Rediscovering The Spiritual Realm With Dr. Michael Heiser

Every now and then a reader will encounter a verse in the Bible that shakes the paradigm, that changes what the way they look at the Old Testament. For Dr. Michael Heiser, it was Psalm 82. In this mind blowing, somewhat obscure verse, the Psalmist writes "God presides in the great assembly, He pronounces judgement upon the gods". Did you catch that? There are apparently other gods, lots of them. Why have we not been taught this in church? What is being hidden in plain sight from us? Join us for an incredible interview as renown Old Testament Scholar Dr. Michael Heiser takes us on a journey through the scriptures to rediscover the unseen realm hidden within its pages.

Around the third time reading through the Bible I realized a lot of what I had learned my entire life didn't exactly line up with what I was reading in God's word. I just couldn't make it fit together. Since then I have prayed that the Lord would enable me to too put away all that I had been taught and to see His Word for what it really was, as if I had no previous knowledge. Ironically I now observe the Biblical Holy Days and observe a Saturday Sabbath, these being the most outwardly observable changes I've experienced, though there were many others as well.

One thing my brain hasn't come to a conclusion on is.... at the tower of Babel when the Father divides the people and confounds their languages, who exactly are the 70 beings from the Heavenly hosts he uses to rule over them? Members of the council, angels, something else?

I was lead by the Holy Spirit to a number of righteous teachers* drawing me back to the right path. Dr Heiser was the last one about 4 years ago and I learned why. If I'd not been rebuilt with the solid foundation of learning the Bible's truth (not manmade doctrines) I would not understand much of anything Dr Heiser talks about. Even now I still am challenged to wrap my brain around some things and still fail. But failing less and less is progress. Praise be to God!!! *before beginning this "comeback" I prayed to be lead to righteous teachers, speaking no lies and in a way I could understand it. Step by step the teaching built up the foundation layer by layer. When I was ready for the next layer, I was lead to another. All on KZread.

@tom younger First step was to cleanse away the KJV-only stumbling block and James White was used for that and only that. Even at that early stage I knew something was wrong with his theology via his snarky attitude. Mark Lanier with his Church History series which started to prep my mind for his big series Biblical Literacy. This gave me a good foundation for the more advanced knowledge to come. Shoehorned in there was a 9 month survey course at our church, not too deep but gave me the broad perspective of the Bible in general but especially how the OT and NT and everything in between is intertwined from the first to last page. Never realized that before. I picked up nuggets here and there, mostly on KZread. Bryan Melvin, Dean Braxton, Bill Wiese and Ian MacCormick who have great insight into the spiritual realms of heaven and hell via their experiences. Plus a couple more I can't recall. It was Bryan Melvin who suggested the next big step and that was BSF Bible Study Fellowship which has been an awesome tool and experience. So that's been going for 5-6 years. Dr Michael Brown dropped in somewhere in the blur of time to cover various topics from the Jewish perspective and modern day issues. Three years ago when the BSF classes ended for the summer I was bummed out. I was on fire but now what to do? I prayed about what was I to do for the summer. Well, a week or less I was lead to Dr Hugh Ross and my universe exploded (pun intended) which made me see Genesis and the Creation in wide angle view! As my mind was starting to grasp the incomprehensible nature of Creation, then WAM!! I was lead to Dr Micheal Heiser on Skywatch TV talking about the Unseen Realm and a short time later the nuclear mind blower.....Revesing Hermon. My life has not been the same since then, literally. Its a rare day I don't do something connected with the Bible even if its comparing renderings of different English translations on BibleGateway.com. That's the condensed version! :)

Romans 9:22-24. God demonstrates His Power and love to us whom are His be second birth , by allowing sinners to seemingly get away with all kinds of evil. In this act , He is showing us His Devine patience , long suffering and kindness toward us when we fail. As Sons and daughters. He is making known to us the riches of His grace and mercy.

Great teaching, Well put with sound understanding. My view on Peters sifting varies slightly. At one point Peter made a claim/boast, that if even all the rest would leave him that he never would. Matthew 26.33. Whenever a believer makes a claim on their abilities, integrity, strength, or whatever, then to me it seems Satan has a wright or authority to challenge that claim. That is why we as believers are instructed to not say, I will do such and such, but by the grace of God I hope to do such and such. James 4 13-15.

My view on Jobs trial is, that God had it planned from the beginning to test Job. As he tests all that are his. Putting it simply for through testing he perfected his heart. It's all in the texts. We all have a favoured attribute of God when we read the texts. I like "take a pill" Jesus. Martha's spazzing out, and he's just like "nobody's forcing you to be up in the kitchen, lady. You could be out here chilling with us." But my favourite aspect of him is that he adored his mother and obviously loved her very, very deeply. She wants the wedding at Cana to continue because she's having a great time and she's so happy and joyful, but if he turns the water to wine, he's now exposed his true nature and his time of being her son is over. He has to go be the lamb of God and go off to die. He does what she wants anyway because she asked him to and because he loves her and he just wants to give her some happiness before she will have to watch her baby die. To me, there's no mystery about what he was doing or what his motivation was in that moment. He just wanted to give his mother one more moment of joy, one more good memory before his time of leaving came. I'm not even sure what I believe in, God or no God or whatever, but that one moment in the whole text, all 6,000 of them, hits me every single time. His time was coming and he knew it. He easily could have revealed himself by raising the dead, or walking on water, or any number of other acts he performed later, but instead he chose to expose his true nature when he did because he wanted his mother to be happy for just a little while longer. Think of a God who would love any of us enough to hurry their own horrific and brutal demise in order to give any of us just a little more time to be happy. The mere concept of it is confounding. But it's also so simple that anyone could understand it. It's all in the text.

Great show! Love the content of discussion... Couple considerations; 1) In Job’s Case, it’s not necessarily an Either/Or situation. There can be a third explanation. “The” adversary can be specifically describing Satan according to what he does. I think Dr. Heiser’s explanation is more in line with as “AN” adversary (non specific) rather than “the” adversary... (very specific) Agreed, the Hebrew definite article (the) means adversary is not operating in this verse as a proper name but it’s clearly a job description most profoundly pointing to Satan. IE: Compare with Peter’s description in NT; “Your adversary” “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” ‭‭I Peter‬ ‭5:8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ Whereas, both THE adversary-and YOUR adversary can communicate cohesively the adversary of adversaries=The Devil/Satan with no contradiction. 2) Ahab is given prior knowledge and told by the prophet of God what’s actually going on in terms of the deceiving spirit allowed/sent by God that is causing his prophets to lie and Ahab still doesn’t listen... Thus, God’s decision for Ahab’s judgment is ultimately revealed to Ahab by God’s truth which he (Ahab) rejects... And falls perfectly in line the James passage: “Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone (Context=by evil) But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.” ‭‭James‬ ‭1:13-15‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ Hence, this Ahab judgment situation that God allowed drew out what was already in Ahab’s wicked heart-(massive arrogance and his own sin to do evil contrary to God’s will despite being told point blank how it will end for him...

In Job 36 we hear Elihu give a reason for Job's suffering, "...for it was to prevent you from getting into a life of evil that God sent this suffering." (Job 36:21) Given Job's obsession with judgement on the godless mentioned in the preceding verses, it is possible that he was becoming more and more susceptible to seeing it carried out, regardless of the method. Perhaps this suffering served to prevent Job from becoming a self righteous vigilante. Since God never reprimanded Elihu, I always considered his speech to be valid. Just a thought.

I no longer believe that Ha Satan backed God into corner in regards to Job. I used to, and the situation angered me a lot. It took me finally understanding that the adversary works for God, he does his bidding, and the main function of his office is to test us at God's command. He sifted Job, Jesus and Peter, just to name a few mentioned in the bible, and its not to be understated that he sought God's permission each time. We all need to be sifted, or proven through temptation. It proves who we are and what we truly believe. It's why the Tree of The Knowledge of Good And Evil existed in the garden. If you read Job again through that lens, it all really makes sense.

We couldn't figure God our Creator out by our studying, or our best knowledge. It'll just fall into the deceiption of the dark side easily. I don't mean at all. But if it is just one point, it can be led by the wrong side and go further. All has to be inspired by the Holy Ghost, and the Word of God. Not just the Word of God. And especially from man trying to figure it out. How far heaven is above the earth, how above is His Way and His Thought from ours. Love in Him

And even after all this proof, that GOD is a Real Live Being, the people rebel and turn against GOD. Every 4th generation. Like clockwork. Why? THEY KNOW GOD EXIST! We know from Genesis and Titus that the Ben-Elohim, the Watchers, fell from their First Estate, and Isaiah how that happened (he depicts a war in Heaven), and that they rebelled against G-d the Father, along with their leader, Ha'satan. They are immortal. But they are seperated from G-d the Father, which the unredeemed human is until s/he IS redeemed. There is no redemption for the Fallen Angels. Because of that seperation, Jesus warns us not to fear the one who can only destroy our bodies, but to fear the One who can destroy our souls in the Second Death, that is the ultimate seperation from G-d the Father at the Great White Throne Judgment (NOT The Bema Seat Judgment of the Bride of Christ's works and following rewards for same before the Trib Period, after we are Harpazoed out of here!). The Bible describes Humankind as 'men', a kind of shorthand; so the angels who will 'die as men' are fully seperated from Heaven and their Creator, as unredeemed men will, sadly, be, and this will be their eternal and awful torment. torment This is my read on this, of course. Hope this makes some sort of sense to you, bro.

V2 is the chastisement, 3-5 is what God had told them to do, and 6-7 is their punishment for leading people to worship them and accepting their worship. The members of heavenly host were created to be immortal, but these elohim God was addressing would now would be mortal beings and would die like men die.

The fact that part of Adam’s and Eve’s punishment was being expelled from the Garden of Eden is evidence. Mountains and gardens were known by ANE people to be the residences of gods. So the expulsion of Adam and Eve happened because they could no longer be in God’s presence.

Something that I have always wondered that no one can ever answer for me is this, I don't understand why the Bible talks about us (gentiles) being adopted If God created us to be equal. Why would God have "Chosen" People in the first place? I mean, I understand the phrase, we are all his creation, but not all his children. I do not understand why God would make a chosen people and then adopt others?

However, if you back up a verse to Romans 2:10 it says, "first for the Jew and then for the gentile. This insinuates that the jew does have a little bit of privilege going on. It also says, All are equal before Him. Ephesians 6:9 says, “There is no favoritism with him.” Colossians 3:25 teaches God’s fairness in judgment: “Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, and there is no favoritism.” there is a lot I am not understanding but I long to know the truth. 🤗

Hebrews 9:16,17 a last will and testament illustrates the necessity of Christ death for the fulfillment of the covenant. Your logic is akin to saying the Old Testament doesn’t begin until after the fall because this is when God makes the covenant with us. Just as the OTT begins with creation story, The New Testament text begins with the arrival of the promised messiah and takes us through his ministry and fulfillment of other prophecies (keep in mind that there are over 300 prophecies of the messiah - outside of his death and resurrection, and Christ fulfils them perfectly)

Be in the world but not of the worldly things it has a very deep meaning that I’m continuing to understand in a more profound way daily. I’m seeing everyday that the Beast is the man made systems that’s why it’s the number of man cause we built it up and continue to empower the beast system. To many people idolize and are a lover of these things more than Christ & his structure that is perfect for us yet filled with imperfect sinners. All the system mankind has built up is turning on and working to destroy the family in every way.

I would attempt to point out a logical position here that Mike highlights but sees only one side of. At 50 minutes on He is pointing out how the crucifixion is the secret blow, the uppercut, that the enemy, the Ha satan, did not expect. The move of God to break their attack and make their doom irreversible. All excellent stuff. I accept this just fine. However Mike then points out that this is achieved buy God becoming a man and being crucified as the blood covering for all those who "believe" in this. This concept of the incarnate God, the God man. Rising from the dead and now "over" those rebels in authority. Adams capitulation answered by God Himself. I feel this is where religion is still clouding the plan of God. What is missed is the logic, the equivalent logic that a man, a special perfectly conceived man, a second Adam seeded in the woman but who is not actually incarnate pre existing God, can also follow obediently to the cross, be raised and seated at Gods right hand and "made Lord" over those same spiritual rebels. Acts 2:36 says this. Will this not achieve the same result?? Instead of God becoming a man and returning to be God, we have the logic that a man being raised by God and glorified as if God. Like Joseph was under Pharaoh (we are always told Joseph is a christ type, and Joseph was NOT an egyptian). God produces the perfect "one of the flock" by special conception bypassing the seed of Adam (but fulfills Gen 3:15 re the seed of the woman) and allows that Lamb to be crucified, as Gods sacrifice. The spotless one of the flock. (what flock? are we not always referred to as a flock of Gods sheep) Thereby putting a "man" on the throne (co ruler ship) of God and being MADE lord of all, like Joseph was. This is the office of "imager" that Adam was supposed to have and is seen all through the bible. The same result therefore occurs that Mike is explaining, where the rebels are checked and now a man is higher in authority than they are, they have been outwitted by God not divulging everything (otherwise they wouldnt have killed Jesus as Mike points out) and a whole bunch of others (the body of Christ) are now too, now in bodies of flesh in the world, but no longer of the world. We are raised in new birth in authority above those eveil powers and principalities (and they hate that!) And we are promised we will be raised to the same state of glory to reign with that first raised Man, Jesus. !!!! I mean logically if the spiritual Ha satan was an evil intellegent force active still in the world wouldnt we expect that adversary to cloud this issue, and try to rob the body of Christ from full understanding of the issue, so as to weaken the body?? By twisted truths and part misunderstandings? Why does God have to become a man when a man could be raised to Gods authority to achieve the same ends? Is trinitarianism really the absolute truth?

If sin were separated from us by just a hair then it would be that we all together were free from sin yet how can that be accomplished? Can we gather sin up and cast it from us? Impossible since it abides within our hearts and minds...therefore God must go where sin is (within human flesh) and bares all the sin in order to take it to the watery grave and then leaves it there and arises unblemished unto life again! Salvation only happens when we acknowledge that Christ is in our heart since it is He that is carrying our sins. Praise God that He bears our sins so that we have life!

It is more likely they are showing their intended audience that they know of what was popular. Interestingly most of the writing is about refuting false teaching and bad understanding.
