A great review Ben! I have noticed the steepness in the nose and tail on mine. I’ve found that I have to bend my knees a bit more when doing nose and tail stalls on mini ramp.

Low pro is insane with Indy’s. Ordered like 5 in 8.06 after skating it. Just in case the stop making them lol. Love it on Indy titanium’s with 52mm. Less effort to pop on the Indy Ti s

Hey Man, stumbled upon your channel a couple weeks back, very insightful. I'm riding a similar set up to Andrew Reynolds, 139 indies on a 8.5 almost board. The board had very steep tail and nose, I recommend reviewing one and comapring it to said board above "real" In my random unworthy opinion i find having 139's on a 8.5 board kind of cool in a way, kick flips feel like a spitroast, if you know what i mean? They way it spins, giving the illusion its done on a smaller board. Something to ponder on

That board is beautiful, not so much the graphic but the overall shape of it

I think real measurements are 0.0625 plus for every size so: 8.0625 (8.06), 8.1875 (8.18), 8.3125 (8.25), 8.4375 (8.38)...so on and so forth. Anyway great review as always, much love from Italy ❤️ keep killing it Ben!

No, I bought a 8.06 x 31.8 last week. I measured it and it’s exactly 8 inch wide and 31.75 long. Maybe on other boards from Real it’s different. It’s my first Real Deck. I would recommend them, great quality.

That back heel was a amazing. 👌🏻 also, idk why but all DLx boards are great 👍🏻 real and antihero krooked

I've had 4 of these decks in the past few months. They are absolutely amazingly perfect for my atv style of skating, I'm 37 now and try to get a little bit of every terrain in when I get out to ride. These decks are very steep w lots of concave, which is great for me. I just set up a Powell Flight deck a few days ago and it feels so awkward and weird to me:-/ I've tried to make the best of it but just can't stand the shape or length of it ! Flight boards are really nice but spendy for sure, but don't work for me. Switching back to a Lo-Pro today:-) Think I may try that Chima shape u showed in this video... Hey Ben, I’m a new sub and I have to thank you on the fact of your videos being so helpful and inspirational. I stopped skating about 6 years ago but I’ve always followed it, however now I am ready to get back on again. I have a quick Q for you, I’m getting a 8.25 board and was set on getting Thunder 148’s. But I’ve been seeing a lot of people that ride 8.25 are going with Thunder 149’s, unfortunately I do not have the option of buying both sizes and trying them out so it’s an all or nothing type deal. Any suggestions? Again thank you for all the videos keep’em rolling! 🤘🏼

If you might want to go up in deck size get 149. If you might want to go down in deck size get 148. 8.25 is the smallest deck you can reasonably ride on 149.

A tip that may help when skating something with a lot of concave like that and high nose/tail is to push back/forward when doing ollie/nollie with your tricks. So if you were to pop it's not really straight down but more behind/infront of you if you ollie/nollie. I think this is what you are doing when you lean back for your tre-flips. You can keep the same stance as normal just push it in front/behind more. It's like you're ollieing at an angle. Think of "boning" out a kickflip/etc.

What's good man, I'm only 24 but I love the channel your filling in a huge informational gap in in skateboarding. That being said the all this wheelbase stuff has tripped me out since being introduced to the concept. You often mention your wheelbase preference in relation to your height. Do you mind sharing what your hieght is??? Weight too would be nice.

I just got one of those REAL recycled boards a couple months ago. Was really really good at first, but it just cracked through the top of the deck and I'm just shy of 150lbs and don't skate stairs or gaps so that's kinda disappointing.

Had one of these for years and it’s razor tailed heavily, still has ridiculous pop but hard to control on a ramp.

I've been really wanting to get an old school FLIP wave construction, but I guess they discontinued them as I cant find that shit ant where . Wave construction with some g3 grinskings , favorite street setup I've ever had!

I started skateboarding less than a year, and I am 34. omg, please stop saying you are too old :D I keep telling myself that I can improve, and learn tricks, but every time you says you are old it makes me feel bad :D

I really wish they would make these again . Crazy pop even when the tail is getting pretty worn down.

Just be sure you like steep decks with tons of concave. It really was a lot to handle on the indys.

Both those decks are on opposite ends of the spectrum. The flight deck feels soft when it is brand new but you can get used to it. Flight decks are not my preference. Low Pro decks on the other hand are insanely steep. To steep for a lot of peoples taste including mine. Only go for the low pro if you like it as steep as they come. I haven't tried the low pro mellow yet but I bet they are probably a better choice for most peoples taste.

Also whats your opinion on really wide boards with short wheelbases? Never had one but I'm considering this Chocolate "big boy" deck (8.75/ 14 in wheelbase) or this Tired deck thats about the same. In promo vids, Chico Bernes very much accredits this boards performance to its short wheelbase. I like wide body's so I'm very curious, but I'm tall but and wondering if that would conflict with my legs lol. I'm 6ft and about 215, prefer 8.5s that are usually 32 in length not sure of there wb's.

You can get used to the shorter wheelbase. You will probably notice it at first. The main difference for me is usually the weaker pop. That is what I have the hardest time with. As long as I ride them with Thunders I can usually tolerate it.

I love steep kicks

you had a video about steep kicks and said "tell me your opinion about em in the below" and i said that they're really good with low trucks because it evens out the height of the steep kicks so you dont get ghost pop and its really poppy. i use the same trucks too

I ghost pop ollies over manholes by accident and it always feels weird. I'm skating the 8.25 Hockey Andrew Allen pro model by ps stix with thunder team 148s and 52mm formula four lockins.

You've been looking for a good outro. Maybe you can just sign off with a 💨 from now on. 😂 I'd be interested to see how you feel about bamboo skateboards. They had way too much concave and steepness for a noob like me. I was gonna call an exorcist to deal with all the paranormal pops.

Seems like you skated it hell of a lot better with thunders. False advertising. Lol.. . .. decided to type this before the kickflip nose manny and following tricks, but still. Flat ground is key essential. Interesting how you did 8.25 on 149 thunder and didn't go straight to indy. LOL. Awesome video. (That wasn't sarcasm) ... was thinking about using a wknd 8.25 and 169s. .. I've been using shoe sizes a size too big for a while kind of, because it gives me a broader flick. I used to be able to treflip like Tony Hawk or Lance mountain or some skate god with janoskis true to size, a real 8.38 mellow, thunder 149s (i forget follow axle or not, don't think it really matters all too much???), and regular bearings in spitfire 53mm classic shapes. Not trying to brag, just mentioning switching up setups can be fun. I'm thinking I might be able to recreate that type of leverage using a slightly skinnier board with wider trucks and longer shoes, given they are stiff enough. However, using loose trucks played into the give of my treflips back then too, because it was more playful, a perfect fit for true to size shoes. Can't kickflip good with that though. No freedom to pop as high as you want, for me. I ride a 8.5 now with 169s and classic 53mm spitfires and size 12 shoes and ceramic bearings, thinking about getting a separate 8.25 setup for filming on cause it looks better like the bronze guys have and repp, but with the 169s. Otherwise I'd probably get a 8.38 and 149 setup for fun and alternation/recreation. I used to go from 8.38 and 8.25 and 8.5 and back around like it was my job (even had a 8.62 given to me and used canvas shoes and the rigid flick on the contrast of that and the rubber to fling that thing around. ) just wondering if I should look into a wknd for its all terrain shape or think about a low pro if I'm going to be using a way bigger truck. Probably all depends on if I want to skate a bulky shoe or not

P.s. I've experimented with 9s and size 11s toe cap and not and 8.75 longs with 11s and even 10.5s and 8.75 (more pop)sicle type (what I call shorter decks) with size 11 shoes or whatever... all on 169. Size doesn't matter to me cause I could skate down to 8.125 or 8.1 and could have fu but always rode 149s. I realized they didn't have enough weight to provide me enough leverage to kickflip right and I was cutting myself short on my skate experience, more like I was just riding a car that I could 3 shuv and eventually discovered a board I can put my soul into and use effort to skate well with instead of *just finesse

So did you prefer the deck with the Thunders over the Indys?

A have a real low pro deck after a week I decided it was not for me had trouble with my flat ground tricks I really had to try to pop it

Ben i have a question for you- why aren't recesses where wheel bite occurs more common? If it's a question of board strength, surely for a skater like you, who avoids large impacts, this would't be an issue anyway? you make a point at 5:23 about the benefit of the tiny amount of room the concave of the board gives you against wheel bite, so why not get a board with carved recesses and never have to think about wheel bite again??

I'm not sure exactly why we don't do that on street decks. It's probably a strength and cost thing.

They were pretty decent for a cheaper bearing. I didn't ride them too long though but they are still okay after a few weeks.

You need to look for shorter wheelbases. 14.25 and under. This one was almost 14.5. Pretty hefty.

Also, Indy's, Ace's and Venture Highs have an easier pop if the deck has mellower kicks. The downside is it's harder to get high pop.

I’m using venture hi and they don’t work well with real boards. Manuals, Nose manuals, & ollies just seem off even after a month or more of skating the board... you may be right a lower truck would be better.

I'm on STF's right now and I agree. Bones are good. A little bit stickier and harder but still a high performance wheel. My only complaint is that 103a is way too hard for rougher ground. Spitfires have a little more give.

Give that board a shorter wheelbase and it'd be just my fit. ...I think...I haven't tried a low-pro yet. Seems interesting though. Gotta admit, I really like the white graphic over the pink wood-grain. I'm not a huge fan of the color pink, but that's probably the coolest wood grain ever, imo.

Thankfully back pain hasn't been a huge issue. I get neck and shoulder pain from my work as a drywall finisher though.

How about avenues trucks? I have a pair on an 8.25 flight deck. They really help the knees and legs but tricks can be tricky haha... Can you help a 38 year old poser please.

Ben Degros I deff get that for sure. Maybe that's why I want seem to get more consistent. But after using them it's hard to go back to my thunders due to the impact differences but i think I'm gonna switch back to my thunders. Thank you for the reply brother! 1 of my local skate shops mostly carries real. They have girl/chocolate but nothing my size. I ride mellow concave so I asked him to get baker which is all I ride. He said no and if I like mellow get low pro. Like wtf dude. That’s still way too much concave. Baker has steep concave molds that I can ride fine because they really aren’t that steep. Just steep for baker. But seriously I’m 33 and I’ve been skating for 20 years. I know what I want and have the money to buy it. Bad business in my eyes. I stopped going there and went somewhere that carries my brand and size.

I almost always ride REAL Low Pros with Indys. They work your legs, but the more you ride the stronger you get. ​

I think I would like it better on an 8" with light indys and a forged baseplate. 8.25 with 149 standards was a bit of a bear.

Understood. I'm actually riding the same REAL Low Pro (mine is an 8.4") board shown in this video with the Indy 149 forged titanium trucks right now (hollow kingpin). The trucks are not cheap, but well worth it. I'm switching up to SOVRN 8.38" deck in the near future. I don't know if you've ridden any SOVRN decks, but they're ridiculously light.

I will get on it. I have a pretty good feel for them now. They don't have very good grip IMO so I switched back to the matchcourts as my deck got older.
