    I'm not gonna be a good source of info on these questions. I took the cover off last fall and put my toolbox back in. I swapped them out again this spring for a trip. I only use it for traveling. And I usually keep my truck in a covered shop when not using so sun damage is a minimum to my truck. The only trouble i have i believe I talked about at the end of the video. It will jam a little while retracting due to uneven reeling in. Lightly oiling the running wipers fixes this. Dusty enviroments makes this worse

    You said you had trouble finding a check valve. I just looked online under air compressor check valves and found lots of them. And like I said earlier, move those gauges out so you can see them better. And put some expanded metal around the sides and bottom of that cage.

    You really do need to put an unloader on that. The pressure that's in the pipe after shutting off the motor is slowly coming back through the pump because you don't have an unloader! If that check valve has a bleeder on it then run a tube over to the unloader that's on the power switch.

    If you had mounted the motor on the other side of pump it wouldn't be so crowded to work in there. The access points you need would be on the outside out in the open. Usually there is an arrow on the pump pulley pointing which way it should turn.

    The pulies should be on the back not on the front. I would also highly recommend moving the whole manifold setup farther away from the moving parts bringing them outward using pipe elbows. And you must be missing a check valve going into the tank. That's why it is leaking backwards through the pump and coming out of that vent. You may also want to add an unloader to that system. It will make it easier for the pump to start up in cold weather.

    You don't have to mount those items on to the tank if you don't want to. My dad's first big air compressor was in two separate units. The motor and pump were on one platform and only connected to the tank with a hose sitting side-by-side.

    I bought the same air compressor only a Dewalt. They said NOT to take it back to the store for any problems/service---- had a phone number to call. I called the number and was shocked when they answered, "Campbell Hausfield". The rep. explained that they paint many different names on their compressors for different c;customers.. So I don't only think my Dewalt is junk; all compressors of that design are junk. 8 minutes to get the tank up to pressure is way to long to wait. The only place I found the HP rating was on a 1/4x2 sticker down near the bottom; so I missed it at the store and Ass-of-me (assumed ) it to be much more HP than what I got. The drain is impossible to reach. I planned on buying the 60 gal stationary compressor, but I saw this 30 gal portable one and thought it would be better for my farm. The compressor weighs over 200 lb. With everything mounted on the top, it is very top heavy and impossible to roll through any surface that is not solid and smooth. The old horizontal tank compressors were much easier to move around. I am hesitant to purchase anything from HF that has electricity or many moving parts, but I guess I will have to duplicate the work you did on yours.

    I did a similar conversion myself, I found out half way through that altering the handle and mounting the pump/motor assembly facing the handle was a lot safer than having moving belts above the power switch and air outlet. Cut the handle and used some heavy conduit L's and pipe to bring it out about 6"-7" for safety, with a cage.

    Sure you have already figured this out but just for future reference. There are different types of threading used. NPT and what I call straight threads cause I can't remember the abbreviation but if you have compression style it won't be NPT cause NPT are tapered, just research it and it will be explained and will save you much frustration in the future, this was my dilemma also and how I learned it. Also you can make any size V belt you need by splicing it together and it works great for your application. I spliced a belt for my drill press 5 years ago and it's still going strong. I watched a you tube video to figure out the best method . Great video btw

    It sure looks like the big pulley is either mounted backwards on the pump or the pump is supposed to run in the other direction. I surmised that fact due to the fan blades should be blowing toward the pump motor.

    I enjoyed watching you rebuild your old compressor, at a time I was crying about having to buy a new compressor because my old one died suddenly. But I saw you removing a bolt (or drain plug) to be able to change your oil, and it reminded me of a brass fitting I saw at Lowes. It is actually a hose adapter for a pipe connection - it threads in like your drain plug but on the other side is a slide (?) adapter for a smaller, flexible hose. I was thinking you could use this adapter to connect a small piece of hose that is long enough to clear the side of the tank, and connect a ball valve that you could later use to connect a longer hose to reach into your bottle to help you drain the oil much better. I hope i explained that right. The adapter i saw was in the pipe and plumbing area of lowes.

    The money you spent on the motor and the pump you could have just bought a new compressor. What u did was bought two sandborne blackmax 3 hp belt driven compressors for seventy bucks each. I got a 60 gal tank and a 33 gallon tank for 125 for both. I synchronized to cut in and out and run them at the same time. For about 300 bucks i got 93 gallons of air and about 16 cfms. The set up works great and because its two it keeps the water to a minimum.

    That is a great way to move the logs. Instead of putting both strap eyes onto the hook, run one eye through the other side, it all the way down the strap in the center of the top of the log, and you only put one eye on the hook. You don't even need the chain no more short strap you could use hold tight , and one eye on the hook, but cool great job

  • @englishcustomworkshop6503
    @englishcustomworkshop65032 ай бұрын

    Great thought about the strap. I actually considered this as I was watching myself during editing. The configuration I have is the "basket" vs. what you describe is the "choker". I will try this next use. I will stay with the chain use though. Mainly because of the extreme weight of these logs would beat the winch to death bouncing across the ground. It would be pulling directly against the winch. Its life span would greatly shorten. And, I do not have the winch mounted to the steel in a way to take a lot of abuse.

    You plugged the bleed (unloader) hole in the check valve. The bleed hole should be connected to the pressure switch to dump the pressure between the CV and the compressor. The check valve is working just fine, you haven't connected it correctly. You need to stop buying parts and do some research on how the compressor should be plumbed.

  • @englishcustomworkshop6503
    @englishcustomworkshop65033 ай бұрын

    This is interesting. But i dont know if its true in my situation. 1st. Yes. I know my newest valve does work just fine. But the first one i bought was not. The original valve i had to reuse is also good. 2nd. The reason im not sure this applies to my situation is because my pressure switch has no additional hookups. And neither does the original check valve. So that system doesnt utilize an unloader valve or has one built into the overpressure valve already built into it. I would have to get a new pressure switch that is compatible with the port on the check valve.

    @@englishcustomworkshop6503 The original pump may have had a built in unloaded valve. It's not as common now as it was twenty or thirty years ago, but some pumps have unloader valves built in. Most of them that did were two stage. All the compressors I've owned including the one I built when I was in fifth grade using a refrigeration pump, had the unloader in the pressure switch. Its fussy to hook up with the extra plumbing, but it works really well.
