always interacting when flexing. They are best in class while taking a bump on one side, but may look a bit funny when parked on uneven surfaces. I guess it would sometimes be pretty stupid to have this when crawling rocks. But I guess the Citroën way with this is to throw some more regulators on it. And a lot of beer on yourself...

    Went to get a quote for these for my 76 but they never got back to me and didn’t return calls to get the quote and information so I went to tjm and got their remote res pace shocks and I couldn’t be happier with them!

    ןI liked your video but I have some remarks: the nitrogen is not there because explosion free, it is not to contaminate and oxidize the oil. The heat disipation is not due to the expansion botle.. I will preffere a gas shock

    My preference would be Fox 2.5 coilovers or King Shocks both are reservoir shocks and can be custom made for your application...plus they last forever

    Hi Matt sir!! Highly educational video for someone who is not familiar with this configuration such as myself. I have a Toyota Tundra (I don't know if you get those over in Australia!) and i see a lot these trucks converting to this type of set up; however, I am not sure if they would be worth the money as I won't be going off-roading. All i do with my truck is pull a 4K pound boat. Your feedback is much appreciated. Thank you very much..

    Hey mate. Yes we have imported Tundras here. IMO these would be overkill for you. You could put a set in the rear if the shocks are too soft when towing just for the adjustability.

    It’s kind of irrelevant because every vehicle and driver is different but the front’s are sitting on four and the rears are sitting on one I’m just still getting to know the settings

    Hello Sir. I want to add 2 inches of Dobinson lift kit in front and rear to my Prado 150. Should I get Dobinsons IMS or the regular yellow ones? Do I need to get spacers as Prado leans on sharp turns or roundabouts? What should be the front springs- C59-352? Rear Springs C59-325? Front Shocks IMS59-50700 Rear Shocks IMS59-50705. Sorry for asking a long question.

    Hi, I did a 2" Dobinson IMS lift on my Prado 150. My tires are still stock at 265/65/R17. I want to upgrade it to all terrain but keep the tire size same as stock 265s. I go for offroading on deserts. What do you advise?

    Hi there Just wondering if you are still running the pro shocks? How do you find the fixed rebound setting? Is it very good across different terrain or does the shock need adjustable rebound. Is the compression adjustment adequate across different terrain especially fully loaded? Also how do you find the progressive front springs? Thanks Mick

    I'm very happy with the setup. I mean they have their limitations as they can't adjust for rebound but for the average user they are great. When i tow the race car i crank them up and then if i'm running around town i set them soft. On high speed dirt i can hook in with confidence.

    Been running them for about 3 years now. Serious tracks too. Canning, Simpson, Cape York, etc.... Decided I wanted something a bit more serious than the foam cell shocks I'd been running. I had heard good things about konis and really like their simplistic design. They do not use a gas charge at all, it is a large volume oil only shock that cools extremely efficiently. I think it's always horses for courses but I've found they work fantastically with the 70 series leaf spring design and I really like their tough, no nonsense approach. Totally rebuildable they are designed for rugged outback travel. And they are an impressively large and very high quality design Not only that, they have transformed my ride. I mean did I mention how big they are??.... they're big......... not that size id everything of course........ at least that's what i'm told!.......... Yeh they're not the cleverest design out there (although they are tuneable) but they are simple and solid and rugged and built to last for years just like the landcruiser itself and I think they'll be good for many more thousands of kms yet. In fact I can't fault them.

    G’day Matt. About your Compression setting. Your front is on 4 that’s from the soft setting I guess and the rear is on 1. Is that the same on the Rebound adjustment? Im just trying to see what is the best combination of setting... cheers 👍👍👍

    Hey mate. You’ve Identified the settings correctly. 1 is soft. Since filming this I’ve brought the back up to around 3. But I can’t tell you your settings as there are to many variables.

    The ride will depeand on making sure the shocks are fitted to the right vehicle. The adjustability of the shocks does allow for a better ride assuming the above. You can change the adjustment depending on the load.

    I had them in an 80 i bought and they were no good for my application. The guy who fitted them loved them. They are a good product for the right application
