    Pacers certainly look rather attractive, and the models are sublime (Hornby excepted), but they're frankly obsolete in terms of rush hour services. A single 142 on my local line is apparently sufficient to form the peak service into Manchester on a morning. Commuters will beg to differ. I will be far from sad to see them leave Northern's fleet, but I do hope to see them on heritage lines, especially in Regional Railways colours!

    Great review of what seems like a stunning bit of kit, I'm not a modern image modeller but when these were first released I took note of the detail, shame about the stalling on the slip. Excellent choice of music for the running shots.. took me back to childhood!

    Stunning model, I have the Realtrack class 156 Abellio Scotrail, they have motors in both cars and like the class 43's have sound chip's in both cars, I bought it second hand and it wasn't cheap, there was a couple on extra bits missing so I phoned Charlie at Realtrack and he sent the missing bits up. It is my favourite loco next to my class 68 Scotrail "Daring" still to get a sound chip for that one. John

    I got an older Metro red/silver liveried one off eBay and it arrived today, I payed about £100 and it has some damage (I knew before getting it) but as even the more common liveries now are quite rare i decided it was a good price regardless. I'm very pleased with it and I'm hoping to repair some of the damage (it's purely cosmetic damage and not too bad, just a few missing steps etc).

    @@NewJunction No I totally get it! I know we all like the headline stuff like HSTs and IEPs, but I think it's things like Pacers, DMUs and things like that which make a layout! Also with the issue across the points at slow speed, would adding a little weigh help or is it just due to the lack of axles the pacers have?

  • @NewJunction

    Brilliant! Looks a superb model, bought one of there sprinters just over a year ago now and it was absolutely stunning. The only thing that I can fault it on is the price which still remains very expensive :/ I don't think is acceptable for them to charge over 300 quid for a dmu. Runs superb however and is my favourite dmu I have. Great video can't wait to see more!

  • @georgethomas7814
    @georgethomas78143 жыл бұрын

    You mentioned it was quite small, compare it to another DMU. That annoying fault you mentioned is very reminiscent of a real pacer collision. When testing the 144 (actually a 142) it got stuck on points and it was cut in half by Virgin Train class 87: ......... Concerns were raised about safety after the 1999 Winsford crash,[10] which involved a First North Western Class 142 Pacer running as empty stock was run into by a Virgin Trains Class 87 express after the Pacer unit had fouled the main line at Winsford, Cheshire on the West Coast Main Line.[11] The body of the Pacer was severed from its frame, to which it was attached by wire straps, causing severe internal damage; the unit was written off. Twenty-seven passengers and crew were injured, four seriously. However, all passenger injuries were on the other train, as the Class 142 was running empty at the time.[12] Now I have a really dumb question: If the model is "really small" is it still prototypical? Likewise if the one of the real trains can "foul on the Line"? you are lucky as the model accurately reflects the prototype, thankfully you got it sorted before the Virgin Class 87 arrived. Jokes aside are OO Gauge wheel not very small? Finally totally agree great content, brilliant presentation, you are filling a void in my model train dreams.

    Realtrack produced a great model with this and the 143, it is a difficult mechanism type to get good pick up performance from sadly, but they've done a great job. I think the 156 surpasses it however. I have no need really for either myself mind, generally being a southern modeller (although I am working on a harton inspired layout at present and the southern layout plan has been designed with the ability to become other areas within a certain amount of license). However I'd be very tempted by any in merseyrail livery ( I think some pacers got it, not sure about 156s). This and the 156 I think are serious contenders for best ever multiple unit, though personally best loco is the Sutton locomotive works class 24, of which I have 2 p4, sound and supercap fitted examples. Quality costs sadly.

    I love these Realtrack Pacers (model not real)... I have one in the Arriva Wales livery and managed to buy it brand new from Kernow in 2017. Realtrack are producing the class 142 Pacer in it's original 80's provincial livery which I'm more interested in, just keeping an eye on their website for updates. I know the the real life trains take a lot of criticism and are basically rubbish lol. I had the pleasure of a journey from Sheffield to Barnsley on one many years ago, worst train journey ever!! But the model has so much character and like you say, Realtrack have done a fantastic job on these... Mark.

I got it replaced ok eventually but the low "gearbox covers" under the powered wheels that you eluded to are a total pain over points and AWS ramps. Whilst it is a well detailed model, i expected better running for the price and was left underwhelmed by it.

    @@NewJunction you could always try to get one scratch built. You must know people who can ( I heard you say you're not a scratch builder), maybe they can set you up with another full set .

    The real ones get a bad press, but they are all still in service which is more than can be said about some other locos, we get the 143’s and 142’s on our local line, stunning details, where would you hide the speaker for a sound chip Though?

    Nice looking model. New subscriber here, love your videos. I'm from the US. What is the difference between a Pound and a Quid? You said they were about 110 Pounds when they came out and now cost almost 300 Quid. It would be sweet if the doors could be opened automatically.
