Demons and Evil Spirits in Scripture: Dr. Michael Heiser 2019

Dr. Michael Heiser is back to discuss demons and the evil spirits found in scripture. The storyline of the Bible presents a populated spiritual world, full of creatures who are in rebellion against their Creator, just like humans. For lots of fascinating reasons, our modern conceptions of these spiritual rebels are based on serious misunderstandings of the Bible. So let’s go back to the book of Genesis and start over as we learn about the powers of spiritual evil in the story of the Bible.
We will discuss what the scriptures say about Satan and demons. We will talk about the governmental structure of these rulers of darkness, and hopefully, we will have time to discuss demon possession and the spiritual warfare Christians are commanded to participate in.

Sorry Comanche fighter, but that is incorrect born again believers, with the Holy Spirit are told by Jesus that we shall cast out demons, must repent of any know sin. No praying to Mary , burning candles to the dead to get people out of purgatory, there is no purgatory, salvation is in Jesus Christ alone. Read the book of John and Romans, to ensure you are born again , not by any works of yours. Sincerely In Christ.

Michelle, I completely agree. See my comment above, but to add to yours, the church I was raised in, we were taught that any other religion was not apart of the true church(that we were apart of) and therefore no one from those churches would be saved. Very narrow minded for sure, but now that I am an adult, I feel that I owe it to myself to re-write my faith and seek out the truth. I encourage everyone to do the same- ask questions, search for answers until you are satisfied. Also, don't just accept one answer, find supporting evidence. One thing I always had trouble with was the concept of "faith". I was told faith is believing in something unseen, which isn't to say I don't believe in God or a god, I have an easier time believing in something that is mroe tangible or at least has enough proof to support it.

It's crazy, I grew up believing that the world/universe was/is like this and had a hard time believing in the traditions taught in most churches. @@NotevenoneSame here..I grieved when he passed because I just felt like he was part of the family after listening and reading everything he has done. My mom passed away a few weeks after he did with the same thing, Pancreatic Cancer so my heart was even more broken and grieving. Mom dies March 21, 2023, she was 84. Dad, who was 92, does one day after mom on March 23, 2023. He had fallen and had Covid, I had Covid too. My brother an I are all that is left and after caregiving full time for my parents since December 2013 and working full time from home as a programmer I have to say I feel so lost and lonely. My brother feels a bit lot too because we both lived at home to care for mom and dad. My brother helped on his days off to give me a break but I loved mom and dad so much they were such a joy to care for. I think a lot about the pain they both were in, dad had late stage Alzheimer's, Covid and feel and mom may have had Covid as well but her yest came back negative. What mom did have was Pancreatic Cancer that they caught one week before she died. They are with our Lord Jesus Christ in heaven now with new bodies and no pain or sadness. My head knows that we will all be together again but my heart hurts deeply because I miss them. I take comfort in listening to all of Dr. Heiser videos as his voice is comforting and the topics are never boring.

Indian spirituality has really been on my mind since I found Dr Heiser last august. I went to India 26 years ago as a teenager, and the second week I couldn’t stop crying. The experience affected me spiritually. It just “felt”…bad. Sad. In spiritual darkness. Three years later I visited a Hindu temple here in Virginia, just because I was feeling nostalgic for my trip. Inside it was lined with idols on three walls, the fourth wall being where the door was. I can’t explain the experience Anything other than “Heavy.” I felt the utter presence of evil, and I needed to escape. Not just leave, but flee. The evil was absolutely palpable.

Same here in Indian homes. I don't feel weird because I know I am protected in Christ, but the anxiety of their residents is both subtle and off the charts. The last one I was in, there was a holiday where they put inscriptions on both sides of every door of their house to ward off evil spirits. The man of the house talked with me one-on-one and asked me, as a Christian, how I handle evil spirits. He seemed very worried that his holiday ritual wouldn't work. I told him the truth, that I just cast them out in Jesus' name and go back to sleep ❤ I prayed for him to be called strongly by God, and I thank God for calling him.

I get demonic attacks very often and from all sides. But I know my heavenly father who chose me while I was in my mother's womb, who I was worshipping from my childhood is there looking after me. I always look upto Him for help. The sad thing is the Christians here are spiritually weak and do not fight the good fight. Respect for Michael Heiser. I find it very appealing to listen to a smart guy that doesn't barade or talk down to other historical Smart Guys simply because they look at things differently. I really like the fact that dr. Heiser mentions that these other fellows did not have the Dead Sea Scrolls. I like the fact that he mentioned Calvin and Augustine in a good light and didn't criticize their work. Humility is so important in Christianity and Dr Heiser seems to have that.

I have been a follower of his work for a long time now and he is always gracious & humble in his critiques of other theologians. He always puts the analysis in the historical context which most of the time others will not do, then they have their self righteous rant about how the ones they are critiquing are heretics etc. Dr Heiser is a good example for all of us and his work has helped to answer many questions I had about scripture.

I was looking around and saw pagan gods that I recognized as Zeus, Poseidon, Odin, Thor, etc. they were all being noisy and rambunctious, and suddenly I heard a big booming voice call for silence. I looked behind me to the top of the tiered seats and sitting in the center was God. It was in that moment that I knew in my head and heart that YHWH is the ultimate power. Even if there are other spiritual beings proclaiming godhood, he is more powerful.

This is so important because people are reading the epic of Gilgamesh and the Greek gods history and want to know why Christians don't know about it or how to respond to it. I have a family member that follows the Greek gods and even has dreams she thinks are from them. I couldn't reconcile my own studies of Greek and Roman history and that they had the understanding of the places called Tartarus and Hades. There is also a modern person that took Homer's Iliad so seriously in its description of Troy that he went digging and discovered Troy. Heinrich Schlieman is his name.I used to think because I was taught it in school that the Greek and Roman myths were just exactly that myths... because it was pounded in your head in school. I now understand the whole culture was the offspring of the Nephilim and the clash of the Titans was a real battle. This is amazing. Just read the fragments of the book of Giants remnants that were found. Gilgamesh is mentioned in those! This guy knows his stuff.

Actually, when Yahweh brought the plagues over Egypt, He stated that the plagues were a judgement over the people and the gods of Egypt. The Most High was showing that these gods whoever they were, were under judgement for their unrighteousness. It is clear now that these gods were angelic or spiritual beings that were given authority over people and ended up leading them astray 😮

Agreed. And we also need to know that the Spirit teaches us (IC2.13), as we pray for a "spirit of wisdom...." E1.17. Wisdom (sophia) is also different from mindedness (phronimos). Wisdom sees ahead concerning courses of events and how they will unfold. Not perceiving the transgression and mixing outlined in Enoch, hides what Jesus meant by "as in the days of Noah so shall it be....". The reference Jesus makes to marriage and given in marriage is speaking of the union of fallen angels with women. This obviously repeats in the last days which wisdom reveals and God prepares those who can perceive such mysteries.

WOW... the Holy Spirit has been dealing with me on this and that confirms what the Spirit has been speaking to my heart... also, he said something to the effect of 'it's not about screaming at demons but speaking Truth to lies'... WOW AGAIN... at first that may not seem very profound but it is hugely profound and powerful... Great episode!!!

Jesus is God the Son, and He does have all authority, but that doesn’t mean that the authority of angels who did not fall had their authority taken away from them. I believe that there will be many different levels of authority given by the Lord.

“Well done good and faithful servant, take control of 5 cities....well done good and faithful servant take control of 10 cities” Luke 19:17 (Matthew 25:14 is the parallel verse but lacks the cities part) Both servants did well but they were given authority based on how well. It really kills this whole works verse faith argument that is most likely false and non-biblical and a misrepresentation of Paul, we will 100% be judged by our works but it will also be a gracious judgment with Jesus blood to cover us in instances. (Paul, as is a more popular scholarly view now, Who is more likely speaking out against the “works of the law” the outward laws contained in Moses (circumcision, wearing tassels, not wearing a shirt of two fabrics, ceremonial washings, sacrifices, kosher laws, Sabbaths, holy days, new moons etc etc etc), he was in no way saying that actually works don’t affect your judgment)

@@youngknowledgeseeker... I believe after The Holy Spirit 'quickens' within, what one does following, by direction of The Holy Spirit, is "The Works" One does with the 'gifts' one was given. It's all through The Gospel, as well as Paul's, Lukes, Timothy, James....etc. The 'gifts' according to what gifts, one was given . Written in The Gospels, Ephesians, 'The Hiding of The lamp under a table', etc...ex: 'The Parable of the Tares.' There are other examples, but I think many will 'get it now'. Those gifts are given to those whom GOD chooses, and I have to say... most "Christians", and Pastor's want to ridicule, and I am frustrated that, those who should recognize what Scripture was clear about, reject these gifts, like Jesus was rejected by His Own. "They received Him not". There are things in Scripture, that I 'know' would be ignored, due to pride, or 'whatever else, might be leading them', and sometimes I think that, "Those not having the eyes to see, or the ears to hear", is the reason Jesus spoke in Parable's, and then clear, when speaking to His Disciples. He is sifting the wheat. The jumping back and forth between different, but not unrecognizable Planes, galaxies, or wherever, had not been seen by the Counsel, and maybe they are now, but have been hiding it. This may be why The Catholic Church tried to Keep their members from reading the Bible for so long, and some entrenched with dogma. All I know is, since my NDE's, I have had things pop into my mind, that have been completely gone past the minds of many, and many won't hear me, but spend their live's taking in the 'Eucharist' thinking that it is about them committing sins, when Jesuss said to do this in Remberence of Him. It is not about the Congregation. And calling a Priests 'father' is another thing. I would have loved to speak with either of these Gentlemen. 💜

Truly fascinating. The idea that demons are disembodied Nephilim is one I had always dismissed. Looks like I may well be wrong. Explains why so much demonic activity and paranormal/mythological activity is so chaotic and unorganized. I think this ties in with explicit demonic phenomena, and such things as faeries, which the church in the middle ages regarded as a form of demon.
