Typically in downhill you put squares of very grippy tape where your individual feet will go. Some people use a variety of different grips depending on how they ride

Downhill Skater here: Hardcore is alright but LokTon or Gangster grip tape is the move for DH (lokton is my fav). SUPER SHARP. Ideally you get a really sharp knife and dont score it, cut through the bottom with the knife facing up at an angle. We like our rails sharp af. Accompanied with a torque block and a footstop, maybe a few machine screws coming through the bottom, ultimate grip set up.

We had this 25 grit per inch grip tape back in the 70s. The biggest issue was with your front foot after pushing, rotating your front foot would eat up the one sole. I would go to a big box store and load two right shoes into the box. Mismatched Chucks became my fashion contribution in high school.

That's the Walmart grip they used back in the day when they sold them flat boards that felt like reversed concaves on your feet.

should really try this stuff called lokton grip its even more grippy will tear fingers up picking it up. Also its only 3 sheet because most downhill longboards now a days are quite short and narrow. honestly depends on the discipline though.

Yeah, with downhill grip, it's specially for foot placement. Your feet aren't really supposed to move much from the sweet spots where you manipulate the board to turn. Often downhill racing set-ups incorporate wedges (at the tail) and toe stops (nose) as well for additional stability. Why not just use bindings? 1. Well, you're not crashing on snow. 2. Downhill tuck and foot placement isn't the same as snowboard racing.
