How to fix / clean remote control buttons that don't work.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Well as I refurbish remote controls thought it would be a good idea to sort one of our own out as it had been playing up for a few weeks.
In this case it was just one button (Power) and following a clean of the circuit board and button pads restored normal operation.

Thanks for this. I had already took my remote apart and was using a light amount of lighter-fluid (only thing I had) and just wanted to check (afterwards LOL) that I was doing it correctly. I got it all back together, 2nd time around (oops), and all is great now. Thanks again.

My menu button still doesn’t work at all even after cleaning the black squiggly lines on the remote as well as the conductive black dots on the rubber piece, which are the buttons. What should I do

It will either be the button pad is worn or the a problem with the contact on the board. To test the button pads try to put the board back in the case so you can insert the batteries but leave the top off. You should now be able to touch the conductive pads on the board with a piece of tin foil to see if each function works or in your case the menu button. If the button works when touched with foil then the rubber button pad is worn out. There is a conductive paint available to paint the rubber pad with but it's not cheap, I have had some success gluing tin foil to the rubber pad but it is tricky. If it's not the rubber button pad then the board is at fault and you will need to look for breaks in the circuit etc. Hope this is of some help, many thanks.

@@DARTraderMediaProductions Thank you, I’m not quite sure what it was, but a few minutes after cleaning it, it started working. I tried testing the conductive pads by use the conductive pads of the other buttons that aren’t used as much. But it did work with its own button, so I think it was just dirty. This did help a lot. Thank you sir

The truth is some remotes cost upwards of £50 so a refurbishment is a valid option. I could get £25 plus for a refurbished Denon remote. A genuine remote for some models can cost £100.
