    Thank You - I appreciate your clear explanation and your playing. I have an H2 that has been on the shelf for a while, and I do weekly recordings at church using my iPhone, so it was my first thought to record an upcoming Christmas contada, but I was having problems getting it to record stereo. Your simple explanation of mixer 2-track line out to H2 will be my best solution.

    Björn Sigurd Klowski Hello! The best way to set your gain is to use the meters on the unit, they are pretty accurate while during monitoring. I tend to steer away from suggesting gain settings because there are so many variables between voices and equipment. Make sure you use headphones when making adjustments, I suggest using them whenever possible. They will help you with background noise and the noise floor when making your recordings. Good luck, My H2n has been invaluable!

    This question may be confusing, but say I am recording something on the Zoom H2N, and I want the effects from a Boss RC-505 Loopstation on that recording. How do I take that recording and add the desired effects without having to listen through and record the whole say 16 minute talk? This is where I am confused, because each time I record onto tye Zoom, I have to then record again through the Boss looper into the DAW to have the effects on that recording. How can I take that wav file recording, and put those effects from the Boss RC-505 onto that recording? I can't figure this out?...SBN RESONATE

    Hi Trace, your video is much appreciated. I do multi-camera video recordings of a Native American church service, and was wondering: Will it also work to plug-in to the headphone-out jack on a mixer (for instance, from an Allen & Heath Mix Wizard 16Us) to the line-in of an H2n?

  • @CaneMajor

    @CaneMajor

    10 жыл бұрын

    Hello! Yes the headphone output jack will work as well! I was going to mention that in the video. The only problem is with the H1 you can't monitor from the line in jack, just the built in mics. With the H2n you may experience a slight amount of latency or chorus effect when you monitor from its headphone jack. Just keep an eye on the meters and you should be fine.Good luck with your projects!

My question is, on the mixer, there is a couple of phono jacks "tape in & tape out" and at the rear, a couple of 1/4 jacks "control room out" I connected the ZOOM to both of these ( not at the same time ) trying to get the signal from the mic to the ZOOM through the mixer but I couldn't get any signal to the ZOOM recorder. Everything else was connected properly but, I 'm not sure where I have to do the connection on the mixer in order to get the signal so, it can be recorded by the ZOOM. Does it make sense ?? THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!

  • @CaneMajor

    @CaneMajor

    +gustavo moreno Hi! The best way to connect your Q3 to your mixer is through the "2-TRACK/USB OUTPUT" jacks, in the top right corner above the heaphone jack, to the line in jack on the Q3. Then in the SOURCE box push in the red 2-TR/USB button. And then Push in the red 2-TR/USB to main button under the PHONES knob. Then adjust the MAIN MIX sliders. If you use the ALT 3-4 jacks on the back push in the ALT 3-4 button in the SOURCE box. And adjust the ALT 3-4 and MAIN MIX sliders. Try those and let me know how it works out.

What I do is set the levels on the mixer first to get a nice healthy signal then adjust the gain on the recorder to peak with a little room below maximum on the meter. That gives me a good signal with no distortion. Good luck!

    Can you record just the line out analog signals ? Can you turn off the microphones so that only the sound of the analog is recorded ? and not any ambience sound ? Or does it record in separate tracks ? Thank you :)

I had no idea! Thanks for the question!

    @@CaneMajor Great :) i will be getting mine this week, its one the way. @@BoomerStories If you are trying to pick up the whole stage the XY pattern is the best. Headphones will be helpful when adjusting your settings. I've never had a problem with high pitch sounds. The only problem I did have was with a band. I was a little close to the drums and all of the highs from the drums overpowered everything else.

I have Roland Cube 40xl(Amplifier) And a Roland SP404 SX Sampler and Pattern sequencer .. i want to record beatboxing ...will it be possible if i connect my Mic to the sampler .. then connect the sampler to my Amplifier and then finally get the output on the Zoom H1 ?? Thank you In advance :)

    Siddharth The wanderlens Hello! Thanks for the complement! Yes you can record to your Zoom H1 exactly the way you described! You may have to record from your Cube Amp's headphone jack into your H1 because the line out jacks may be too hot. Monitor using headphones plugged into your H1 and adjust the H1's input level to get the best sound. Good luck and let me know how it turns out! Cheers!

    Siddharth The wanderlens The line out jack should be ok. Some amps and mixers have powered line outs. I always recommend starting with the headphone jack as a precaution. The Roland micro amps should be ok recording to the H1 from it's line out jack.

    Is there a way to record live radio off of your laptop onto the H2n Zoom? My friend is being interviewed and I would like to record it. If so, which cable do I use? A USB or a 3-band aux? I tried plugging from my laptop headphone jack to the line-in on the zoom. It looked like it was recording, but when I played it back, it was recording me.

    Hello! Try setting the recorder to X/Y recording pattern mode. That should isolate the Aux jack. Then make the adjustments to the volume out and the input gain on the recorder to get the best signal. Let me know how it works out. In the mean time I'm going to test it here. If I learn anything else I'll let you know. Good luck!

    OK! I just test flew the setup! You have to use a battery to power the H2n or a DC USB power adapter. If you use the USB jack from your computer the H2n will only give you the choice to read the files or use it as an external mic. When you are recording from the line in jack on your H2n you should see a picture of a wired microphone in the top left corner of the screen. And make sure you are set to record in the X/Y pattern. Cheers!

    My Zoom H1 has the option to choose the record format in either WAV or MP3. I hope to export the recording into my NLE (Sony Movie Studio.) Which is the preferred recording format and why? Thanks!

  • @CaneMajor

    @CaneMajor

    +super8guy Hello! I use Sony Movie studio as well! Whenever I record any audio for my videos I always record in WAV format. A WAV will produce a much more detailed recording and if you are going to upload the video to KZread your audio will be compressed automatically. So if you recorded in MP3 after KZread compresses it the quality of your audio could drop dramatically. Good luck!

    I ended up buying the Zoom H2n digital recorder and connected it to my mixer just as you demonstrated. Everything worked fine but still didn't get as good of sound as you did on this video. Was just wondering if you did any computer editing of the audio or did you just take the audio straight from the sound card from the Zoom H2n? My Mackie Mixer has some nice reverb effects but again, my sound of recording trumpet did not come close to yours. I made sure all the levels on the mixer and H2n were correct. Any suggestions would be appreciated! I also used a Fat Head ribbon mic.

    Did I miss something or is there no mention made of how to set the device to receive a stereo input from source ? We want to get some Garage Band files on to the Zoom and only hear one side of the stereo feed. I think there might be a setting of the microphone selector that switches the input from mono one side to full stereo. Any idea where that might be ?

  • @CaneMajor

    The machine defaults to stereo when using it's input jacks. If you are not using a stereo output you will need a mono to stereo cable to record to the left and right channels.

    Hmm, thanks for the speedy reply. I confess to a mea culpa: my wife is a well known Bluegrass recording artist and travels he gear around the planet. The aux cord she produced from her road kit turned out to be faulty and was shorting one channel to ground. So that was the solution to today's issue. However, in the past, I seem to recall having had the same issue and seem to recall reading a post saying that the selection the microphone pattern has an effect on the stereo / mono default. Not sure if you can confirm or deny, but I do appreciate both the timeliness and accuracy of this reply. Cheers! BTW, my wife is 3-time Grammy nominee Claire Lynch, of you like Bluegrass. (I'm shameless).
