    Excellent shooting. Personally, I don't do head shots, because of the head is almost always moving, and I don't like the possibility of a shot in the jaw or snout. But, this is your video and you do the job really well, so I'll just STFU. 😁 Enjoy your videos, mate.

    Mate it’s a very important situation to mention. I’m very particular about head shots especially on deer for that exact reason. Deer have a large amount of noise and jaw which increases that problem substantially. That’s why I tried to wait for the back of the head shot to minimise that situation. Can’t count the times iv turned down a head shot because of that. Iv seen it happen before and it’s the worst situation having a wounded animal that you know can’t live but is fully mobile. I might mention this next time as I don’t want people to think that’s always the best option. Cheers for the feedback and support 👍😁

    @@controlledrecoil-nzhunting Thank you for the reply and for being civil - I dunno whether that's a Kiwi thing, or you're a good guy. As I said, what you are doing works for you and you are aware of the possible drawbacks. I've seen you do headshots in other videos and you certainly do a great job. With a back of the head shot, my objections fall away. If you hit him, it's in a vital area. (except for the ear, maybe - and then he can look tough and show off his piercings 😆)

    @@controlledrecoil-nzhunting Some can do it consistently when on form, even on the run. Made a big difference when commercial carcassing. Knowing when you are off & hitting a higher insurance area makes for the better operators. And when head/neck shooting not trusting any hit slightly suspect. On mobs it means not leaving such animals without a quick knifing in passing first when after the getaways, & approach red alset ready for revivals. Not hesitating with a follow up shot at any sign of getting up, Long range shooting (which varies widely with individual & gear) causes far more grief.

    Hi , no season in most places as far as laws are concerned except for duck season, but there are the main times to hunt like the rut etc. As far as gathering meat, it’s all year round. Everything we hunt here is introduced and have no natural predators. It’s all up to hunters , professional or recreational to control numbers 👍😁 thanks for watching.

  • @controlledrecoil-nzhunting

    @controlledrecoil-nzhunting

    9 ай бұрын

    Hi, so this depends on the situation How long before it’s going to be in a chiller ? How far are you carrying it? (You’re body heat will heat it up while it’s in your pack, even if it was cold when it went in ) The answer is always, as cold as possible and as early as possible. However this is not always practical. If I’m away hunting for several days I will be sure to cool it fully to stone cold before it goes into any packaging. If you’re in a position to have a chilly bin with ice even better. If you’re remote and on foot the best way iv found is to lay it on a clean rock in the shade. The rock will remove the heat very quickly from it. It works surprisingly well. Removing the meat off the bone is far more effective to remove heat quickly. I always do this as soon as practically possible. If there’s no rocks, hanging it in the shade is the next best thing. Don’t add moisture or cool with water. Moisture will activate bacteria faster and risk spreading any contamination that may be present. This will make the meat spoil faster. If I know it’s getting into a chiller that night I’m happy to have a little heat left in it but will deal with it straight away when I’m home. That being said I never put meat in a plastic bag unless it is fully cold. Plastic bags and other non- breathable materials will cause the meat to “sweat” / partially cook and this is one of the fastest ways to make it go off if there’s still heat present. Not a problem though if it’s fully cold. It’s worth noting that if the meat is cooled fast and straight away, it will handle adverse conditions a lot better and for longer than if it took a long time to cool or stays with various amounts of heat for a while. Hope this helps. Cheers 👍😁

    Hi, I’ve found roasting it, or cubing it if your putting it into a stew or curry . The key is to slow cook it and lock in the moisture. It can dry out easily as it’s a very lean meat. You won’t win any prizes frying it like steak. 😁 Thanks for watching 👍

    It often looks worse than it actually is (over-speed ammo often excepted). Can be messy to work with though, & much is wasted by poor carcass prep. Given that, & the scungy old animals plenty gleefully call prime meat that need the sort of treatment that would make old boots sort of edible, many aren't fussy. Still don't see the cautions on the diseases to be aware of, or with some species, the chronic poisons sometimes used that make commercial carcass recovery banned from active risk sites.

    @@controlledrecoil-nzhunting how is the meat destruction at close range with eld-m? Dont they fragment alot?

  • @controlledrecoil-nzhunting

    @controlledrecoil-nzhunting

    9 ай бұрын

    Yes close range and ELD-Ms don’t mix well. Huge damage on most animals and risky on very large animals as they can over expand before the vitals. However this is all down to the impact velocity. Out of my short 16” barrel the velocity is very mild at 2530fps so it balances nicely and tames down the expansion problem while still having sufficient expansion at longer distances. However that’s why I head shoot a lot at shorter distances to preserve meat. I’ve had a great run with them but I would certainly apply caution if you are running magnum velocities unless you’re only shooting at long range. They are fantastic at long range. Thanks for watching 👍😁

    Hi, by shooting an animal in the head you avoid damaging a lot of the usable meat that would otherwise have been spoiled by shooting it in the shoulder. Neck shots achieve a similar outcome to a head shot also. However headshots are not always the best option and should be taken with caution. Easy to wound an animal by hitting the jaw or nose. They should only be taken in circumstances where a very high level of accuracy can be achieved. Thanks for watching 👍😁
