Great reading vlog thank you !!!!! There was a lot I wanted to share with you throughout the video I don't know if I'll remember everything now that I'm done watching it ! Ok quickest thing first : Down among the sticks and bones is my favourite book in the wayward children series so far (I have read 4 of them). Thank you for sharing the footage of the march 8th protest and the footage of your trip to Guyana, that was very interesting and everything you showed looked beautiful. I read Jane Eyre for the first time last october and like. I'm fully comprehending the book through a modern lense too but at the same time I'm not convinced that I'm not supposed to. Basically when I finished it my thoughts were : I am SO glad I read it at 28 years old and not 18, cause had I been the same age as Jane Eyre reading that book I too would have been fooled by Mr Rochester cause like. Yeah a man pulling schemes like making me believe he was gonna marry someone else just to get me to react, at 18 year old I would have been addicted I would fully go "oh he must really have it BAD for me if he's going to thoses lenghts to get me". THANK GOD I read it at 28 year old when I can see him for the manipulative bastard he is. Also yeah.... the wife in the addic.... Like I don't know it's not having such a "modern lense" to read this book as a story about a deeply upsetting relationship. I don't know I haven't read about Brontë's intentions with this book but to me it depicts terribly well the " Oh. I was such a fool when I was young and believed the version of love older manipulative men wanted me to believe was true love." realisation that you hit when you grow up a bit. Like....... relatable........ universal girl experience...... Idk maybe I'm WAY off and it's just me hahahaha In January I read Escaping Mr Rochester by L L McKinney which is a retelling that gives a voice to the first wife Bertha Mason and I really enjoyed that retelling. It's a bit more on the YA side though but that version is also interesting !

Thanks so much for this comment! I agree, think it's totally okay to judge a classic from a modern lens. I also think it's better that I'm reading this book now at 27 than 10 years ago

Ok, there’s a lot I want to comment on, and I may forget some of it. I’m watching from Long Beach, California. I loved all the video-reading on the beach *chef’s kiss*, the turtles 🥰, 🇬🇾 very interesting. Lastly, I totally get what you’re saying about wanting a certain level for your channel, and I just want to say-TWO HUNDRED PEOPLE watched you talk about books!! Know what I’m sayin? Who among us can say 200 people watched us do anything? You’re great, ty for making content.❤. I can’t believe it’s been 9yrs-congrats 🎊 🎉!

Thank you for continuing to share your reading and your outings with us, here and on Instagram! The islands and Guyana look so beautiful, and the beach footage has me missing the ocean badly (couldn't make any day trips out last summer, should be able to this year). I love the book commentary! I don't think it's bad to critique all the questionable things in the classics just because those things were (wrongfully) normalized when they were written. We can appreciate that the heroine has some agency, but can also point out she's making bad decisions 😹

Love the vlog! Thank you for the video. Jane Eyre is one of my favorite books to over think about. As I get older I see the women in the novel in new ways and have more understanding of how they navigate the world they’re in. Rochester is wholesale trash. He has both the money, power, and life experience to know and do better. The question of are we even supposed to like him is something I never thought about. The ending had me heated! Jane went on that whole journey and took the absolute wrong message away. I really want to check out The Wide Sargasso Sea. “Bertha” deserves so much better. Justice for Bertha!. If you have the time and mental bandwidth I would love to hear you thoughts on the end of Jane Eyre as well as The Wide Sargasso Sea.

I recently reread Jane Eyre, though it felt like reading it for the first time since I remember nothing about it from high school lol. I am so with you, I don't understand the appeal of Rochester at allll, and Jane could deff benefit from therapy lol. I listened to the podcast Hot and Bothered while I was reading which gave a lot of context about why it's considered a feminist novel and a lot of the positives about it, which was interesting and would recommend, but I just can't get on board, this book is not for me lol.

I haven't read Jane Eyre, but I wonder if Mr. Rochester was meant to be unlikable as a feminist stance that not all men are as good as we think they are? I think I might have to pick up this book. Wierdly enough you not finishing the book in the vlog has made me more curious about the story.

the men are all the worst in Jane Eyre. I always just am rooting for Jane/independence when it comes to the pairings. The only thing that saves it for me every time is the fact that Jane continues to just call him ugly even though they are "soulmates" lol. I am just like go ahead girl, drag him, call him ugly!
