INGREDIENTS:
1 cup red lentil (200g) (washed and soaked in water for at least 20 - 30 mins (or overnight) until the lentils are very tender)
(NOTE: Some lentils are more dry than the others and therefore need more soaking time. How to know if the lentils are soaked well? You should be able to cut a lentil piece with your nails, effortlessly. If not, then soak it longer)
1 inch of ginger (roughly chopped)
4 cloves of garlic (roughly chopped)
1 cup flat leaf parsley OR cilantro/coriander leaves
1/2 cup almond flour/meal (50g) OR bread crumbs
Salt to taste
1 to 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder (OPTIONAL)
1 teaspoon Cayenne pepper OR Indian red chili powder OR 2 green chilles OR Chili flakes (OPTIONAL)
1 teaspoon cumin powder
1 teaspoon black pepper powder
Juice of 1 lime OR 1 lemon OR to your taste
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
Vegetables: (you can use any vegetable of you choice)
1 teaspoon cooking oil
1 medium onion (grated - about 1 cup approx.)
1 medium potato (grated - about 1 cup approx.)
1 medium carrot (grated - about 1 cup approx.)
1 cup cabbage (grated/finely chopped)
Salt to taste
1/2 cup cooking oil for frying

I made them into round patties and omitted the oil. Baked at 425° for roughly 25 minutes, this worked for me just fine and they came out golden brown. They were delicious and Grandkids approved.

You can freeze those in an airtight container, after shaping, placing pieces of parchment paper between them. They'll last for up to three months and you can bake them straight from the freezer, at 200 C or 180 C fan, for about 40 minutes.

I just made this today, very delicious! I made a few substitutions, instead of the almond flour I used a 1/2 cup cooked quinoa, which I made on the dry side so it was very fluffy and not watery, did add smashed garlic to the cooking process so omitted more garlic when processing it later with everything else. For the vegetables I used carrot, brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower and spinach (pan sauteed separately, squeezed out liquid, chopped then added to rest of vegetable mixture), all I had small amounts left in the fridg so chucked it all in, so skipped the potato. Seasonings I used were garam masala, cayenne, chili flakes, coriander, cumin, grated fresh ginger, salt & pepper and juice of 1 lime. Like other commenters, I chose to bake in a 425 degree oven for 25 minutes, and shaped in patties, which I flipped after 15 minutes. Came out great! Thanks!

Hey guys, read the recipe under the description, it has alternatives for the almond flour, I used bread crumbs and it turned out fine. They absorb a lot of oil so use just enough in the pan, a couple of teaspoons were enough for me. They were good eaten immediately after frying, but I actually found the texture even better after they sat for ten or so minutes. Great recipe, I'm going to make burger patty sized ones next time for vegan burgers.

If you have arthritis and are having difficulty writing down the steps, here's my version, which I hope has no errors. RED LENTIL "KEBAB" by Food Impromptu 4 servings INGREDIENTS: 1 cup red lentils (200g) (soaked for 20 - 25 mins) Vegetable Quartet: (you can use any vegetable of your choice) 1 tsp cooking oil 1 medium onion (grated - about 1 cup approx.) 1 medium potato (grated - about 1 cup approx.) 1 medium carrot (grated - about 1 cup approx.) 1 cup cabbage (grated/finely chopped) 1/2 tsp salt, or salt to taste Lentil Blend: 1 inch of ginger (roughly chopped) 4 cloves of garlic (roughly chopped) 1 cup flat leaf parsley OR cilantro/coriander leaves 1/2 cup almond flour/meal (50g) OR whole cashew nuts OR bread crumbs 1 tsp cumin powder 1 tsp salt, or salt to taste 1 tsp black pepper powder 1 tsp cayenne pepper OR Indian red chili powder OR 2 green chilles OR chili flakes 1 tsp garam masala powder (OPTIONAL) Juice of 1 lime OR 1 lemon OR to your taste Final Steps: 1/4 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 cup cooking oil for frying DIRECTIONS: 1. LENTILS Rinse lentils clean. Place lentils in a bowl and soak for 20-25 minutes. Strain and set aside. 2. VEGETABLE QUARTET Prepare vegetable quartet (onion, potato, carrot, cabbage) by grating/chopping. (You can substitute other vegetables if preferred.) Heat a pan (medium-high heat) and add 1 tsp cooking oil. Add grated vegetables into pan. Add 1/2 tsp salt (or salt to taste), mix well, cook out extra moisture (4 to 5 minutes) so the meal won't wind up soggy. Set pan aside to cool. 3. LENTIL BLEND Dab lentils with paper towel to remove extra moisture. Prepare lentil blend friends (ginger, garlic, parsley) by roughly chopping. Measure almond flour, cayenne pepper, cumin, salt, black pepper, garam masala. Halve a lemon or lime. Put all these lentil-blend ingredients into your blender or food processor, squeezing in the juice of your whole lime or lemon. Blend, pausing halfway through to tuck food down with a spatula and help mix it up. Do not blend too much; avoid a "paste" consistency... you want your mix to retain some texture. 4. COME TOGETHER In a large mixing bowl, combine the lentil blend and the vegetable quartet. Add 1/4 tsp baking soda. Mix well. Put a few drops of oil on your hand, and rub hands together. Take 1 to 2 tblsp's worth of the kebab mix into your hand and press into slightly-flattened oval shape (or shape of your choice). (Small oval shapes will make 25 to 30 kebabs.) 5. FRY Heat pan to medium or medium-high heat, and add 1/2 cup canola oil or other cooking oil. Test the temperature of the oil by dropping a small amount of your mixture into the pan. You want it to bubble but not burn. Place your kebabs into the pan and cook for 3 to 4 minutes on each side. Finished sides should be nicely browned. Plate and serve, or use in sandwiches, wraps, salads, appetizers, etc.

Eventually, all words become politicized and hijacked by ideology. Vegan in cooking simply means “no animal products.” Nothing to be afraid of. It’s the same as reacting to the term “Russian” or “Japanese” or “German” in front of the word recipe. If you like the ingredients, that’s all that matters.

I made this tonight and it didn't turn out the greatest so I re-listened to the video and think I should have processed it in the food processor longer than I did. Also, my food processor is 'medium' sized and I realized I needed to split the mixture into two in order to process it all. I baked some and fried a few in coconut oil. I will make this again and bake them all as I prefer to avoid the oil. I baked them on parchment paper and that worked well. I anticipate it will work better on the second try!

Great video, helpful reviews. Made myself some today by baking them. Lowered the heat as my oven is powerful, I'd rather have it cooked at lower for longer than burnt quickly and undercooked. Substituted cabbage with brussel sprouts that I had lying around. Didn't have any potatoes or carrots on hand, so my mixture was more crumbly and didn't hold well. I pulsed some of the lentils to be more paste like and added about 2 tbs of olive oil, just so they can hold together. Tasted amazing, also suggest using fresh chillies if possible!

When you run to the kitchen out of excitement cus you have all the ingredients 😂 These are SO good! They look quite like hamburger patties once fried. If you've had them before, they are equivalent to Falafels. I didn't have almond flour so i substituted sesame seeds, which gave them a slight smoky nutty flavor. I bet they will be delicious with BBQ sauce. Now i will say, i doubled the recipe so i was quite tired by the time i was and that's how my quarter sized balls happened. I will use them in my kale salad. Thank YOU!

I'm also glad to hear it's good without using that insane amount of oil... now I'm wondering why these need to be cooked at all - most of these ingredients are much healthier eaten raw. BTW Angie you will notice that getting more than 15% or so of your food intake as fat will start to make you feel sluggish, unless you're in ketosis.

Honestly, you have the best viewer here!! What helpful comments your viewers have written! The variations and additions written in the comments show how versatile this recipe is. My hint: If you don't want to use oil, and don't have an air fryer or any (expensive)Parchment paper, use a baking rack placed on a cookie sheet, then bake in the oven (maybe 375 degrees...guessing here). No oil needed. No Parchment paper needed.

Just made it. Fantastic. I fried mine but saved some to grill in the oven to taste the difference. I was a bit worried using all the spices and used Kashmiry Chili Powder which I bought yesterday here in an Indian shop in South Africa. These patties/kebabs have a lovely spicy flavour. Not hot, just slowly lingering in your mouth. This will become a regular meal in my house. I'm a subscriber now. Thank you!

I made these exactly as the recipe is written and the were DEVOURED by my dinner guests. They are packed with flavor and just enough heat. So so good. Served them with tabbouli salad, humus and pita. A vegan yogurt based sauce might be nice with them but that is an extra not a necessity. I like another commenter's idea of flattening them out a little and using them as burger patties. I will try that next.

Rita T Yes, the voice is very clear, though accent sound forced: but, the narrator should let the cook herself ( I think it’s a lady); also say something, so we know that the cook is different than the narrator. The Kebabs though sound delicious and, healthy! Seeing the cooks’ hands, I remembered myself, that even though I got arthritis in my hands, but I still did cook a lot. Just shows arthritis or age doesn’t stop anyone do what they really want to do. Good Job!

I noticed something different in this video as well. Instructions are still clear, however the pitch in her voice is a bit different from the other videos...as if she tried to sound a bit more energetic..? Unfortunately, it was a bit annoying to hear as it was a louder/forced. Please don’t change your soft, soothing voice / communication style. I absolutely love your recipes, how objectively you explain them, and especially your soothing calm voice.
