Even if you only read zero books. I still look forward to every video. Hope you thesis is going well.
Please do a Once Upon a Time video! That show is so ridiculous and great!
It's so nice to see you back posting for a bit! ❤ I hope all is great on all ends of your life. Haters gonna keep on hating. Keep doing you and the right people will find you. 💯
Best descritopn of the plot: a book about a bad person, trying to do a bad thing and see how long she can get away with it. :D I listened to the audiobook and found it unputdownable, really fast paced dragging you in. I think the book works well for the fun reading experience, but not sure if it achieves anything people say it set out to do.

Exactly that!
oh my, so sorry to hear about the backlash you got from that video! hundreds of internet strangers calling you slurs and other nasty things is really frightening. also sad to hear that Trinidad is facing the same wave of conservatism we're having here in Brazil and other parts of the world. hope you feel safer soon! on a more positive note, Alice in Wonderland was one of my favorite childhood books, haha. i really enjoyed how whimsical it was, and after reading about its meanings i liked it even more. i interpret Alice getting lost in that world, and all the of the characters mistreating her, as a child growing into adulthood, struggling to find their place there and comprehend all those new rules and expectations. most characters are a dig at someone the author knew, a reference to life at that time and/or political commentary. i personally think it's really cool, hehe. and about yellowface, have you watched withcindy's review? she goes deep into the commentary the book tries to make, the personal background of the author, the choices made and how the book fails to make any meaningful insights in regards to publishing, meritocracy, race, etc. (in her opinion, i haven't read it lmao). i think it would be great if you watched it!

Thank you for this comment. I'm hopeful that things will get better. Sometimes we have to remind ourself it already has. I definitely need to get back to Alice one day! I'm sure I'll appreciate it more with a deeper lens. And yes, I'll have to check out Cindy's review!
i'm so sorry you had to deal with that! thank you for sharing your thoughts on these books and highlighting childrens' lit!
fwiw I'd definitely agree that Through the Looking-Glass is better than Alice in Wonderland -- I read Alice once and thought it was okay, whereas I loved Through the Looking-Glass as a kid and probably read it a dozen times
I'd watch your "what went wrong in Once Upon a Time" video essay.
excellent point that's not how phobias work indded...annihilation is the goal...i loved most of piranesi but it all fell apart for me with the ending..so to speak!
hahaha "I kinda cried!" That edition of Alice in Wonderland is SO CUTE OMG -- I also haven't ever read it and I'm not sure if I'd like it... I'm skeptical at best. lol Omg that SUCKS to hear about your tiktok and people being the fucking worst -- sorry you had to deal with any of that! Homophobia and transphobia is truly fucking wild -- literally queer people just EXISTING is infuriating to these people. I mean you know this, I'm not telling you new information lol -- just commiserating because every time I see it happening yet again, my soul hurts.

i loved once upon a time in wonderland, never watched the original tho
I was in the library one day and some woman came in asking about Drag Queens reading to their kids and that she will come back and protest with the parents countsel she was in. Saying that it'll wrap kids minds and it'll turn them into sex manics and to stop teaching our kids queerness. As a Bi woman who's not a girly girl, it upset me a bit. For most people that are accepting, theirs always the few that are not. And I agree with you that writing books like that, isn't about sex. Having a drag queen read kids stories isn't about sex either.
I also didn’t like Alice in Wonderland. It’s just a book of craziness about a girl having a terrible time? Like it’s supposed to reflect the whimsy of childhood, but I didn’t get any whimsy. Just a land full of crazy assholes 🤷♀️
i am a rainbow looks like a beautiful book, i'll have to get for my god children (my very conservative cousins won't like it but 😈)
I do not like Alice in Wonderland either!
I still need to read Yellowface 🥹 I just wanna know what the hype is all about
