Rebuilding my Air Compressor with

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is part 3 of my air compressor rebuild project. I have 3 items still needing addressed. A check valve installed, an oil leak fixed and a safety shroud installed. Hopefully this wraps up this project, at least for now. This video completes about 99% of the project. But not without some hiccups along the way. Please join me while I work my way through a few issues to get the new rebuilt air compressor working great! Please consider subscribing and if you enjoy the video, give it a like!

I have a really old and really big compressor that I adopted when I bought my house. It's been a big learning curve since the last compressor I had was a 2 gallon made to run a finish nailer. Nice project- I hope it meets all of your needs.

Hello my friend, To facilitate the replacement of the used oil in the engine block I put a ball valve with a small pipe for the flow in place of the screw which is always badly screwed up, simpler and no more oil everywhere. the compressor, weigh, package and recycle. Best regards Alain from Belgium.

The name of the slotted steel is "Dexion" slotted angle steel strip Copyright 1937. I would replace the regulator, just to guarantee the CFM and get the gauges visible.

I enjoyed watching you rebuild your old compressor, at a time I was crying about having to buy a new compressor because my old one died suddenly. But I saw you removing a bolt (or drain plug) to be able to change your oil, and it reminded me of a brass fitting I saw at Lowes. It is actually a hose adapter for a pipe connection - it threads in like your drain plug but on the other side is a slide (?) adapter for a smaller, flexible hose. I was thinking you could use this adapter to connect a small piece of hose that is long enough to clear the side of the tank, and connect a ball valve that you could later use to connect a longer hose to reach into your bottle to help you drain the oil much better. I hope i explained that right. The adapter i saw was in the pipe and plumbing area of lowes.

Most compressors have an unloader valve to drop the head pressure once the compressor tank reaches set pressure. Thats what the hole is in the new check valves you bought is for that you kept plugging. Compressor source has a channel and a website for all your needs

You really should install a threaded pipe sticking out with a cap or valve on it for changing the oil.

You said you had trouble finding a check valve. I just looked online under air compressor check valves and found lots of them. And like I said earlier, move those gauges out so you can see them better. And put some expanded metal around the sides and bottom of that cage.

You really do need to put an unloader on that. The pressure that's in the pipe after shutting off the motor is slowly coming back through the pump because you don't have an unloader! If that check valve has a bleeder on it then run a tube over to the unloader that's on the power switch.

You really need to get an unloader hooked up to unload that head pressure . That pump won't last long like that. The pump hands off to the check valve , The check valve hands off to the unloader at the pressure switch

I bought the same air compressor only a Dewalt. They said NOT to take it back to the store for any problems/service---- had a phone number to call. I called the number and was shocked when they answered, "Campbell Hausfield". The rep. explained that they paint many different names on their compressors for different c;customers.. So I don't only think my Dewalt is junk; all compressors of that design are junk. 8 minutes to get the tank up to pressure is way to long to wait. The only place I found the HP rating was on a 1/4x2 sticker down near the bottom; so I missed it at the store and Ass-of-me (assumed ) it to be much more HP than what I got. The drain is impossible to reach. I planned on buying the 60 gal stationary compressor, but I saw this 30 gal portable one and thought it would be better for my farm. The compressor weighs over 200 lb. With everything mounted on the top, it is very top heavy and impossible to roll through any surface that is not solid and smooth. The old horizontal tank compressors were much easier to move around. I am hesitant to purchase anything from HF that has electricity or many moving parts, but I guess I will have to duplicate the work you did on yours.

@@englishcustomworkshop6503 That is an odd one, have heard of some very unique sizes before. I got out my calipers and measured mine, came out to 22.5mm or 29/32nds. My 7/8" worked but had a very small amount of play to it. Crescent wrench to the rescue, lol. Thanks for the content, enjoyed watching the build.

You plugged the bleed (unloader) hole in the check valve. The bleed hole should be connected to the pressure switch to dump the pressure between the CV and the compressor. The check valve is working just fine, you haven't connected it correctly. You need to stop buying parts and do some research on how the compressor should be plumbed.

  • @englishcustomworkshop6503

This is interesting. But i dont know if its true in my situation. 1st. Yes. I know my newest valve does work just fine. But the first one i bought was not. The original valve i had to reuse is also good. 2nd. The reason im not sure this applies to my situation is because my pressure switch has no additional hookups. And neither does the original check valve. So that system doesnt utilize an unloader valve or has one built into the overpressure valve already built into it. I would have to get a new pressure switch that is compatible with the port on the check valve.

@@englishcustomworkshop6503 The original pump may have had a built in unloaded valve. It's not as common now as it was twenty or thirty years ago, but some pumps have unloader valves built in. Most of them that did were two stage. All the compressors I've owned including the one I built when I was in fifth grade using a refrigeration pump, had the unloader in the pressure switch. Its fussy to hook up with the extra plumbing, but it works really well.
