When Red Dead Redemption launched in 2010 it was met with critical acclaim and became an instant classic. This put Rockstar in a difficult spot. Everyone wanted, needed, and would buy a sequel, but how do you make a sequel that lives up to the hype? Well, today we look at what worked and didn't work about Red Dead Redemption and how Rockstar can tweak it to make Read Dead Redemption 2 meet and exceed every expectation.

It’s interesting that the one of first things John hears on the train is the conversation between the priest and Jenny. Jenny brings up flying machines and the priest tells her “only angels can fly.” The very last conversation John has before shit hits the fan is with Jack. John asks Jack if he’s heard about flying machines and Jack tells him “they turn men into angels.”

David Land Doesn’t apply to what I’m saying. KZread isn’t a reliable source of income and can be pulled from you or lost at any point. More respect for not monetizing a great video and allowing your audience to enjoy it as intended. No obnoxious, poorly placed ads every five minutes for a product or any number of things that nobody gives a shit about. May as well just turn the video off for five seconds or longer every few minutes. A job can pay for your KZread channel and in turn Net you more cash. He states at the end that he has a patreon. Anybody who wants to support him can on their own terms without having a shitty advertisement shoved down their throat. But yeah, gEt A jUrB.

So as a young man I was raised without a father or ANY strong male role model. I ended up emulating Clint Eastwood and all the great Spaghetti westerns of the '60's and 70's. As a child of the eighties the western thing wasn't all that huge yet, so I felt like an outcast. I always wanted to be that mysterious and dangerous gunslinger who was always one step away from being a villain . This game allowed me to be that man. For that reason it will always be the greatest title of all time in my eyes!

When I first played RDR1 I was quite young and didn’t really understand why so many had such a high opinion of it but playing it through some years later when I had matured a bit more I realised it was the overall atmosphere and world the game creates; the soundtrack, characters, random encounters, the actual map and the way it’s laid out, even down to the way people talk it feel like everything was fine tuned to make you feel like you are really living in the last days of the Wild West. I can’t think of many games that base themselves off a certain era in time and do it as well as red dead redemption did

I actually think the game was designed around auto-snap aiming because it actually delivers experiences (not skill based ones) that are more cinematic and thematically appropriate. Yes, it sacrifices skill for this, and maybe that's a bad trade-off.

Rockstar games are cinematic experiences + sandbox games, if anyone looking for a high skill ceiling game, yeah.. that's their fault. Games are an extremely diversive artform and should be appreciated the way they are intended to be, and imo they are masterpieces. Sadly the multiplayers are pretty greedy basic mainstream moneymakers, but if they keep making games like rdr2 I can handle them making billions with gta online lol

@@TeenageMutantZuckerTurtle Its still better than allot of Open World games and does some Things better than RDR2 like Shooting people on the leg But Yeah RDR2 is on another level with its open world and story. RDR1 is still a great story. I am currently playing GTA4 again it really holds up the Phyics, The choices you can make which lead to different side quests findimg the side quests gives a sense of discovery as they are hidden. Going on dates and if you cheat on The likes of Kiki she fucks up your car. Hanging out with Friends adds to Niko and will offten give you more back story. The main story is great and makes it great over all. Theres things GTA5 does better and things San Andreas does better but they are worth playing. RDR2 really surpasses RDR1 with its side quests, Random encounters, NPC interaction, wildlife, Hand to hand combat, Leval of detail, exploration and disovery, Horse riding, Graphics, The honour system has more of an impact on the story of arthur, The chracters and story are more fleashed out. So I do think unlike GTA4, San andreas and GTA5 which are quite differnt, RDR2 being a sequel as far as the open world goes really surpasses it But at the very least its still great. I RDR2 gave me the same feeling I got playing RDR1 for first time I was blown away by it at the time.

I think RDR1 and RDR2 are the only games I like more than The Witcher 3. Witcher series is fantasy and really well written coming from novels but RDR just has this intimate story told over this sprawling adventure. I'm not a huge Rockstar fanboy all the time, I find the GTA series a little too juvenile in it's humor but RDR just hits a really solemn, touching feeling while still slipping in some humor that's silly but not too childish. I think it's the best balance I've seen. And Undead Nightmare is my favorite expansion that's ever been released. RDR2 is always what I use when I talk with friends who don't play games about how amazing their narrative can actually be.

Such a fantastic game. I don’t get all these fans ranking the two Red Deads... for their time, they’re both ahead of it.. both products of it.. they’re equal in their own right. I view the RD titles as R*’s hobby rather than their career (GTA). You can tell they just have so much more fun with them based on the overall research that goes into making the environment and aesthetics so nostalgic and accurate. I hope they continue to make more of these. I personally would like to see a remaster of the original! I think we all deserve to see Dutch die with this new technology after them having put us through that emotional rollercoaster of RDR2.

Oh, I love the pretense that you put on about explaining the intro to the game, like we've never played this game before.

Hey Luke, I really enjoyed your video, discussion and critique. Very well edited and narrated. Keep it up man☺. Hope to see your channel grow. Also is there any other game you wish Rockstar should make, open world specifically? For me something into sci-fi would be cool. Love to hear your thoughts.

They are allegedly working on a game called "Agent," which would be a big spy thriller but done in a rockstar way. I'm super excited for that if it ever sees the light of day!

I'm very nervous for RDR2. It's got big shoes to fill. Lots of expectations on that game. It's always hard to follow up a game like that. I mean they've done so many times with GTA vice city, san andreas, 4 and 5 all being better than the last. But Rockstar has changed this generation. Gaming has changed this generation. This is the first release of theirs this generation. I have no doubt it will be great. But will RDR2 be "the next" RDR? I have to say I'm a little worried.

Honestly I'm not even worried. It's Rockstar we're talking about. They will knock it out of the park as usual.

Joel Rosario welp, thankfully, there was nothing to worry about. RDR2 definitely filled those shoes and then some. GOAT

"for the upcoming RDR2" Oh lawd if I could only go back to that cold winter night when I first saw the opening card "the year is 1899 and the age of outlaws is nearly at an end". Truly an unforgettable gaming experience.

Theory: Bonnie was originally intended to be a much larger character instead of basically a one-off tutorial giver. Evidence by the hints of romantic intrest she seems to show to John Marston in the first few cutscenes with the two. (as for why she's on the train)

Calling Bonnie a "one off tutorial character" makes it look like youve never played the game. She is most certainly NOT a one off character.

What you say at around 29:30 is amazing. Everything you said they could have included with the hunting was included in RDR2.
