Rejected, Discarded But Beautiful Burl Bowl

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This cottonwood was discarded at our club's monthly Saturday gathering. Why discarded? The piece had a pair of smaller burl bumps. One had an accidental gash from a chain saw; the other had large obvious voids.
I picked it up anyway and decided to see if I could get anything from it. It yielded a 6" diameter, 2" tall bowl with amazing burl figure. Walnut oil brings out the beautiful color.
Enjoy.

Pretty neat Alan. Just proves that every piece of wood is worth turning.

Well done Alan. Very well presented. Thank you for saving a piece from the burn pile. Awh, go ahead, nag on a bit. Most of us need it. I know I do from time to time. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and continue to stay safe.🙂🙂

Most of us turn for pleasure and occasionally need to "push the limits" of our ability. Highly figured, extra holes and knots, and sometimes spalted wood are not beginner's projects because of the higher risk of "off the lathe" experiences. Your burl bowl is certainly beautiful. Thanks for sharing it with us.

We all have to start somewhere. Where we wind up depends on pushing limits Alan

Nice bowl, Alan. We can always count on you for something a little different. I always say there's no such thing as scrap wood - just wood that hasn't been used yet. Bill

Очень красивая чаша! В ней видна индивидуальность! Делать из хорошего материала- ремесло, сделать из бросового - искусство!!!! Я сам делаю изделия в этом стиле! A very beautiful bowl! Individuality is visible in her! Making good stuff is a craft, making junk stuff is an art!!!! I make products in this style myself!
