Just got to the goat part, holy cow what shots, world class with that distance and how quickly you can get those off. Rewatched that 3peat at least 6 times. So impressive, great to watch. You gotta give us a gear review one of these days too, would love to know your rifle setup and your outdoor gear, jackets and the like. Great vid will look forward to more

I honestly think sniper rifles are for war. I am a fan of hunting with a pair of dogs and a double barrel. However, I have to say that I prefer a precise shot and a quick death of the game. Good video.
@controlledrecoil-nzhunting

Thanks mate. Depends what you mean by sniper rifle. This is a standard off the shelve hunting rifle. I suppose it could be called a sniper rifle, hadn’t really thought about it like that before. I agree a pair of dogs and a double barrel is a great way to spend a day that’s for sure 👍😁
MM77 Approved 👍🏼👍🏼………………………………………….Good shooting!! You must be in better shape than professional athletes. You carry all those goats out, you don’t have to worry about lifting weights at a gym and climbing those mountains, well, that takes care of the cardio. LOL!

Hey dude, love the content mate! Hey, I've got a tech question for ya: Does the scope cam positively affect any potential paralax error? I've been wondering about that for a while. I was thinking that it might give improved repeatability in terms of eye position...?
@controlledrecoil-nzhunting
Жыл бұрын
Hi, yes it possibly does. You have to be careful to mount your scope forward with enough room so you don’t wear it in the eye. Iv noticed you sometimes have to change the parallax a little different to normal for optimal focus which iv always been aware of but iv never had any issues with parallax error. I think your right in thinking it helps with consistent head position. I’m going to have to test this now 😂. Cheers mate 👍😁
Great video mate, keep up the content! What camera gear are you running?

Hi, Using the factory sako 123 gr in this video. Once iv finished them I’ll use the brass. Iv already got a 168gr ELD-M load made up that groups nice. Thanks.👍
Impressive. What is the rifle, scope and calibre you are running?
@controlledrecoil-nzhunting

Hi, I’m using a Tikka .308 with a 16” barrel and a hardy suppressor. Element Optics 2-16x50 HDLR. Nice compact combo.
I reckon you collect the goats afterwards. Does your government require you to purchase tags for animals you hunt?
@controlledrecoil-nzhunting
Жыл бұрын
We try to utilise as much of the meat as possible. We eat goat as well as use it to feed our farm working dogs. We don’t require tags in NZ but do require a permit for public land or special permits for ballot blocks. Goats get into very large numbers in certain areas so it is important to keep numbers in check to avoid damage to our native plants. We are lucky as everything we hunt in NZ is introduced and with no predators they must be hunted to keep in check. Thanks for watching 👍
I see your using the new element hdlr scope did you have any issues with the parallax adjustment on full magnification, where you are unable too get a good clear image at extended ranges
@controlledrecoil-nzhunting
Жыл бұрын
Hi, iv had a really good run so far, zero issues with the Element Optics gear. There were a couple of shots there where I didn’t have time to refocus the TRIGGERCAM so it wasn’t as clear as it should have been. Both the TRIGGERCAM and the scope work perfectly when I do my part. I would almost say the 2-16x50 HDLR is one of the most versatile and best value for money buys at the moment. Early days though as I haven’t had it long. Have you had issues with that model?
@bobbycollins684
Жыл бұрын
@@controlledrecoil-nzhunting yes having a issue with the parallax trying to focus on full magnification between 200 and 500 yards the image is not clear I know of two other scopes with the same issue mine has been returned to be assessed and both my friend's scopes are waiting to see what is the resolution with my scope before they return there scopes

That’s interesting to hear iv used 3 of those optics and they have all been great so far. Could you please keep me in the loop on the result of this. I’d be very interested as to how it is resolved. Best of luck. 👍

Hi, yes it always pays to take a few. Their numbers just explode otherwise. We need to do our part. No big stags walking around if they are struggling for winter feed. Thanks for watching 👍👍😁
Can you tell me why you hunt these numbers? You certainly can't take everyone with you
@controlledrecoil-nzhunting
10 ай бұрын
Hi, I try to utilise as much as possible however I can’t retrieve all of them unfortunately. All the animals we hunt in New Zealand are introduced and have no natural predators so if we didn’t hunt them and control numbers they would simply destroy our native bush. It’s a unique situation as every time we go hunting we are actually helping our native environment. I also have a license to sell some for human consumption as well as using some for dog food. There is now a consistent market for the meat starting and more people are using helicopters to recover animals in remote areas. If demand increases enough we may see very little wasted meat which would be nice. However in the meantime it’s important to keep numbers in check. Thanks for watching 👍😁
