Rebel Moon 2 - Made By Morons For Morons (Review)

Ойын-сауық

Rebel Moon Part 2 just released on Netflix and I think it is even worse than Rebel Moon Part 1. In this Rebel Moon Part 2 review I detail all the reasons this film sucks. But also what's crazy is that Zack Snyder ignored all of The critiques made by The Critical Drinker and doubled down on everything that ruined the first Rebel Moon film. But this comes as no surprise as he said in a recent interview that he refuses to listen to critics on the internet, but clearly that would actually help him, because he doesn't seem to realise why his movies aren't resonating with audiences.

The WTF 😖 of part 2. - The wheat harvest is slowing down... too... too long. - KORA tells Gunnar her story: she killed Princess ISSA and her father betrayed her and accused her of being a murderer. - NEMESIS tells her story: she cuts off her arms to put on prosthetics...she tolerates the pain well... - The Empire sends hundreds of ships, tanks, hundreds of soldiers and they miss their target. - JIMMY faces the tank in front of soldiers who do not shoot, one more tank shot from Jimmy... - KORA tenses up in a room which controls the Cannons, no guards, yes one who does not retaliate. - Useless slow motion combat - The end dialogue between KORA and TITUS he tells him that Princess ISSA is still alive !?

I watched the reviews from Drinker & Disparu, Jesse - the latter's review for Part 2 showed me that the man couldn't even film harvesting in the proper order- let alone craft the nuances & complexities necessary for a modern space epic, such as he's supposedly imagining. I found myself screaming, "That is *not* the order of how you harvest a crop!" You reap first, bind the sheaves into bundles, stook - stand the bundles up to dry in the field [which they don't do], cart the grain, glean the leftovers, & then thresh & winnow near the grain store, so you don't have to move it as far. "You don't thresh or winnow in the middle of the f^cking field *_while_* the harvest is still going! What the f^ck?!" Oh, & harvested grain was usually left as grain until needed for use, because it lasted _longer_ in that form -- hope you lot like the taste of weevils & rancid flour... And it's just such a stupid premise in the first movie; an imperial commander getting pissy about some inconsequential village wanting to do *the normal thing* & keep some of their harvest back for next season's planting- & him stupidly wanting to wipe them out because of that?! It's one lousy village - take what they're able to offer, & then go to the next village on the sh^tty _farm _*_planet_* /moon- whatever, & if you don't get your desired total allotment from the one- go to the next 'farming planet' in your vicinity, & just keep tallying it up 'til you hit your necessary total -- it can't *possibly* be the only place to get grain- on the planet, nor in the galaxy - & *what* value is there in killing a workforce? '10 Commandments' said it best: "Men make bricks - the strong make many - the weak make few; the dead make none." This isn't even getting into the actual **big** issues of characters, characterisation, dialogue, or action -- it's _just_ in relation to the initial premise, & then the harvesting. Seriously, it's just a *highly* flawed premise, from the get-go...

His level of dismissiveness to the valid length of online constructive criticisms for his work is rude and offensive. A ton of advertising is done online. But if he’s gonna turn around and be rude and disrespectful, completely dismissing constructive criticism that’s found on the Internet, the Internet doesn’t deserve to advertise or promote movie.

Came very close to working on Watchmen, but was pulled onto another project. My instructor worked with Snyder continuously. From what I can tell, Zack is good at making music videos, and that's about it. If what he produces has to be like a music video, then we're golden. But anything more complex than that and it stops working entirely. His big hit was 300, because it was visually different, and most importantly, it was made cheaply, thanks to greenscreens. It make the director look like a sure-thing money guy. You bet on him and he does something amazing for pennies. That's what every producer wants. So, they pile on. Sign him up for a ton of shows, but he keeps making the same damn slow motion music video with pointless eye candy. As a director, he doesn't seem to evolve at all. Maybe some people would watch his films just for his signature CG look, but it's getting rather costly to produce, and returns are diminishing. Zack has overstayed his welcome. Each "try" costs producers money. His costs go up. His returns go down. His ego... well... I think he thinks he's good, but that's because he's surrounded by "yes" men at this point. Nobody says no to him, aside from internet critics.

But nowhere in any interview, in any online response or tweet, has he attacked the Critical Drinker. Jesse, if you're going to be an online journalist type channel please do your research and don't mislead your audience with clickbait titles. That's what Hollywood does with fake-out trailers and misleading advertising. You need to be better than that. Some Directors are really great when supervised. Then you give them unlimited creative control and access to the writing and they go to shit. Example: Wonder Woman was really good in my opinion, the Director was given left and right limits and the film did well... so well on 1984 they unleashed her to the world giving basically unlimited creative control and she made a shit show of a film. Zack Snyder may have done so well as a Director it was to his own detriment. They gave him too much control.

I think he just needs to make his movies into series with multiple writers that clearly understand his vision and can better articulate it into a story that makes your heart pound and skip a few beats. Zack to me is a visionary and sometimes visionary can see it but can’t put the words or structure or even heart of it on to paper, he needs a partner to help him hone in his craft. I think rebel moon is a project personal in regards to his lost. I think rebel Moon Is a great idea and concept and its definitely is not horrible, just missing the heart in the writhing and the proper structure to feel each scene.

The only way Zach Snyder will get better is for him to get off of his high horse and humble himself. Only then will he listen to the fans and MAYBE he will see things as they really are. Then he can correct his mistakes and become better at what he does. I seriously doubt this will happen.

Being the devil's advocate: So many movie sequels are made back-to- back or even the same time that I don't think course correction is possible. Also, constant course correction was what made WB DC movies suck, even when Snyder left. My suggestion is that people should listen previous criticism before they even start a movie, and producers should stop creating trilogies and cinematic universes before even a single movie comes out from that franchise. WB's greatest achievement was to through the cinematic universe out, say fuck it, and let totally independent projects, Joker, the last Batman, and the second Suicide Squad happen.

Since vampire movies are making a comeback (sort of) my wish for a vampire movie is a rated R movie titled. Elizabeth Bathory The Blood Countess and it's directed by Guillermo Del Toro and the infamous historic figure/monster is performed by Hayley Atwell. Well she really isn't a vampire the only reason why she is called The Blood Countess is because of the vile, horrific, and disgusting antics that she done with young women/girls.

Rebel Moon felt like a bunch of concepts slapped together since it was an original SW pitch, but then he never took the time to carefully craft the elements of this movie together to make it make sense. It was a very lazy execution of a film. Not even a Snyder cut can redeem this film.

How can a director hurt you so bad you make up stories about him just to hurt his image. I don't watch a Scorsese film for action or watch a Nolan film for typical linear story telling. There's something really messed up about guys like this.

I lost interest in Rebel Moon part 1 and didn't see it to the end. The bit of the movie that I watched was boring and unoriginal, but I came to that conclusion on my own. The "toxicity" of online critics, is when they tell us not watch a movie like we're suppose to just accept their opinion and not form one of our own. The "toxicity" of online critics is when they organise their mindless fanboy minions in targeted campaigns against movies and even to personal attacks against actors and directors themselves. I don't see how fanning flames of hate equals a movie review, but that's how many online critics make their money. Some online critics even start organising attacks on movie projects way before they are released. While I agree that the movie industry often churns out big budgeted incredibly mind numbing rehashed swill, I don't see how an online movie "critic" has a tenable position to tell his audience not to watch a movie. Bad as that movie may be, that audience would not have a valid opinion if they did not experience that bad movie for themselves.

Snyder is a director, not much of a writer, neither of which he does well, and has never spent time interacting with his audience. He acts like he was failed by the fans. But in actuality, he failed to listen or create something fun, and this is the result. The problems with Rebel Moon for me it felt like every other space opera I've seen, only the execution was done poorly because it didn't try to be unique or understand their characters. Not saying you can't be inspired by elements that came before it. That's why revamps exist. Like how Alex Flynn modernizing Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast, combining the fairytale elements with a suburban or city setting. Or how Mamoru Hosoda took Beauty and the Beast and made Belle into an Internet singer, and the beast was a fan with a terrible home life that needed help. It's what you do with the concept that makes it different. Rebel Moon was boring slow-mo.

But my god getting there took 3 hours because I paused it to go do something else then come back. And like you said you don't care about the characters, you could litterally watch the last hour and wouldn't lose anything. Also I wondered why did they bring not Francis from Deadpool back to life if he's just gonna go nuts and get himself killed again.... like give it up mate.

    1) Rebel Moon Part 1 came out last year, I would wager that Rebel Moon Part 2 was probably mostly already done by that point; so, even if Zack were to listen to criticism about Part 1, there probably wouldn't be too much he could do about it. 2) Correction: it's not that he doesn't have to listen to everything critics say; he doesn't have to listen to ANYTHING critics say. Not a damn thing. Now, to be clear: I'm not a Snyder fan. I didn't hate his contributions to DCEU (Man of Steel, and Batman v. Superman), 300 is pretty good, and I like Watchmen; I haven't and don't intend to watch Justice League Snyder Cut; and haven't watched nor have any plans to watch, Rebel Moon.

Are lens flares and light being used to cover the fact they didn’t have sets? Silhouettes don’t work for me and are all movies set in low light now? I think AI and CGI have gotten worse and are a feeble crutch for SiFi and fantasy movies.
