    I wasn't able to see if anyone said this but Alex explained that having the marriage at the house was part of the game. If they didn't they would die anyways and listed off random relations that died by eloping or having the wedding in other places, which does tie in with his true nature but wasn't sure if people caught that.

  • @lenisemicolon

    But getting married is not required for a long term relationship. If you have to risk death to get married, there's absolutely no reason to.

    @@lenisemicolon he said in the servents tunnel "if I told you, you would have left me, and if I didn't marry you, you would have left me." I'm not going to defend his character, cause at the end of the day, he decides to turn on her (and I mean, come on, she points out in her response that he's blaming her for all this. That's just cold). But I can sympathize with him not wanting to lose the one good person in his life that's not part of his family. He's a very complex character.

  • @lenisemicolon

    Bondfall 007 Eh, he assumed she would have left if he was honest with her, but it’s really not a reflection of him. It’s just the family he was born into and he had already demonstrated he wasn’t on board with their ideology by walking away from them. She also didn’t seem like the type of character who would be overly concerned with getting married from what I can remember. They could have gotten past it, and if not then he would have just had to accept her choice. He didn’t seem so complex to me, he just seemed like a bad guy who was willing to risk someone else’s life so he could get what he wanted. Even if she hadn’t drawn the hide and seek card he would have been an irredeemable character for putting her in that position without her knowledge. He didn’t even have to betray her to be a low key villain. This is making me want to watch the movie again though 😂

    Andie MacDowell's accent always sounds like that - stronger on some words and phrases than others. It's typical of someone who was raised in one part of the world but spent their adulthood in one with a different dominant accent (SC to CA, in her case). I've noticed it with James too - his accent comes in real strong on some specific words, especially ones that I pronounce with a 'ray' sound but he doesn't (for instance, pronouncing 'trail' as 'trall' rather than 'trayl').

    I finally got around to watching it and despite listening to the podcast before and basically knowing everything before, I really enjoyed it! I didn't think this would be my kind of movie but I think the characters were what really sold me. Grace as kind of the straight man, pulling the hide and seek card and being like "seriously" while most of the family takes it so seriously, her trusting her fiance in the beginning but loosing that trust after going through all this shit, the sister in law being more invested than the actual siblings, the mom I think legitimately liking Grace but ultimately putting her family first... It never got boring and it was pretty funny that the family was very nonchalant about the whole thing, especially all gathering around the phone to call the butler in the car, up until they actually have her and try to do the ritual on her.

  • @KillerEggFromOuterSpace
    @KillerEggFromOuterSpace5 жыл бұрын

    Ready or Not was such a fun movie and I totally would watch again. It gave me Edgar Wright Vibes with its camera work on humor (especially near the end). I also love that the family sucks at being killers because of course they would be. They only have to do it when that card is picked and it had been almost 30 years since the last time they had to do it. They're not trained hunters/murderers, they're "normal" rich people who just go about their lives after each wedding. To clear up two things you guys mentioned, I had a couple theories: 1) I always had the impression that Grace doesn't WANT to kill anyone. She's a normal person who just wants to live, that's it. She accidentally kills a maid and chokes out the buttler, but she didn't have murder as the intent. Once she actually killed the Butler in the car crash that's what puts her over the edge to later kill the mother. Maybe that's me looking too far in, that's just how I interpreted it. 2) Alex does hate his family, but he would definitely go back to the house thanks to passing lines by Auntie Helene and Grace. Apparently Alex is the only one to actually see Le Bail in the chair meaning he has some belief in the hellish curse. With the odds of getting Hide & Seek so slim, he would take the chance of going through the ritual hoping for Old Maid or something so he can just leave with his new wife, never to be seen again. Another reason he would go is Grace admitting her time in Foster Care where all she wanted was a family. So odds are GRACE wanted Alex's family at the wedding in turn causing them to have the ceremony at the mansion. Again this just a personal interpretation but I could be so wrong.

    I love that you guys mentioned the symbolism of the whole bride character and the iconic “purity.” One thing that I noticed, and I’m not sure if this was intentional, is that by the end of the movie, most of her dress is completely blackened by the night’s endeavours; a total inversion of what she represented beforehand.

    Melanie Scrofano is, in fact, the lady in Saw VI who lies about being pregnant (and it doesn't work) on the carousel. She was also Wynonna in Wynonna Earp (her best role do not @ me) and Mrs. McMurphy in Letterkenny. A lot of her roles are in obscure Canadian TV shows.

    Alex came back to have the marriage at the house because they had said later in the movie that certain family members had died because they refused to play the game or eloped I believe. So he came back because he knew he would die too if they didn’t which plays off of the whole selfish trait you guys talk about.

    The fact that Alex would even believe something like that, it kind of shows that he isn’t as estranged from the family as we are led to believe.

    You must be a newbie to the DeadMeat Podcast. It's Lucy!!! They had a serious technical difficulty with one of their podcasts with audio but no visual, so they were showing Lucy being herself during the podcast. She's an amazingly well behaved for a cat and doesn't jump up into Chelsea's lap unexpectedly, like my cats. She's smart and stealthy, like a tiger on a hunt, and very repectful not to be a nuisance. Surprised she hasn't made an appearence on the DeadMeat Kill Counts yet.

    I think that was a smart thing that they did with the marketing. As James mentioned, the trailer gave away a lot of legitimately cool moments within the movie. So when you see the poster with Grace with the shotgun your immediate thought is that she's going to be mowing people down in it. But then it just turns out to be a prop. So I thought it was cool that the moment that they teased with that poster turned out to not be something that gave away how he movie would progress.

    I love listening to you guys talk about movies with layers. I can usually scratch off the surface but you guys really dig in and help me really understand how much deeper things can be. I wanted to share my opinion on the ending. I don’t know if I like that the family was right about dying if they didn’t kill the Grace, because I liked the idea of this family going bat shit crazy over something that didn’t actually matter. I think it would have added to what this movie is trying to say, does the wealth and privilege really matter? But, it was pretty awesome just watching them all blow up. Seems reason enough to put it in there. And yeah if they didn’t blow up, where would the movie go from there? Like you guys said, she’s still be trapped in a house of people who want her dead to save their asses.
