Very nice diagnosis and repair Jahan. You probably already know this, but looking at the IR LED through a digital camera and pressing one of the buttons on the remote will allow you to see the LED flashing. Take care...

Hi, Thanks for showing how to repair your TV's remote. You may already know this, but another way of checking to see if a remote control is working is to push the remote control buttons when the remote is within an inch or two of an AM radio that is not tuned to a station. You'll hear the interference on the AM radio's speaker when you push the remote control buttons. Regards, Tom

+THOMMGB Yes you are very much right that is the easiest way to test them. Thanks for sharing the tip. I was using that sometimes ago. Some people are making a jig with IR receive, power supply and a sort of LED display to show the activity when pressing a button. Regards,

+THOMMGB Or you could press any button on the remote and look at it through your phone camera/or any camera, it picks the light emitted by the led.

spelunkerd Thanks for complement dear sir. I am using sometimes soldering pate, Colophony or rosin in most cases. But here as flux cored soldering wire was enough for the job so only used that.

In the past ive had to pull the led back into the case a little to stop it being knocked, the window ones dont suffer with the same problem. Did you aim it at the camera as a final emission check? I made a box for the basic test, it was a remote sensor module from a vcr connected to a bargraph pcb from an old cassette player, stronger emission=higher bargraph :-))

zx8401ztv You are right mate that would be great if we will fix the LED a little back inside the case to prevent it from future breaking. I did check the remote with TV for working and found it working after the repair. Testing on camera is a good idea as cameras are picking IR from remote and showing it glowing. The box you stated I saw with one guy and I was thinking some time to make one but then did not do that project.

LearningZone I suppose it depends on how many remotes you have to repair, i didnt have a camera or knew about them picking up infra red, so i had to bodge something together. I did quite a few remotes over the years, mostly damage from spilt soft drinks. The old remotes had a yellow block ceramic resinator, they often fell off the pcb due to constant dropping impact, the wires would flex too many times and fracture. I used rubber solution to hold the resinator on the pcb, then solder wires from the stubs to the pcb, never failed again :-))

thanks for explain. you have wonderful soldering wire :( I have bought 3 type of wire but I can't use them, when I touch to the wire with my 60w soldering, it doesn't melt as yours :( I don't know what type of wire I must buy

there is a better way on how-to prevent the sweat of silicone oil on each button which causes the button to not functioning. Have you notice this sweat of silicone oil did not happen to telephone buttons covered with hard plastic button? Never. Why I don't know. But maybe the heat from our finger could block by the plastic. How to apply this to tv remote control and other remote control? Just cover the remote control with plastic cover. Don't let the remote control used without the plastic cover. 100% I can guarantee that no sweat of silicone oil will happen. I tried this to my tv remote control for 14 years. After my tv broke down, I open my remote control and found no presence of silicone oil. Also we can see the light of infrared of remote control every time we presses the button is thru cellphone camera
